We made our inaugural trip to Inner Mongolia in July, which is the best time to visit as the climate is milder then. We arrived in the city of Hohhot, and took a 2h+ drive to Shihua grassland, which is between the city and Baotou. We checked ourselves into one of the many local resorts, whereby we stayed overnight in a modern yurt, which came with airconditioning and a proper bathroom. The resort also provides a wide variety of activities, including house-riding, electric carts and even an amusement park with rides such as bumper cars. The highlight of the stay would be the dinner, whereby we were treated to a whole range of Mongolian cuisine, which largely consisted of lots of lamb and beef. The meats, which were reared locally, were tender and succulent. We ended the night by dancing around a bonfire, under the lights of fireworks. Booked via travel agency in our hotel and going here will cost you 150 rmb that includes the transportation, lunch and insurance but if you want to see more---herdsmen, yurts, horse backriding, equestrian show you have to pay 660 rmb. But if you want just the show then that's only 280 rmb. Overall experience is not that great but amazing thing is that you get to experience their food---the milk with salt and other treats made of milk.

#wecreate Xilamuren Grassland is located id Baotou City. Approxinately 2-3 hours away from Hohhot. We were very excited to experiece sleeping in a traditional yurt for the first time but we were surprised when we arrived at our accommodation. It was a Deluxe Yurt, it was actually like a hotel room. We really enjoyed their welcome party during the night, wr had traditional singing and dancing plus a roasted lamb or goat. Sorry there is no photo coz it was too dark to capture some. There were some horse riding activities with extra fee but you can enjoy watching a horce race and a traditional wresting. My husband who is 6'3 in height was easily thrown and pinned down by a 5'5 guy. The grassland is so massive and the sunrise the next day is such a sight to behold. A 3-night, 4-day trip to Inner Mongolia with a friend. A place we traveled to by bus for 11 hours. It was so far and so tiring, but I think the scenery will be unforgettable. Inner Mongolia is definitely a worthwhile trip. I went during the Labor Day Holiday with a tour group called Joy Tours, so it was easy to get around.  We went to Xilamuren Glasslands and even though the grass was not as green (due to the season), it was still very beautiful and refreshing see so yurts sitting on an endless landscape, blue skies and animals grazing the fields. We were greeted by the Mongolians with a white bowl of white wine (Báijiǔ) which we had to take a sip, and treated to lunch. We watched an equestrian show performed by Mongolians, then later rode a horse (very slowly) on the grasslands. There was a show and bon fire in the evening at our yurt accommodation. One of my favorite moments was being greeted by the millions of stars, and ended up stargazing for the rest of the night. We also visited the Kubuqi Desert which was lovely but very windy, and didn't get a lot of time to experience it. My partner and I then missioned alone to Ordos, and visited the "Ghost City", as well as Genghis Khan Mausoleum. The "Ghost City", to me, did not feel like a ghost city but rather a city that has potential to thrive in the future. The Genghis Khan Mausoleum was absolutely beautiful and his name is clearly still being honored by many. It was very interesting to see how two cultures still co-existed in this area: Chinese and Mongolians, although majority of the population were Chinese. Both languages were used and displayed on every sign. Mongolian culture is very interesting: different, yet has similarities to other cultures. To the grassland, Baotou Damaoqi poetry and painting grassland I didnt get to the beautiful cloud in the evening when I first arrived, and I couldnt catch the most beautiful moment when the yurt was lit at night, and I couldnt catch the fine weather, but I can still imagine the picturesque scenery of the poetry and prairie grassland, and still feel the enthusiasm of the prairie people in the night before the campfire...
