All Moments About Kanowit
HISTORICAL LANDMARK - FORT EMMA
This fort was firstly built in 1851 and was named after the younger sister of Rajah James Brooke. It was mainly built to defend itself from the attacks of Ibans and Melanau people who lived along the river.
Originally it was mostly made of bamboos which was located in the middle of the town and was destroyed by the Iban Dayaks. It was later restored to current site, which at the mouth of river Kanowit and replaced by belian wood.
The top floor was the residence of the Kanowit District Officer and VIPs, including the Rajah during his brief visit to Kanowit District.
There was also a statue of mermaid aside the fort which is now also a landmark of Kanowit town.
Kanowit Esplanade

There is a jetty for the local community to take the boat back to their home. There are petrol stations at the esplanade for the boats and other transports.
This jetty is a connection for community from their places to come here to do daily activies. The community here make me impressed that they still use a river as their alternative way to go everywhere.
Fort Emma

Newly renovated or constructed Waterfront of Kanowit along with the Preservation of this Historical Kubu Emma of Kanowit.
Really appreciate the conservation projects by the State on this Historical sites. Could be further enhance to be a tourists' attraction. The staff informed they are still doing the research work and gallery then only will display it.
