As we approached the town by car, Altea’s historic quarter emerged against the massive backdrop of the Bernia Mountains offering a beautiful panorama.

Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Alicante (Region) The town of Altea sits on top of a hill, with the highest point above sea level being the bell tower of the Parish Church of Our Lady of Consuelo, with its wide dome covered in blue and white tiles and a second dome with a smaller dome on top. From the square in front of the church we could see the whole area. From here, a number of steep cobbled streets begin to descend towards the sea, many of which have steps or are lined with small viewing platforms and pavilions. Typical white houses mark the road, which was formerly protected by solid walls. Artists' workshops and studios, as well as craft shops, can often be found in this traditional urban space. In the lower part of the town we find King Jaime I’s commercial street, the fishermen’s quarter and the port, an area dominated by the fishing trade. We can also see the crowded seaside promenade, as well as six kilometers of pebbly beaches, coves and cliffs. In Altea we must mention two festivals: the fireworks at the Castell de Oura in August, and the celebrations of the Moors and Christians in late September. #JanuaryDestinations2025 #SpainTravel #Valencia
