Chengdu Mysteries: Qingyang Temple, Fascinating Travel

#travelinginchina Qingyang Palace, located in the West Second Section of the First Ring Road in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is known as the “First Taoist Temple in Western Sichuan” and the “First Jungle in Southwest China”. It is one of the famous Taoist palace temples in the country.Qingyang Palace was built in the Tang Dynasty, formerly known as Qingyang Palace. Most of the existing buildings were rebuilt one after another during the Kangxi Period of the Qing Dynasty, covering an area of about 120,000 square meters. Historical background and cultural significance The history of Qingyang Palace can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty and is said to be the place where Lao Tzu preached. When Emperor Xizong of Tang avoided chaos and entered Shu, he stationed here and built Qingyang Palace.Lu You, a literati of the Song Dynasty, described the grandeur of Qingyang Palace in detail in his book "Notes of Laoxue Nunnery", calling it “the most magnificent of Taoism.” Qingyang Palace is not only the center of Taoist activities, but also a gathering place for literati and scholars. Su Shi, Lu You and other literati have left poems here, adding a strong cultural heritage to it. Main buildings and features The architectural layout of Qingyang Palace reflects the Taoist idea of “unity of heaven and man”. The main buildings are distributed along the central axis, including the Lingzu Hall, the Mixed Yuan Hall, and the Sanqing Hall, which are magnificent. The Hanyuan Hall is tall and majestic, and the Bagua Pavilion is its most well-preserved and luxurious building. It enshrines the statue of Lao Tzu riding a green goat. There are also a large number of precious cultural relics such as Taoist classics, magical instruments, and murals preserved in the palace. Among them, the "Collection of Taoism" is the most complete edition in the world and provides important information for the study of Taoist culture. Modern influences and activities Qingyang Palace is not only a tourist attraction, but also a platform for cultural exchanges. Every year, a large number of tourists from home and abroad come to feel the charm of Taoist culture. The traditional temple fair held every year in Qingyang Palace is an important folk event in Chengdu. During the temple Fair, Taoist science and technology, folk art, and traditional cuisine complement each other, demonstrating the deep integration of Taoist culture and folk culture. In addition, Qingyang Palace also provides spiritual guidance to modern people through scriptures, health lectures, etc., where many urbanites have found spiritual comfort.

Qingyang Taoist Temple

#chinatravel Spent a day temple hopping around Chengdu in Sichuan Province and it was honestly such a vibe. Each temple has its own energy, and it’s the perfect way to slow down and soak in the peaceful side of the city. Started at Wenshu Monastery which was super calm and had monks chanting softly in the background. The tea garden there is a must, I sat with a cup and just chilled under the trees for like an hour. Then hit up Qingyang Palace, which has Taoist vibes and some wild looking statues. The whole place feels super balanced and kind of magical. Also stopped by Daci Temple which is right in the middle of the city but still quiet once you step inside. The contrast between ancient temples and modern buildings is actually kinda cool. If you want a break from the city noise and a little dose of calm, temple hopping in Chengdu totally hits. Just go with the flow, light some incense, and enjoy the moment.
