Slow Down and Savor the Joys of Travel—The Netherlands

Visiting the Netherlands, strolling through the city center, I was immediately captivated by the unique European architecture. Expansive squares, pigeons briefly resting, bustling crowds, and magnificent, historically rich buildings formed my first impression of this country. The streets and alleys are lined with small yet distinctive coffee shops, each exuding the enticing aroma of coffee as you step inside. One of my favorite scenes was turning a corner into a small alley and seeing people casually pulling out chairs to sit in front of their homes, reading in the glow of the setting sun. Young women whizzing by on bicycles, their skirts fluttering in the breeze, all gave me the impression that the locals here embrace a relaxed and chill lifestyle, savoring life in a way that is utterly charming. As a country famous for its waterways, the canals encircling the city are a must-see. Many of the canals are dotted with people paddling small boats, enjoying the scenic views along the banks. I chose to dine at a riverside restaurant, indulging in a delicious dinner. What’s special about summer in the Netherlands is the late sunset due to its latitude—almost until 10 PM. This allows for a leisurely lakeside dinner experience. However, despite the bright skies, the temperature drops significantly, so it’s important to stay warm. On another afternoon, I opted to sit by the river, sipping on a drink while soaking in the beauty around me. Visiting this city seems to have taught me how to better appreciate the passage of time. Perhaps this is the true essence of travel.
