Goose Life Boutique Hotel, Thailand

SIM STUDIO Wildness, freshness, and freedom. This 40-year-old shophouse is located in the center of Bangkok, Thailand. The project is based on the concept of "the life of geese...wild, fresh, and free". The design inspiration comes from the scenery seen by the hotel owner while strolling in Central Park in New York. The impression of "free geese in nature" is integrated into the transformation of boutique hotels and restaurants. SIMSTUDIO has restored and transformed this ancient five-story shophouse, injecting new life into Sukhumvit71's old street. The project has a total usable area of 900 square meters, including a restaurant on the first floor, 20 guest rooms, and a rooftop bar. The design of indoor space extracts forms and colors from the "life" of geese for reconstruction, and reflects the characteristics of geese through materials. It outlines rich and interesting details with simple lines to meet the needs of flexible use. Design uses curves in several places to blend the structural rigidity of the reception area and dining area through curved furniture. The mirrored ceiling provides another dimension of reflection for the indoor space, creating different perspectives that conceptually echo the Asian-style small tavern. In addition, the dining table and chairs are made up of modular chairs that can perfectly blend into a round table to save space and expand the traffic area of the dining room. According to the nature of the original shophouse, the accommodation area can be divided into city view rooms and solid wall rooms without natural light. The design solves the lighting problem by adding skylights on the fifth floor, and the central courtyard light well connects the fifth to second floors, allowing every room inside the building to be bathed in natural light all day. From the outside, the enclosure structure of the building is composed of layers of box-shaped steel components, which cut the contour into easily understandable geometric lines.
