In the past 3 years, I have been going to Daegu from Seoul often. Thanks to this, I have come to know that Daegu is a charming city with many places to visit, many foods, and many other things to eat. 🚆 KTX Train Trip It takes less than 2 hours from Seoul to Dongdaegu Station by KTX. Isn't it enough for a day trip? I ride from Yeongdeungpo Station more often than Seoul Station, and the price difference is not that big, so I often use the special class. The advantages of the special class are that it is a single seat and has a wide space between them, and they provide free water and nuts. However, a comfortable trip depends on the luck of meeting good passengers! 💜 Daegu Modernization Trip I arrived in Gyeongsang-do in 2 hours. I really love KTX. Today's Daegu trip topic is the modernization history trip! I'll go to Banwoldang Station or Jungangno Station. There are many places to take the bus, such as Dongdaegu Station or Dongdaegu Station Complex Transfer Center. You can also take the subway, so go to the place that fits your schedule. It's hidden, but everyone knows it's a good restaurant and finds it easily. This is Hidden House, the Italian restaurant where I'll have lunch today. It's small and cozy with only a few tables, but it's clean and warm. The Hidden House pizza caught my eye on the popular menu, but it was too much for two people, so I gave up and ordered two pastas. The pancetta cream pasta is a spicy cream pasta with Italian bacon. I can't eat spicy food well, but it's a moderately spicy flavor that I can enjoy. I like basil pesto, so Hidden House Basil Pasta is the best! It's a collection of all my favorite ingredients, including shrimp and arugula, so it's definitely delicious. 💜 Lee Sang-hwa's House ✅️ Daegu Jung-gu Gyesan-dong 2-ga ✅️ Operating hours: 09:00-18:00 (17:30 in winter) Daegu has well-organized alleys. Each alley organizes Daegu's travel spots at a glance, and there's a lot to see with information about historical figures, poems, and pictures drawn on the walls. If you walk through the alleys of Daegu, you can see well-preserved old houses. I didn't know about it, but I happened to find Lee Sang-hwa's House. Although I wasn't an invited guest, I went in because it was a place where you could come and go freely. The front yard of Lee Sang-hwa's House, where a tree full of unripe yellow pomegranates greets you, has a gentle atmosphere. You can also see the stone tablet of poet Lee Sang-hwa's representative poem, 'Does Spring Come to the Stolen Field?' On a summer day like today, it would be nice to open the door and rest under the shade of the trees, and it feels like a warm house, but it makes me bitter when I think of the dark times I learned about in textbooks. 🩷 Seo Sang-don's House ✅️ Daegu Jung-gu Gyesan-dong 2-ga 83-1 ✅️ Operating hours: 09:00-18:00 (17:30 in winter) There is also Seo Sang-don's House near Lee Sang-hwa's House. Seo Sang-don, who was active as a nationalist activist during the reign of King Gojong, proposed the launch of the National Debt Redemption Movement in 1907. Seo Sang-don's House and Lee Sang-hwa's House seem similar, but their structures and sizes are slightly different. The front yard of Seo Sang-don's House was wide open, so it was wider and neater, and I could see the old kitchen, so it felt like watching a drama set. It felt like an uninvited house(?), but I think this is the joy of traveling. 💜 Gyesan Cathedral ✅️ Daegu Jung-gu Gyesan-dong 2-ga 71-1 A cathedral might seem a bit out of place on a travel itinerary, but I like visiting cathedrals and temples when traveling, regardless of religion. Many people visit temples registered as World Cultural Heritage sites in Korea, but with the exception of a few famous ones like Myeongdong Cathedral and Jeondong Cathedral, cathedrals are not often visited as tourist attractions. Most of the architectural styles of cathedrals in Korea are a mix of Gothic and Korean architectural styles, showing grandeur without being flashy, so they are beautiful to look at. The reason why people visit cathedrals more than anything is because they are overwhelmed by the calm and pious atmosphere, and even if you don't go to confession to a priest, just praying in front of them makes you feel like your burden has been lifted and you feel at ease. Gyesan Cathedral was recently mentioned as a filming location for the popular drama, "Cheated by a Priest," so I think it will become even more famous. Don't forget to watch quietly from outside during mass! 🩷 March 1st Movement Stairs ✅️ 881-3 Dongsan-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu A week after the March 1st Movement in Seoul on March 8, 1919, the March 1st Movement also took place in Daegu. This staircase, consisting of about 90 steps, is a meaningful place with history from that time. You can also see old photos of Daegu on the wall covered with ivy, so you can learn more about Daegu in the present and past. 💜 Cheongna Hill ✅️ 424 Dongsan-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu When you climb the March 1st Movement Stairs, you will come across Cheongna Hill, which is called the Montmartre of Daegu. It is where missionaries lived when Christianity spread in the early 20th century. There are also Western houses here, and the Grace Garden where missionaries and their families sleep. 🩷 Seomun Night Market ✅️ Daegu Jung-gu Dalseong-ro 50 Seomun Market Station ✅️ Business hours: 19:00-22:30 / Closed every Tuesday Daegu Seomun Market opens a night market at 7 PM. Since there are always a lot of cars, you can avoid the parking war by walking. The market is full of energy. There are a variety of delicious-looking foods, and the smell of delicious food fills the market, so my stomach reacts. However, the amount we can eat is limited, so I look around from the beginning to the end to see what kind of food there is, and then head to the store I have been eyeing. It's a good idea to reserve a table in advance. The closer you are, the more people there are, and the further you go, the more tables there are! I had to go to the last table, but thanks to that, I was able to eat quietly. Even if you're at Seomun Market, try Daegu Makchang. It's delicious without any gamey smell. I ate Pad Thai, chicken skewers, and even beef bulgogi with beer I bought from a nearby convenience store. After eating, throw away your trash in the trash can provided in front and clean up after yourself. 💜 Daegu Starbucks Jongno Gotaek Branch ✅️ Daegu Jung-gu Jongno 2-ga 58 ✅️ Business hours: 08:00-22:00 The end of a Daegu trip is coffee. Take the subway from Cheongna Hill Station to Banwoldang Station. You've arrived at Starbucks Jongno Gotaek Branch, which is only available in Daegu. The night at Daegu Starbucks Jongno Gotaek Branch, where the soft lights of a quiet hanok are shining, is even prettier. Sit in the outdoor seating with a nice atmosphere and go back inside when your drink comes out. There is a special menu that is only available at Daegu Jongno Gotaek Branch, so it's not bad to try it once. After wrapping up a full Daegu trip, on the way to Dongdaegu Station to catch the KTX, 1 second ago, 10 minutes ago, 1 hour ago. The time that passed quickly seems like a dream.
