Cologne Cathedral (Kolner Dom)

Cologne Cathedral (Kolner Dom) has been under construction since 1248, but faced several interruptions, taking over six centuries to complete. It was finally finished in 1880, marked by a cornerstone laying ceremony that documented the construction process. The Cologne Cathedral is a Roman Catholic religious site and was the largest cathedral and the tallest building in the world for four years (1880-1884). During World War II, Cologne was bombed 14 times. Although the cathedral sustained some damage, it did not collapse, which some believe was a miracle. Others think it was spared because it served as a crucial landmark for pilots. Due to the damage, repairs were carried out from 1945 to 1948.
