The beauty of Mae Hong Son Thailand 🇹🇭
#traveldiaries
Mae Hong Son is a remote, mountainous province in northern Thailand, bordering Myanmar (Burma). Though sparsely populated, it's ethnically diverse and home to hill tribes such as the Shan and Hmong. The capital, also called Mae Hong Son, is a gateway to the region's hills. It's overlooked by Wat Phrathat Doi Kongmu, a Burmese-style monastery with 2 ornate white chedis (stupas) built in the 19th century.
Generally, with its hilly landscapes, Mae Hong Son has cooler temperatures than other provinces in Thailand, which is often perceived as more pleasant to travel .

Sunrise at Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu 🇹🇭
#temples
Perched atop the scenic hills of Mae Hong Son, Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu offers visitors a serene and spiritually enriching experience, particularly at sunrise. This ancient temple, distinguished by its two majestic chedis, becomes a place of profound beauty and tranquility when the first rays of the sun light up the sky.
A Haven of Peace and Spirituality
As dawn breaks over Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu, the entire complex is bathed in a gentle golden light. The temple, with its traditional Lanna architecture, provides a stunning contrast against the soft morning sky. The air is crisp and cool, filled with the sweet scent of incense and the sounds of morning prayers, creating an atmosphere that uplifts the soul.
Panoramic Views at Dawn
The vantage point from Doi Kongmu hill offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the sleepy town of Mae Hong Son below. As the sun rises, the landscape transforms with hues of orange, pink, and purple, casting a mystical glow over the mist-covered hills. This spectacular sight not only offers great photographic opportunities but also a moment of deep contemplation and renewal.
Engaging with Local Culture
Visiting Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu at sunrise allows for a unique glimpse into the daily rituals and practices of the local monks. Observing or even participating in the morning alms or meditation sessions can provide a deeper understanding of Thai Buddhist traditions and the spiritual heritage of the region.
Visitor Tips
- Early Arrival: Be sure to arrive early to catch the pre-dawn serenity and secure a good spot for sunrise viewing. The temple opens at dawn, and it’s worth getting there as the gates open.
- Dress Respectfully: Remember to wear appropriate attire to show respect in this sacred place. Shoulders and knees should be covered, and shoes removed when entering the temple buildings.
- Quiet and Respectful Behavior: Maintain a respectful silence or speak softly when on temple grounds, especially during morning prayers and meditations.

Ban Rak Thai, Mae Hong Son
Visiting Ban Rak Thai is like going to China.
The atmosphere around the village plus the cool air makes you feel like you're really visiting China. You can go sightseeing and take pictures. Or if you want to experience the atmosphere a little more, we recommend staying overnight because in the morning, it's really great. There's fog floating over the lake, which is the best atmosphere.
There are many accommodations here, but the most famous and popular one is Le Wine Ban Rak Thai, a Yunnan-style adobe house that blends in with the village. Or you can try Cha Sarak Thai, which has an equally good atmosphere.

Little good things
#Cafe Review Little Good Things in Mae Hong Son is a cafe that emphasizes on being completely natural. The concept emphasizes the use of natural materials such as wood, stone or fabric. This can be seen from the simple but beautiful interior decoration to create a warm and friendly atmosphere. Let me tell you that the shop makes both food and bakery and is all vegan. Before eating, you have to look and enjoy the beauty first. The detailed work, the sight, the taste, the smell, the sound, I am always amazed when I eat. And how can this bakery do it? No eggs, no milk, no butter, and in some cases, no sugar. Some days, there is natural yeast bread. You have to eat it slowly, respecting the long time it takes for the bread to rise from the natural yeast.

Dam in the mist, a tourist attraction in Ban Rak Thai, Mae Hong Son
#Natural attractions, visiting the dam in the fog
#Ban Rak Thai is a place you must visit once.
I'll share the atmosphere of #Dam in the Fog at Ban Rak Thai, Mae Hong Son Province.
When driving into Ban Rak Thai, it's like being transported to China.
This is a Yunnan Chinese village. The houses, shops, restaurants, and homestays are decorated in Chinese style.
This place is beautiful all day long. There is a water source in the middle (Dam in the Fog). The accommodations, shops, and restaurants are all around the Dam in the Fog. Wan went during Christmas. The weather was nice and cool.
- At night, the whole village turns on the lights. No matter where you look, you'll see lights from resorts, restaurants, and shops. Find something to eat, walk around, and take pictures in the beautiful village.
- The highlight here is the morning. If you come during the cool weather in the early morning until the sun rises, you'll see the fog rising from the water source in the Dam in the Fog. Many people like to take a boat ride amidst the fog.
🚘 To get to Ban Rak Thai, Wan drove on the #good road, but!!! It's a mountain road that #must pass through more than a thousand curves (up and down like a roller coaster). If you get motion sickness easily, take some medicine to prevent it. The distance is quite far. But there are rest stops and viewpoints at intervals.

