Stunning Blue Temple in Chiang Rai 🇹🇭
The Blue Temple, or Wat Rong Suea Ten, in Chiang Rai captivated me with its deep, striking indigo color and intricate design. As I approached, the vibrant blue exterior adorned with golden accents immediately caught my attention. Inside, the massive seated Buddha, bathed in soft blue light, exuded an air of serenity. The blend of modern art and traditional Buddhist elements gave the temple a unique charm. Every corner was filled with intricate details, from the vivid murals to the decorative sculptures, making it a visually stunning experience that left a lasting impression on my journey through northern Thailand.

Jaw dropping beautiful!
I’ve at this stage seen nearly two hundred if not more temples in my lifetime. This one was really beautiful! Their perfect balance in blue, gold and white makes great pictures!
🚌 There are busses from the city
🎟️ Entry is free
👗 They don’t have a set dress code
The construction of the newly built temple was only started in 2005. It’s significance today is a symbol of contemporary Thai Buddhist art and spirituality. Everything seems to be handmade and hand painted.
📸The first photo was taken just after the entrance to the Temple.
📸The second photo was taken outside from one of the many glass balls with artifacts inside.
📸The third photo was taken outside the main building.

You’ll only find these uniquely colored temples in Chiang Rai
It’s not often that you’ll find a temple colored in all white, but here in Chiang Rai you get to visit not only White Temple, but also Black Blue Temple.
We found a tour in the Old Town district of Chiang Mai, and they provided a full day tour including pick up and drop off from our hotel. The trip from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai took around 3 hours, but there are stops in between for you to visit the hot springs.
Chiang Rai is a lot colder and windier as compared to Chiang Mai, so do take note to bring some extra clothing. Much like every other temple in Thailand, short skirts and pants are not allowed for both guys and ladies, and if I remember correctly your bottoms must be at least knee length.
The infrastructure is beautiful and the carvings on the temple are so detailed. Anyone with some extra time to spare in Chiang Mai can choose to visit these temples

Wat Huay Pla Kang, Chiang Rai Province.
Wat Huay Pla Kang is home to the largest statue of Guan Yin in Chiang Rai.
Additionally, there is the Phop Chok Pagoda and a very beautiful white temple.
The white temple is completely white, both inside and out. It's truly stunning.
The pagoda features various forms of Guan Yin statues. Initially, I thought it was just an ordinary temple or a museum, but once inside, I was amazed. There are also many ways to make merit, such as donating land or rice, etc.
Anyone who is into making merit should not miss this place. But you can also just go for the view. 👍🏻

📍 Wat Huay Pla Kang, Chiang Rai, Thailand 🇹🇭

This temple is less well-known than the famous White Temple, but no less beautiful 🤍
Construction of the temple began in 2001, on the site of an old, poorly preserved temple.
This temple complex is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin, whose name means 'one who hears all the sufferings in the world.' She is most often depicted as a woman in white robes.
For 40 baht, you can take an elevator to the top and admire the outside world through the eyes of the Goddess 😍
🕖 Open every day from 7:00 to 21:00
💵 Entrance fee is free
‼️PRO TIP: The light is most beautiful at sunrise and sunset, and it is also less crowded 🔥
Also, don't forget to cover your shoulders and knees (this also applies to men) and take off your shoes before entering.

Wat Rong Khun - White Temple
Visiting Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple, was an amazing experience 🌟. The temple features a unique design and a sparkling white color that beautifully reflects the light 🏯. I enjoyed walking around the temple, admiring the intricate artistic details and beautiful decorations 🌸. The bridge leading to the sanctuary was special, symbolizing the transition from the worldly to the spiritual realm 😊. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, giving me the opportunity to meditate and appreciate the artistic beauty 📸. The staff were friendly and helpful, making my visit smoother and more enjoyable. It was an unforgettable visit, and I look forward to returning to discover more of the White Temple's beauty.
📍 Wat Rong Khun (White Temple), Chiang Rai, Thailand
The White Temple is a stunning and contemporary Buddhist temple known for its unique white exterior and intricate design. It was created by artist Chalermchai Kositpipat and is a significant cultural and tourist attraction.
Most things in the temple have hidden meanings and some cool pop-culture references! Definitely very unique.
🕗Open every day from 08:00 to 17:00
💵 Entrance fee is 100 Thai baht (~$2,5)
Tips for visiting:
🚁No drone zone: Flying drones in the temple's area is strictly prohibited without permission. Don't give tourists a bad reputation by ignoring the rules and trying to fly your drone out of sight.
🥻Modest dress code: As with many temples in Thailand, it's important to dress modestly. Avoid shorts, sleeveless shirts, and low-cut tops. They check pretty strictly at the entrance.
➡️Follow the direction of travel: You can only cross the bridge at the entrance once. Security was telling people off over the loudspeaker when they tried to cross back. It's also against the spirit of the place, you are only supposed to cross hell once.
👟Footwear: You'll need to remove your shoes before entering the main temple building, so it's a good idea to wear easy-to-remove footwear.
📸Arriving early doesn't really help here: There was already a queue at opening time. You're better off just lining up to cross the bridge if you want to get your perfect photo.
I hope this is helpful!

