Take a boat trip through the old town of the Edo period near Narita.
For those who have time left before boarding the plane back to Thailand, Let's go to #SAWARA, an interesting old town not far from Narita Airport. It takes half an hour to drive there or about 40 minutes by train from JR Narita Station.
.
This is an old town from the Edo period. There is a beautiful Ono Canal where we can take a boat ride to experience the atmosphere. You will get an ancient Japanese atmosphere or focus on walking and taking pictures. They open the old houses for us to see the lifestyle of Japanese people in the Edo period. The houses you see are well-maintained.

📍Sawara/Chiba
I visited Sawara, about an hour's drive from Chiba Station 😆
Sawara, also known as Little Edo, is a water town with many historical buildings 🌿
It is often used as a location for movies and dramas 🎬
The weather was good, so everywhere I took a picture was picturesque ❕
It's close to Tokyo, and Sawara on weekdays is a hidden gem that I highly recommend 🫢🤍
The whole town is filled with retro, and next time I'd like to go on a walking tour eating dango and sweets 🤤🍡
It was a wonderful townscape that made me want to take pictures forever 🕊️

Take a leisurely stroll through Sawara City and admire the Edo period houses.
Sawara City, not far from Narita City, is a lovely old town and shopping district. Walking along the small alleys reminds me of the atmosphere of the prosperous Edo period.
We visited during the New Year and most of the shops were closed, so we could only see the houses and buildings in Sawara that had been renovated to their original form. However, seeing the various historical buildings, such as traditional warehouses used by merchants and Western-style brick structures, is just as enjoyable.
If it is not a festival day, tourists can also take a boat ride.
Although it was a bit quiet today, it was beautiful and had a Japanese feel, so you can take beautiful pictures to show off to your friends.

Full of retro charm! Sawara, Katori City
This time we came to Sawara Station!
The station building has a nice old retro feel.
The hotel in front of the station, Route Inn, also has that same atmosphere.
It's not an old hotel by any means, but it has a nice retro feel to it!
It's a cheap hotel with good value for money.

Strolling through Sawara Water Village
#Overseas Travel#Japan Travel #Japan#Chiba Prefecture#
Sawara Water Village is a 30-minute drive from Narita and about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Tokyo. It has a century-old history and is known as "Little Edo". It is a water village built along the Ono River, a tributary of the Tone River, Japan's largest river.
✅The streets are full of history, and there are merchant houses left over from the Edo period everywhere. Some are rebuilt on the original site, and some are renovated.
✅In addition to various old-fashioned snack shops and fruit shops, there are also various restaurants, such as eel rice, French cuisine, and Italian cuisine, which are all very distinctive and well-received restaurants😍😍
✅Constitutes the most beautiful scenery on both sides of the Ono River in Sawara Water Village

It's very delicious, so please try it♩

#I miss Sawara in Japan, because there you can feel the Edo-style Japan.
Known as the water town of Sawara, it is only about a 90-minute drive from Tokyo at the fastest.
With its Edo-style buildings and nostalgic river, you can choose to stroll or take a boat ride when visiting Sawara - it's like going back to Japan.
traffic:
Express bus (fastest): Departs from Tokyo Station and goes directly to Sawara
JR: Take the JR Sobu Line from Tokyo Station to Narita Station, change to the JR Narita Line and get off at Sawara Station

[Sawara, Chiba] A trip to enjoy the charming townscape and local gourmet food
Enjoy the famous shaved ice while strolling through the streets of Sawara, known as Little Edo. The sudachi shaved ice is a perfect summer dish, combining the moderate sweetness of wasanbon with the sourness of sudami 🍧✨
After visiting the historic Katori Shrine, take a leisurely walk along the river and enjoy the picturesque scenery. This is a relaxing spot where you can relax and enjoy the cloudless blue sky and the slowly flowing river.

