Bogota National Museum - Must-see Attractions

The National Museum of Colombia is the oldest museum in the country and one of the oldest in South America.  Architectural Style - The museum was built in 1874 by Thomas Reid in a castle-like structure made of stone and brick, with arches, domes and columns forming the shape of a Greek cross. History - Originally known as the "Panóptico", the building was inspired by the circular prison and served as a prison from 1874 to 1946. - It was converted into the National Museum in 1948 and renovated in 1975. Exhibition Room Settings - Conquest Room: displays historical artifacts of Colombia during the conquest period. - Colonial Room: Contains artworks and objects from this period, including various exhibits representing the cultural characteristics of that time. - Independence Period Exhibition Room: Mainly displays historical relics and materials related to Colombia's independence. - Exhibition Room of the Republic Period: presents the historical development and cultural changes during the Republic Period. Collection - Quantity: The museum houses more than 20,000 objects. - Category: Includes samples of archaeological and ethnographic artifacts dating back to more than 10,000 years BC, up to the art and culture of indigenous and Afro-Colombian peoples in the twentieth century. - Representative collections: exhibits from the period of the Founders and the New Kingdom of Granada, such as portraits of the Liberator and other Spaniards; the circular exhibition room exhibits a series of famous works from the history of Colombian painting, such as works by masters such as Deborah Arango, Fernando Botero, Enrique Grau and others.