Explore Tai Yai Architecture in Chiang Rai at Wat San Pa Ko.
🏕 Wat San Pa Ko was built in 1916 by villagers who migrated from Kengtung in 1940 during the reign of King Rama V. The leaders, including Phra Ka Kham Heuang, Phu Jong Ti, Phu Jong Soi, Phu Loi, Phu Kung Na, and Phu Saen, led the villagers to clear the land, which had many trees called 'Ko,' hence the name of the temple and village, San Pa Ko.
🏚 They built temporary buildings roofed with thatch and invited Tai Yai monks to reside there, providing spiritual support to the villagers. The temple has been continuously developed and expanded.
🏚 In 1946, a vihara was built with a wooden floor and a roof made of clay tiles. In 1965, an ordination hall was constructed. From 1970 to 1975, the temple's surrounding wall was built.
🛖 In 1976, the vihara was renovated, replacing the roof with tiles and adding decorative elements like Chofa and Naga finials.
🛖 The temple was abandoned for a period but was later reestablished as a functioning temple with resident monks in 2013. It received royal recognition in 2014 and held the consecration ceremony in 2016.
🏰 The temple's architecture is in the Tai Yai style, with both the main vihara and the vihara for the day of birth featuring murals depicting Tai Yai traditions throughout the twelve months.
🏰 The multi-tiered vihara showcases Tai Yai art, with ancient ceiling paintings illustrating the zodiac animals according to Tai Yai, Burmese, and Tai Khun beliefs. Inside, there are three principal Buddha statues in Tai Yai style.
⛺ The Hor Phra Upakut is believed by Tai Yai, Burmese, and Lanna people to house Phra Upakut, a powerful monk and arahant who enjoys the bliss of liberation in the underwater city.
⛺ Additionally, the temple grounds feature Phra Chao Tan Jai and several Tai Yai architectural buildings worth visiting.

The Blue Temple of Chiang Rai
The Blue Temple, also known as Wat Rong Suea Ten, was designed by Phuttha Karbkaew, a disciple of Mr. Chalermchai Kositpipat, the creator of the White Temple. The architectural design incorporates Lanna and Burmese styles, and its exquisite carvings, intricate details, and imaginative sculptures create a visual masterpiece that is both astonishing and thought-provoking.
Discovering Chiang Rai’s Blue Temple
🔷✨ The Blue Temple in Chiang Rai is a mesmerizing oasis of tranquility and spiritual splendor. As I crossed the threshold of this architectural gem, I was immediately captivated by the ethereal blue hues that adorned every intricate detail, creating an otherworldly atmosphere.
The exterior, adorned with delicate carvings and shimmering blue mosaic tiles, set the tone for the celestial beauty that awaited within. The temple's design seamlessly blends traditional Thai and contemporary artistic elements, creating a sanctuary that feels both timeless and modern.
Stepping into the main hall, I was greeted by the resplendent sight of a majestic white Buddha bathed in a soft, celestial blue glow. The interplay of light and color created an aura of serenity, inviting contemplation and inner peace. The walls adorned with vibrant murals depicting celestial scenes added to the temple's allure.
The meticulous attention to detail extended to the surrounding structures, including the library and prayer halls. Each element, from the ornate windows to the intricately carved dragons guarding the entrance, spoke to the dedication and craftsmanship that went into creating this sacred space.
The courtyard, adorned with sculptures and lush greenery, provided a peaceful setting for reflection. As sunlight filtered through the blue-tinted windows, it cast a gentle glow, enhancing the spiritual ambiance of the entire temple complex.
Climbing the stairs to the elevated terrace offered a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, with the temple's blue and gold facade contrasting against the clear skies. It was a moment of pure awe, a visual symphony that celebrated both the earthly and the divine.
Leaving the Blue Temple, I carried with me a profound sense of tranquility and wonder.
