Ratchaprapha Dam, Thailand's Guilin

The original name of the Ratchaprapha Dam was Chiew Lan Dam, located in Surat Thani Province. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej gave it a new name, “Ratchaprapha Dam,” which means “the light of the kingdom.” The Ratchaprapha Dam was built to block the Khlong Saeng River in Ban Chiew Lan, Khao Phang Subdistrict, Ban Takhun District, Surat Thani Province. Most of the area is adjacent to Khao Sok National Park. It is a 94-meter high, 761-meter long rockfill dam with five other dams blocking the Khao Khat Pass. The Ratchaprapha Dam was completed in September 1987.
