An exhibition showcasing the experimental spirit of artists

At the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, I had the chance to see works by artists from Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam who formed the COBRA group in the early 1950s. Known for rejecting tradition and painting instinctively, their works were truly unique. One of the highlights was a painting by Constant, depicting the scars left by war through imagery like a broken carriage wheel and a hand with six fingers. It made me reflect on how it might represent the chaotic and anxious post-war era. Another remarkable piece was "Entrelacement de fleurs" by Corneille. As its subtitle "Woven Flowers" suggests, it featured vibrant colors of cactus-like flowers intertwined yet connected, creating a stunning visual. I also had the chance to see a painting by Karel Appel. This exhibition is highly recommended for those interested in exploring the experimental spirit of artists who defied tradition and followed their instincts.
