Bazhong Nankang: Unforgettable Memories

Nestled in the embrace of Ba Mountains and Shu waters, Bazhong Nankang shines like a hidden pearl, radiating its unique charm. On April 26, 2025, we made a special trip to admire these Sui and Tang Dynasty cliff rock carvings. As those thousand-year-old cliff sculptures once again came into view, we were stunned by the sight before us— The Buddhist statues, some solemn and dignified, others with kind eyes and gentle expressions, were each carved with exquisite detail and lifelike precision, as if narrating their glorious history. One Guanyin statue caught my attention. Her figure was graceful, her face full, her eyes slightly closed, with a faint smile on her lips, seemingly showing compassion for all beings in the world. Her flowing robes and natural, fluid lines resembled lively musical notes, making one marvel at the divine craftsmanship of ancient artisans... Walking among the grottoes, we seemed to travel back to the prosperous Tang Dynasty. During that time, Buddhism flourished, and devotees, with sincere faith, carefully carved these Buddha statues on steep cliffs, hoping they would protect the local people and bring blessings for generations to come. Today, though time has left weathered marks on these sculptures, the faith and culture they carry remain timeless and radiant. This return visit to Nankang not only allowed us to appreciate once more the wonders of nature and the exceptional skills of ancient craftsmen but also deepened our understanding of the profound historical culture. Nankang, this sacred place carrying a thousand years of history and culture, has been deeply imprinted in our hearts, becoming an unforgettable scene in our memories!
