Asen's Fortress 🗺️

#summerdestinations During my summer vacation, I visited Asen's Fortress, located near the town of Asenovgrad in Bulgaria. This medieval fortress, perched on a rocky hilltop, offers incredible panoramic views of the surrounding Rhodope Mountains. The entrance fee was a modest €2, making it an excellent value for such a memorable experience. 🏰🌄 The fortress itself is relatively small, but the hike up is well worth it for the stunning vistas and the glimpse into Bulgaria's rich history. The remains of the old walls and the Church of the Holy Mother of God are fascinating, giving you a real sense of the fortress’s historical significance during the Second Bulgarian Empire. Nearby, Asenovgrad is a charming town with quaint cafes and local shops. If you have more time, the stunning Bachkovo Monastery is just a short drive away and offers a beautiful complement to your visit with its historical and spiritual heritage.
