Silver Ubosot at Wat Sri Suphan

Wat Sri Suphan, located on Wua Lai Road in Chiang Mai, is an ancient temple renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship, particularly the "Silver Ubosot," which is recognized as the first silver ordination hall in the world. Inside the ubosot, the principal Buddha image, "Phra Chao Jed Tue," is enshrined in the Mara Vichaya posture. The interior also features metal murals that narrate Buddhist teachings and Lanna philosophy in profound detail. Additionally, the temple showcases silver handicrafts and offers demonstrations and workshops on silver-making led by local artisans at the temple's Silversmith Center. Although women are traditionally not allowed to enter the ubosot due to ancient beliefs, they can still admire and photograph its exterior up close.
