The Dongfanghong Reservoir was built in 1974 and is a single-arch dam made of mortar-laid stone. The dam is 122 meters long, 24.6 meters high, with a catchment area of ​​270 square kilometers and a total storage capacity of 8.4 million cubic meters. It is mainly used for agricultural irrigation, and also has functions such as flood control, water supply, and power generation. In 2009, the dangerous reservoir reinforcement and remediation project was completed. The flood control reservoir capacity has been restored to 5.44 million cubic meters, the irrigation area has been increased by 1,280 acres, the annual water supply capacity has been increased by 3 million cubic meters, and the travel difficulties of more than 2,000 people have been solved. It has improved flood control and water supply capabilities, ensuring flood control safety for more than 10,000 people and 3,000 acres of farmland in towns, villages, factories and mines downstream of the reservoir, and has played an important role in the industrial and agricultural development and urban water supply of Yubei District. During the flood season every year, a large amount of water gushes out carrying brown and yellow mud. When you come here, you can see the spectacular mud waterfall. Dongfanghong Reservoir is also very popular among fishermen in Yubei. Due to the abundant oxygen brought by the dam water flow, the fish in the stream are particularly active and there are many species - crucian carp, qingbo, grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp, bream... On one side of the bridgehead of Dongfanghong Reservoir is the office building of the reservoir management office, which also looks like an old house with history and memories. Walking up the stone steps next to the office building, there is an engineering building next to it, and a ping-pong table is built outside the dam. After passing through an alley, you will arrive at the back of the reservoir management office building, where there is a parking lot and basketball court. The whole environment looks quite unique. If you didn’t know in advance that this was an office place, you might mistakenly think it was a small home garden. After visiting the office building of the reservoir management office, we returned to the bridgehead of the Dongfanghong Reservoir. Looking towards a stone mountain in the distance, we could see a cliff cave. It is said that it was dug by a large landlord named Dong Erbang. Inside is a stone chamber of about 20 square meters. It is somewhat dangerous to climb up, and there are no ancient relics left inside, so it is not recommended to go there. Self-driving navigation to the "Dongfanghong Reservoir" in Yubei District. It is not recommended to make a special trip to check in this place, except for fishermen. It is suggested to connect the four places of Douwanzhai, Tiebizhai, Shengbaozhai and Dongfanghong Reservoir to make a light hiking route.
