Drawn by its reputation, we set foot in Xiuning's Xitou Village, initially thinking we'd regretfully miss the central Sanhuai Hall. Unexpectedly, a phone call led us into a heartwarming encounter with the ancient village. Upon arriving at the village entrance, Sanhuai Hall's vermilion wooden doors were tightly shut. We contacted the village staff with a 'let's give it a try' attitude. To our surprise, they were exceptionally enthusiastic and quickly came to open the doors of this ancient residence for us, allowing us to glimpse its profound cultural heritage. The staff led us around, explaining in detail that Sanhuai Hall has over a hundred wooden pillars, many of which have been affected by woodworms. The village is fully committed to restoration work, solely to preserve the integrity of this old residence. Stepping on the bluestone slabs inside the hall, looking at the pillars, some mottled, some bearing traces of woodworms, it felt as if we could touch the centuries of history the ancient house had endured. The village's dedicated preservation of cultural relics earned even more respect. Stepping out of Sanhuai Hall, Xitou Village's original ecological landscape fully unfolded before our eyes. There's no excessive commercialization here, no dazzling shops or noisy hawkers, only the most authentic rural appearance remains. Green mountains and clear waters embrace scattered white walls and dark gray tiles. The wind sweeps through the mountains and forests, bringing the sound of pine waves and the unique rustic charm of farm life. Chickens and ducks are seen everywhere in the village, roaming and pecking for food by the courtyards; occasionally, the low mooing of cattle can be heard. In the Baoqing period of the Southern Song Dynasty, Taoist Yu Daoyuan built the You Sheng Zhenwu Temple, establishing the Taoist foundation of Mount Qiyun. In the Ming Dynasty, descendants of Zhang Tianshi from Longhu Mountain stationed here. Due to Emperor Shizong’s prayer for an heir being answered, the Xuantian Taisu Palace was decreed to be built, making Mount Qiyun the center of Taoist activities in Jiangnan, on par with Wudang Mountain, earning the nickname "Little Wudang of Jiangnan." 🏔 Xuantian Taisu Palace is the core Taoist building of Mount Qiyun, surrounded by four peaks: Zhong Peak, Drum Peak, Jade Screen Peak, and Incense Burner Peak.
