Travel tips for Barranquilla

1. Barranquilla is a city I didn’t know much about. It was not originally in my travel plan. I happened to see on the Internet that I could apply for a Venezuelan visa on the same day. It also happened to be very convenient between Cartagena and Santa Marta, so I came here. Unexpectedly, it was Epiphany holiday, so I couldn’t get a visa and was forced to stay in bed for another day. 2. I asked chatGPT to help me write an itinerary and picked out a few attractions from Viator's city tour to put together a one-day trip, hoping to go for a stroll, but it turned out that even the church and the zoo were closed! First of all, I don't recommend you to come here, but if you are here, here are some of the few places you can visit. 3. Visit Iglesia de San Nicolás de Tolentino (a 17th-century church), Plaza de la Aduana (an old commercial center, a yellow-paneled building, I forgot to take a photo when I passed by), Teatro Amira de la Rosa (a cultural complex), Zoológico de Barranquilla (a small zoo), Gran Malecón del Río (riverside avenue) 4. Barranquilla’s famous tourist attraction is the second largest carnival in Latin America, Carnaval de Barranquilla. I didn’t catch it. The 25th Carnival is from March 1st to March 4th. Friends who can make time should not miss it. There is a museum related to local indigenous culture, music and literature 5. Museo del Caribe, which was originally the focus of the travel agency's itinerary, but it was not open when I went there, and the map showed that it was permanently closed. 6. Transportation: Intercity shuttle is at Barranquilla Transportes Marsol Office. The city is quite big and the attractions cannot be reached on foot. There are buses in the city but they are not shown on the map. You can ask locals or take a taxi. Uber is available but there are few cars. It is not expensive to just hail a taxi. Very user-friendly