Sawara, an ancient city from the Edo period
Sawara, the old town of Little Edo, is located in Chiba, not far from Tokyo. It is an ancient village with the Ono River in the middle. On the other side are houses with strange Japanese-style shapes. If you go during spring, you will see cherry trees 🌸🌸 plus Edo-era wooden houses. It is a perfect image for Japan!!! Importantly, many shops here have family business successors, so it is called the old town that is still alive. 🏠

📍LE UN NIPPONIA Sawara Merchant Town Hotel
Sawara has a traditional townscape that makes it hard to believe you're in Chiba.
The restaurant in this renovated old house was very stylish and wonderful.
The Japanese French course uses plenty of local ingredients and can be enjoyed with all five senses.
It's so stylish, yet lunch is in the 4000 yen range, dinner is 5500 yen for a half course, and 7150 yen for a full course, which is unthinkable in Tokyo...
This restaurant is recommended for dates and anniversaries 🍽️

📍 NIPPONIA Sawara Merchant Town Hotel
I'm a big fan of NIPPONIA, so I decided to check out the one in Chiba!
VMG RESORTS runs many hotels that make use of old buildings and streetscapes, and NIPPONIA is their signature hotel series.
This time I went to NIPPONIA in Sawara, Chiba!
This is a decentralized hotel, with the buildings that serve as the rooms dotted around the reception building.
The room we stayed in, the Seigaku building, was renovated from a storehouse.
The whole building is rented, so you don't have to worry about traveling with children🥹
At night, you can take a boat ride around the town of Sawara while enjoying a drink on a moon-viewing boat🚣♂️
It was a different experience from the daytime🌙

Chiba🇯🇵Katori Shrine
Since ancient times, the royal family has held the utmost respect for the god of national defense, especially the imperial title of "Jingu" (before the Meiji era, there were only Ise, Katori, and Kashima). After the Middle Ages, it became a shrine in Shimosa Province. After the Meiji era, it became an official shrine under the shrine system. In the 17th year of the Showa era, it was governed by an imperial shrine and continues to exist to this day.
Led by Kasuga Taisha in Nara and Shiogama Jinja Shrine in Miyagi, shrines dedicated to Katori Okami are spread all over the country and are widely revered.
People generally believe in him as the god of family safety, guidance of industry (agriculture, industry and commerce), protection of the sea, fulfillment of wishes, matchmaking, and smooth childbirth. Moreover, Wude, as the ancestor god of peace and diplomacy, is well-known as the god of victory, traffic safety, and disaster prevention. #2024TravelReview

🛖Sawara Old Town🎋
🛖Sawara Old Town🎋
Little Edo near Tokyo, with much fewer people
In Chiba Prefecture, Kanto Region
.
Sawara Old Town (佐原の町並み), the former Edo merchant district with the Onogawa River
cutting through the middle of the city, which is now part of Koori City
in Chiba Prefecture. The view of wooden buildings on both sides of the river
is an area of original buildings that have been preserved
by the Japanese government. It is open to tourists to visit
. Walk like many old Japanese cities. There is also
the main activity opens to take a paddle boat to see the view on both sides.
.
For those who like the vibe of a Japanese port city similar to
Kurashiki mixed with Kawagoe City, but more traditional
and there are fewer people near Tokyo, I recommend Os

Katori Eel and Fish Restaurant
#November Good Places 2024
Kato Sahara has a long history, so there are many old shops. Deliberately come here to eat the famous dish - eel rice! I found the number one old shop - Yuna Yamada. As soon as the shop opened, I had to queue up and waited for an hour! I really need to go earlier!
I ordered the more special white grilled eel, which is vegetarian grilled, without any added sauce, more can eat the eel itself plump, and the eel flavor will be more prominent, really good food, worth the wait, worth recommending!

Sawara Water Village One Day
#November Good Places 2024
A good place to visit in Chiba! To go to Sawara Water Village. My favorite is that there is a long waterway in the middle of this one water town, which feels very comfortable, and both rooms have many long willow trees, flowing in the wind, a unique view. The puddle still retains many architectural styles, many of which are more than a hundred years old. Even the restaurant has many old shops, which are worth recommending.

