The Atami Fireworks Festival in Atami City, Japan, has a long and storied history. It originated in the aftermath of the typhoon disaster in 1949 and the fire in front of Atami Station in 1950. To revitalize the city and uplift the spirits of its citizens, a revival fireworks festival was held. Atami Port, surrounded by mountains on three sides, forms a natural amphitheater, enhancing the sound of the fireworks and earning praise from many pyrotechnic artisans. This tradition has continued for 74 years. The Atami Fireworks Festival is held more than 10 times a year, mainly in the summer, with 5,000 fireworks launched, culminating in a grand finale featuring a massive 2-shaku-diameter firework.
