🇱🇰 The Largest cave temple complex in Dambulla, Sri Lanka

#wheretogo Inscribed in 1991 as one of the UNESCO world heritage sites in Sri Lanka, Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in the island country. The temple complex was built into five caves under overhanging rock and has been a sacred pilgrimage site since 22 centuries ago. The Buddhist mural paintings and statues in the caves are sights to behold. The cave temple is located up on a hill 20 km from Sigiriya. The entrance ticket costs 2000 rupees per person and can only be bought at the ticket counter at the foot of the hill. From there we had to climb many flights of stairs to reach the entrance of the temple. The view of the the surrounding area on the way up was spectacular. Before entering the temple we had to remove our shoes so wearing socks is recommended. Remember to wear modest clothing that covers your knee and shoulder while visiting sacred sites. There are lots of street sellers outside the temple selling sarong. It is also possible to rent a sarong to cover your knees before entering the temple.
