Is Capella Bangkok truly "the world's best"?

Attracted by the title of "the world's best," I decided to stay at Capella Bangkok. After my stay, I honestly feel this hotel is like a blind box—it has some amazing surprises but also quite a few disappointments! Is it worth it? Let me break it down for you. ✨ First, the pros—attention to detail lovers will go crazy! The Egyptian cotton bedding is so soft it feels like sleeping on clouds, ensuring a great night's sleep. The breakfast is à la carte and incredibly refined, with standout dishes like Eggs Benedict with eel and stir-fried chicken noodles. Enjoying breakfast by the riverside while feeling the breeze from the Chao Phraya River is the ultimate chill experience! Even if you don't opt for treatments at the spa, you can still enjoy free access to the hot springs and sauna, complete with fragrant hand sprays and delightful snacks. The service is so meticulous it's almost overwhelming! The butler prepares the turndown service daily, replenishes the minibar, and even provides high-quality furry slippers. The hotel is tucked away by the Chao Phraya River and shares a pier with the Four Seasons, making it super convenient to take the free shuttle boat to IconSiam. Watching the sunset over the Grand Palace from the boat is an unparalleled experience. While the Stella bar with its white peacock is a popular photo spot, the tea lounge is even more relaxing for sunset views. Sipping Earl Grey tea while gazing at the lotus pond is truly healing! 💣 But there are quite a few downsides too! The pool is shockingly small—great for photos but not practical for swimming. Compared to the Four Seasons next door, it falls short. The river view rooms overlook the Chao Phraya River, which is so murky it resembles curry soup, making the 7k per night price tag feel unjustified. The service also starts strong but noticeably declines later on—initially warm and friendly like an old friend, but later becoming indifferent. After the bar opened to the public, it became overcrowded with photo-seekers, leaving guests with no privacy. In terms of luxurious decor, Capella also loses out to the Anantara Riverside. In summary, if you're looking for a ceremonial and private experience, it might be worth trying at the 3-4k price range. But if you're going for the "world's best" title and high room rates, you're likely to be disappointed! Make sure to think carefully before booking!
