Daci Temple: Peaceful Oasis in Downtown Chengdu

I loved exploring Daci Temple—it’s such a calm, beautiful spot right in the middle of busy Chengdu. The traditional architecture, peaceful courtyards, and gentle incense aroma created a truly relaxing atmosphere. There’s something special about quietly walking around, watching locals pray, or just soaking up the serene vibes. The people are also extremely welcoming. Also, it’s conveniently close to Taikoo Li, perfect for combining shopping with culture. Definitely stop by if you’re in the area! Amazing place. Just between modern city and old temple. Absolutely fascinating. #discoverchina

Chengdu, Sichuan | Daci Temple Embroidered Orchid Path: The Exquisite Beauty of Traditional Embroidery Walking along the Daci Temple Embroidered Orchid Path, you'll discover not only the tranquility and Buddhist atmosphere of the ancient temple, but also a unique attraction rich in cultural charm: the Embroidery Gallery. The embroidery works on display are exquisitely crafted. Some depict flowers, birds, and landscapes, with distinct layers of color and gossamer-fine stitching; others depict ladies and auspicious animals, with vivid expressions and flowing lines. These works vividly showcase the traditional Sichuan embroidery craftsmanship. In addition to hanging paintings and screens, there are also small embroidered sachets, brocade bookmarks, and brocade boxes, integrating ancient crafts into everyday life. Each piece is like silk thread transformed into ink, time woven into fabric, evoking the allure of "the universe between needle and thread, the poetic spirit within silk."

Chengdu, Sichuan | Daci Temple Commemorates Xuanzang, the Master's Original Aspiration in the Western Journey to Seek the Dharma Chengdu's Daci Temple is renowned not only for its millennia-old temple, but also for a great monk: Master Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty. Xuanzang became a Buddhist monk here as a young boy. The temple's halls and bells bear witness to his earliest years of practice. Years later, he embarked on a perilous journey westward, enduring 81 trials and tribulations, ultimately bringing Buddhist scriptures back to China, achieving a pinnacle in the history of Chinese Buddhism. Today, within Daci Temple, a memorial dedicated to Xuanzang is established, showcasing the master's unwavering vows and unwavering pursuit of the Dharma through statues, inscriptions, and exhibits. Visitors standing before Xuanzang's statue, hands clasped together, are filled with reverence: a courage that transcends life and death, and a sincere pursuit of Buddhist truth. Xuanzang's legacy to Daci Temple is not only a history of his monastic life, but also a symbol of his original aspiration. The temple thus becomes a place where compassion, steadfastness, and the pursuit of the Dharma converge. For believers, visiting here is not only a way to pay homage to the Buddha but also an opportunity to learn from the master's resolve and perseverance. The Chengdu Daci Temple x Xuanzang Memorial Ceremony demonstrates that the light of the Dharma has been preserved for millennia precisely because of the tireless dedication of generations of practitioners.

Chengdu, Sichuan | Visit Daci Temple: A Pure Mind Amidst the Bustling City of Chengdu, lies a tranquil and solemn Buddhist sanctuary: Daci Temple. Entering the main gate, the red walls and green tiles shield you from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. The curling air of incense and the melodious tolling of bells create an instant sense of tranquility. Daci Temple was first built during the Wei and Jin dynasties and reached its peak during the Tang dynasty. It is renowned for the monk Xuanzang's ordination there. The temple boasts majestic halls, with the golden statue of the Buddha towering majestically in the main hall, surrounded by the compassionate faces of Bodhisattvas. Devotees pay homage here, praying for both blessings and wisdom. When worshipping, hold a fragrant incense stick and bow first to the Buddha's majesty and compassion; second to the Bodhisattvas' universal salvation; and third to the Dharma protectors' protection of the righteous path. The burning of incense serves not only as a prayer but also as a reminder to cultivate a mind like the Buddha's: clear, compassionate, and steadfast.

Chengdu Daci Temple · Corridor Entrance | A Deep Corridor Leads to Tranquility Amidst Chengdu's bustling city, Daci Temple stands quietly for a thousand years. As I approached this corridor entrance, my pace unconsciously slowed. The corridor is dim, and on either side of the wall, inscribed in ink, words like "Promote the Craftsman's Flavor" and "May the National Fortune Prosper" serve as a reminder to every visitor: this isn't just a transformation of architecture, but also a transformation of the heart. Walking through this long corridor, the hustle and bustle of the city gradually fades, leaving only the clatter of bells and wooden fish. This corridor is more than just a path to the Buddhist temple; it's a bridge from the mundane to the tranquil. At Daci Temple, the entrance is more than just an entrance; it serves as a reminder to the mundane: From here, let go and be still.
