The reason is ~ this is the birthplace of the Catholic saint ~ San Francesco! Tourists visiting Assisi all come to the Basilica di San Francesco! The church was built on a small hill and was listed as a World Cultural Heritage in 2000. The location of this church was actually the place where criminals were executed before the 13th century, so it was also called "Hell Hill".
