Chief Mountain is 2,769 meters above sea level and is located on the eastern border of Glacier National Park and the Blackfoot Indian Reservation in Montana, USA. The mountain is one of the most prominent peaks and rock formations in the Rocky Mountain Front, a 320-kilometer-long thrust fault known as the Lewis Thrust that stretches from central Montana to southern Alberta, Canada. The peak is therefore easy to see from Alberta, as Mount Chief rises nearly 1,500 metres above the Great Plains to the east. However, it is obvious through comparison that the view of Chief Mountain in the United States is better than that in Canada.
