“Mon Temple (Pradittharam) Wat Pradittharam is an old temple that has been in Thonburi since the beginning. When there was a Mon abbot and the Mon people migrated to live in the area, it was simply called “Mon Temple” (according to the Mon script that is commonly found in the temple, “Phia Mon = Mon Temple”). It became a temple for the new Mon people who migrated in during the reign of King Phutthaloetla Naphalai (Rama II) and settled down in the Khlong Bang Sai Kai area. People generally called it “Mon House”. There were “Lao House” and “Kaek House” nearby, who migrated to live in the same area. It is believed that they all worked under Somdet Chao Phraya (Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Sri Suriyawong – Chuang Bunnag). The Mon people in the Wat Pradittharam community were skilled in the navy and served in the navy in ancient times. There is evidence of the remains of an ancient ship inside the temple. In addition to the Mon script “Phia Mon” (which is not very well written) that can be found inside the temple, It is a pity that the surrounding communities that were descended from the new Mon people at that time do not have much Mon identity left. However, it was found that there were more Burmese Mon workers living in the communities around Wat Pradittharam at present, which is a fusion of Mon culture through two eras.
