Spring is in full force at Sissinghurst Castle Gardens!

#springwander Sissinghurst Castle Garden, located in Kent, England, is a world-renowned garden celebrated for its unique design and rich history. Created in the 1930s by writer Vita Sackville-West and her husband, diplomat Harold Nicolson, the garden is a testament to their combined vision and passion for horticulture. The garden is structured as a series of distinct “rooms,” each with its own theme and planting scheme. Among the most celebrated is the White Garden, characterized by its monochromatic palette of white blooms and silvery foliage. Other notable areas include the Rose Garden, the Cottage Garden, and the Nuttery, a shaded grove of Kentish cobnuts. Visitors can also explore the estate’s 460 acres of Wealden countryside, which offer scenic walks through woodland and farmland. The estate is home to diverse wildlife and provides a tranquil setting for leisurely strolls. For those interested in the site’s history, the remaining buildings of Sissinghurst Castle, including the Tower and the Library, offer insight into the lives of its former inhabitants. The Tower, in particular, was Vita Sackville-West’s writing retreat and provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The on-site Granary Restaurant serves meals and treats made with produce from the garden’s own vegetable plots, ensuring a fresh and seasonal menu. Additionally, the gift shop offers a range of garden-inspired items, and the plant shop allows visitors to take home a piece of Sissinghurst by purchasing plants propagated from the garden. Sissinghurst Castle Garden is managed by the National Trust, and members enjoy free entry. Non-member admission prices are as follows: • Adult: £14.00 • Child: £7.00 • Family: £35.00 Please note that prices are subject to change; it’s advisable to check the National Trust’s official website for the most current information. Whether you’re a gardening enthusiast, history buff, or simply seeking a picturesque day out, Sissinghurst Castle Garden offers a rich and inspiring experience.
