As I walked the dark, stone corridors and climbed the narrow spiral staircases, I could almost hear the clanking of armor and the distant sounds of a guarded gate. But what truly elevated my experience was the contrast between the stern, defensive exterior and the surprisingly elegant, lived-in interiors. Lavishly furnished drawing rooms, tapestries, portraits, and even a cozy library made it feel like a home — not just a monument. It’s also still part-residence, which gives it a rare authenticity.