A day trip to the water town of Sawara
#November Good Places 2024
There is a treasure attraction in the city of Katori in Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo, in the water town of Sawara, also known as Koedo, where many shops retain the architectural style of the Edo period and have been turned into museums, and many have become restaurants, shops and more. . And in the middle of the two shopping streets is a long waterway, the whole water town style is very characteristic, and there are not too many tourists, so it is very comfortable to walk

Sawara Onogawa One-Day Trip: Recommended Attractions in Chiba
Sawara Station is a historic train station. The JR Narita Line has trains running between Sawara and Narita about once an hour. The infrequent schedule and fewer tourists allowed me to leisurely enjoy the slow-paced life in the water town of Sawara during the summer. It was wonderful!
I highly recommend visiting Onogawa. Besides walking along Onogawa, another way to enjoy it is by taking a sightseeing boat. The cost is ¥1300 per person, and the boat ride lasts about 30 minutes. Each boat has a boatman, and passengers need to wear life jackets. You can enjoy the scenery along both banks of Onogawa and occasionally pass under bridges, where the boatman will remind passengers to duck their heads. It's quite interesting.

[Sawara] A hidden gem in Chiba where you can experience the atmosphere of Little Edo!
Located about 10 minutes from Sawara Station, you can enjoy the scenery as if you had traveled back in time to the Edo period☺️🌿
There are relatively few foreign tourists, and there are many stylish shops such as old-style cafes and renovated cafes!
Among them, the one I particularly recommend is Chaya Kakan Kamikawagishi Bettei. The tonteki here is very delicious, and since it's located along the river, the view is great◎ There are also sofa seats so you can relax𓅯 ⸒⸒
You can also enjoy the townscape while riding a boat🪽
Opening hours: 10:00-16:00
Price: 1,300 yen for adults/700 yen for children (12 and under)
*Please check the website for the latest information.
The boatman will tell you about the charms of the town, so if you want to know more about its history and culture, why not give it a try? 🌱
It's about an hour and a half by car from the city center, so it's recommended for a short day trip or a day off 𓂃𓈒𓏸

Hype
I feel I have eaten much better ramen elsewhere or even at other ichiran branches. All this queuing and hyping up silly things is beyond my understanding. The service is good and fast. However, the booths are small and narrow, quite uncomfortable, coming from a petite person.
The ramen I had in Kobe is soooo much better - rich in broth, more generous in cha siu pork, and cheaper in price. We can say trying it once is enough. The service is okay, not as good as other restaurants we previously visited in Japan. And the environment - tight in seats and definitely not a place to mingle or relax.

### Chiba Sawara: Experience the ancient Edo style
Sawara is located in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It is a small town full of ancient Edo style. This time, I will share my experience in Sawara, including the location introduction, personal impressions, transportation methods, and nearby attractions.
#### Location Introduction
Sawara is located in the northwest of Chiba Prefecture, about an hour and a half drive from Tokyo. The town is famous for its well-preserved Edo-period architecture and style. Walking on the streets of Sawara, it feels like traveling back hundreds of years and you can feel the atmosphere of life in that era.
#### Transportation
From Tokyo Station, you can take the JR Narita Line to Sawara Station and then walk or bike to various attractions. In addition, there are parking lots around Sawara, which is convenient for travelers traveling by car.
#### Nearby Attractions
1. **Sawara Yamato Riverside**: Stroll along the riverside and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery and ancient buildings.
2. **Former Nakayama Family Residence**: This is a well-preserved merchant residence from the Edo period, which provides an in-depth understanding of the living environment and lifestyle of the time.
3. **Sawara Godenji Temple**: This temple is famous for its exquisite wood carvings and quaint architectural style. It is a great place to appreciate traditional Japanese architecture.
#### Personal thoughts
When I stepped into the alleys of Sawara, I was immediately attracted by the quaint and peaceful atmosphere. The buildings on both sides are in the style of the Edo period, and the wooden structures and exquisite carvings are amazing. Walking in such an environment, you can seem to hear the echoes of history and feel the rhythm of people's lives hundreds of years ago.
In addition, the residents of Sawara are very friendly. During the visit, I met several local residents who enthusiastically introduced me to the history and culture of Sawara, which gave me a deeper understanding and knowledge of this small town.
