Christchurch Botanic Gardens

The Christchurch Botanic Gardens are located in the heart of Christchurch, established in 1863, covering an area of 21 hectares. The first plant to be cultivated here was an English oak, and the gardens are home to a range of local and internationally sourced plants. The Christchurch Botanic Gardens are one of the best botanical gardens in New Zealand, divided into themed gardens according to the type and use of the plants, such as the Herb Garden, Rose Garden, Fernery, Water Garden, Rock Garden, and Heather Garden. The Herb Garden primarily contains plants used for cooking and medicinal purposes, the Rose Garden features over 250 different varieties and colors of roses, the Rock Garden has plants that bloom all year round, and the Water Garden is planted with lilies and irises. Each themed garden has its own unique attractions, drawing visitors from all around.