🛶 Take a boat trip and sip tea amidst the mist. A special atmosphere. A dream place for many people, including us. Today, we got to experience it. Let me tell you, it's amazing.
🌬️ A village surrounded by mist and extremely cold weather. A romantic atmosphere both day and night.
If anyone comes here, you will definitely not be bored because there are many things to do in one day. Whether it's starting the day by taking a boat trip and sipping tea amidst the mist hitting the water's surface, picking tea leaves in the evening, and walking around the village at night, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
P.S. But on the day we came, there was quite a bit of fog, but it wasn't a problem because everything was still beautiful and the atmosphere was great.
The location is near Pang Ung. It only takes 20 minutes to get to Baan Rak Thai. If anyone comes to visit the North, don't forget to stop by.

This winter, relax and feed the fish in the cave at Tham Pla.
Tham Pla is located at the foot of the mountain. It is a large pool of water, about 2 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep. Inside the cave, there is a pool of water and water flowing out of the cave all the time. Therefore, it is a unique cave, different from other places because there are also many fish living in the cave. This is the origin of the name Tham Pla.
Because the water here is quite clear, it is home to the Pla Pluang, or in northern dialect, the Phung or Mung fish. This type of fish likes to live in waterfalls and streams in the forest. It has large scales and is in the same family as the carp and koi.

Hiking at Hua Wa Cho, the new mountain in Mae Hong Son Province ⛰️🌳
⛰ Wawajo, a new mountain in Mae Hong Son Province
Walking is not as tiring as driving, dear.
I thought we had already reached Burma 🤣🤣 It took about 13-14 hours by car, and another hour with a 4WD before we reached the starting point. Just imagine 😂
We started walking at around 16:00 and reached the campsite.
The sun was setting just in time 😂
There are many tent sites, and there are not many in each area. Our campsite is near Doi Hong Kai, which is before Wawajo Peak.
Walking route
•The first distance is 3-4 kilometers. The first part is a bit tiring, but once you get close to the top of the mountain, it's easy.
•The second distance is about 1 kilometer. This route goes to the campsite beyond Wawajo Peak, which is steep, so steep... Throw away your trekking poles. They're useless. The only thing you need is grass. The path is very narrow, and there's a ravine next to it. It's quite dangerous.
But you get a million-dollar view, you know.
It's really beautiful, no kidding 💚

Amazing Route around Chiang Mai!
This route was done in 1 day! However, it gets really tiring especially with the mountainous ride.
Take a sip of tea and a bowl of hot soup noodles in Pang Mahba, dangling your feet off the air! The food was really good too.
Supposedly if you are travelling in a group, it would be great to break the itinerary into a few days, stay overnight in Ban Rak Thai, beautiful Yunan village at the border of Myanmar/China!
Oriental Gem in a hidden Thailand valley
The city name "Ban Rak Thai" is directly translated to "I love Thailand" which was hidden in a valley of Mae Hon Son province in Thailand. The city is well hidden in lush green bamboo and vegetables farm. It's recommended to access via motorbike or car if you have good skills to make it through narrow and steep corners. It's about an hour away from the capital city of Mae Hon Son.
Thing Bua Tong Fields With A View
Mae Hong Son is located west of the city of chiang mai and I believe it is too underrated. If you are someone who loves scenery, unblocked views and the sunrise and sunset you should head here. There is a small little village on top if the mountains here down south of Mae Hong Son called Thung Bua Tong where you be able to catch beautiful views of the colourful flowers being growned on the lush mountains with a backdrop view of the mountains in the background.
The best time to visit her is in the later part of the year where you be able to see the many sunflowers especially which you get to see around Thailand where some will use it as offerings for temples during the prayers. Such amazing view in a rural area in Thailand.

The Village Of Mae Hong Son
Mae Hong Son is a village located on the west side of chiang mai where also the popular village Pai is.
This is a very rural area where not much tourists visits unless you are made known about it and is someone that would like to explore the less explored places like Mae Hong Son, which is also located in the mountainous region in Chiang Mai.
The weather here is exceptionally cooling and crisp when in the morning, and if you do like trekking and the nature in the national parks, this is an ideal location for travel, not forgetting budget friendly too!

For the tourist attractions that everyone wants to experience the cold weather, another place is Pang Ung. Pang Ung National Park has accommodation for tourists in 2 zones. Today, I will review the park's bungalows. They can accommodate 2 people and have a private bathroom. It is very comfortable. There is a water heater. There is a fan in the room. But don't be afraid of the heat because the weather is very cold.
