I visited Sanyoso, which is part of the Prince Hotel chain. It is a historic inn that was originally a villa for the Mitsubishi zaibatsu. Hirukojima is said to be the place where Minamoto no Yoritomo was exiled after being defeated by Taira no Kiyomori in the Heiji Rebellion. Rocky, the mascot dog, welcomes you in front of the main hall. 🐶 This is the first time I've seen a real Akita dog! I didn't know it was so big! It's very well behaved and stays quiet even when you stroke its head. I went to the strawberry specialty store "Ichigo BonBonBERRY Izu no Kuni Factory" at the roadside station Izu no Heso 🍓 The entire store is made of strawberry products! I knew that in 2015, related spots around Japan were registered as World Heritage sites as part of the Meiji Industrial Revolution in Japan, but I didn't know that one of them was in Izu✨ So I went to the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace right away! However, unfortunately the exterior wall was under repair😭 (I think it's finished now) Instead, I was given a clear file with a picture of the exterior. First, I learned about the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace at the museum and saw the real thing. Although most of it was covered with sheets, the remains of the furnace, which are a highlight, were visible. Although it looks shabby overall, I was deeply impressed by how important it was to the development of Meiji Japan. After the tour, I ate eel at a nearby restaurant and went home. Spent a few days exploring the quiet charm of Shuzenji in Izu—and I’m already dreaming of going back! One of the highlights? Zugani Udon (crab udon) at a local spot called Yasubee. Rich, flavorful broth and the unique taste of river crab—it was comfort food on a whole new level. Another must-do: the ropeway up to Panorama Park. The view from the top was absolutely stunning—lush green mountains, endless sky, and that peaceful stillness you can only find in nature. Total soul reset. Honestly, I came to Japan thinking I was too early for cherry blossoms. I was already mentally preparing myself to just enjoy Mount Fuji and eat a lot of ramen. But turns out… I got lucky. The sakura were just starting to bloom — slowly, like they were still waking up from winter. That second photo? It was one of the first trees I saw with tiny pink petals starting to pop, and from there, it just kept getting better. One of my favourite spots was Ao Terrace. If you ever go, here’s a quick tip: head there early in the morning before the crowd shows up, and stand right in front of the pool. That’s how you get the perfect reflection of Mount Fuji on the water — it seriously looks unreal. I checked the weather carefully, but unfortunately I was wearing a hat when I saw Mt. Fuji... I could see Mt. Fuji from the sky bath at New Hakkeien! It's so moving when you can see something you couldn't see before! After that, I met capybaras and alpacas at Rakujuen in Mishima, and went on my favorite babbling walk... The plum garden in Atami was in full bloom and it was amazing! I'm sure it must be hard to maintain, but I'm grateful for the generosity of free admission💗
