During the Songkran Festival, why is it necessary to bring sand into the temple? 🤔 It is assumed that the reason for bringing sand into the temple is that in ancient times, Thai people would walk around barefoot. When entering a temple, in the past, temples would pour sand for monks to walk and meditate, which is a tradition from Sri Lanka. Buddhists who entered the temple might accidentally step on it and have grains of sand stick to their feet. Therefore, during the Songkran Festival, sand is brought to offer to the temple so that they do not become indebted to the monks by taking something from the monks (i.e. sand) with them unintentionally. Will there be another sand pile this year?
