The building was originally constructed in 1936 as the Chiayi branch of the Tobacco and Alcohol Monopoly Bureau, designed by Shitsuro Maezawa, and is a modern-style architecture. The exterior retains its historical appearance while incorporating modern design elements such as glass curtain walls and wooden structures, showcasing a unique blend of old and new. The museum's interior includes exhibition halls, a library, a shop, a restaurant, and a garden, offering a diverse artistic experience.
