Delft, built in 1246, is a small town with a long history. The ancient canals, stone arches, and tranquil countryside are intertwined, and the world square exudes an ancient atmosphere. The inner city is full of waterways and small bridges, and the old buildings are quite similar to the city centre of Amsterdam. Therefore, it is also said that Delft is the epitome of Amsterdam. As night falls, the restaurant on the square, while eating food, feels the beauty of the city.
A magical oasis
The Dutch city of Delft is famous for its pottery and windmills, both of which or worthy reasons alone to visit this delightful city. One of other attraction that can sometimes be overlooked here is the botanical gardens.
The gardens are as tranquil as you might expect and are filled with delights not matter which way you look and what time of the year you visit #magicalxmastrip #flowers #netherlands

Delft, not just ceramics
The charming Dutch city of Delft is most known for its famous blue pottery but those who explore the city will find that it holds much more.
There is plenty to see and do in the city from taken a boat ride around its many canals to strolling through its old town with its famous old church, affectionately known as the leaning tower of Delft. Another attention worth visiting is the last remaining 17th century mill, which you are still able to go inside and climb to the top.

The Magic of Delft
I've never been to Delft so wasn't sure what to expect, but was very pleased with what I found. This quiet and laid back Dutch town has everything you need for the "Dutch Experience" but without the bustle of Amsterdam. Delft is easy to get to on the train from Schipol airport, about an hour and €13 south. It's a very picturesque town full of flowers and canals and with many fine restaurants. It's quiet and safe and even has a big old working windmill. For travellers, a couple of days in Delft, lounging in a coffee shop or walking the pretty streets, finding a French restaurant and a Belgian beer is definitely worth the short trip out of the big city.
Romantic sunset view in Delft
While you visit Rotterdam or The Hague, do not forget about this quaint little town, Delft located mid way between the 2 cities.
We were there at sunset time and totally absorbed in the view!

A blend of History with Modern
#myhiddengems
Originally, Delft was part of my itinerary as a day trip from Amsterdam. It takes less than an hour by train. But you know how Amsterdam can be. So after I finally managed to get out fo Amsterdam and see more. One of those days I was in Hague and looking for day trip ideas. Turns out Delft was even closer. I think I took a tram ride and barely within 30 mins or even less I reached the Delft station. On the way back i took the NS train and it took only 10 minutes.
The weather was nice and as expected Delft is a small city. The sight of canals will continue to welcome you. I had an early start and didn't have breakfast in Hague because part of my plans was to have a Stads-Koffyhuis Dutch breakfast with a coffee.
Alternately you could also get a pastry and coffee at the Uit de Dunst gallery. I headed straight to the historic town. There was an old church before but I decided to skip. After two hours of walking aroune the historic town. It isnt very big. I stopped for lunch. Then explored the market, visited Nieuwe Kerk in Delft. Evening was nicely spent exploring the Beestenmarkt. Then i went for local dinner and finally back to the station for train to Hague.

Royal Delft Factory
#familytrips2024
Our family excursion to the Royal Delft Factory in the Netherlands was a captivating blend of history and craftsmanship. Stepping into the renowned pottery workshop, we were greeted by the sight of skilled artisans meticulously shaping delicate ceramics with precision and care. The kids were fascinated as they observed the intricate process of hand-painting traditional Delft Blue designs, learning about the rich heritage behind each piece. Exploring the museum's collection of historic artifacts and masterpieces provided insights into centuries-old techniques and artistic evolution. It was a cultural immersion that ignited our appreciation for the artistry and tradition of Delftware.
Looking ahead, our next family adventure awaits in the stunning landscapes of Iceland. We'll chase the Northern Lights across dark winter skies, explore dramatic volcanic landscapes, and soak in geothermal hot springs amidst icy landscapes. From epic waterfalls to rugged coastlines, Iceland promises awe-inspiring natural beauty and thrilling outdoor adventures that will create cherished memories for our family.
Days in Delft, The Netherlands.
🇳🇱 The Netherlands is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe.
🇳🇱 Once you come to Delft, you won't want to go back to Taiwan.
♥️ The location is extremely advantageous; it only takes 20 minutes by train to reach the two major tourist cities of The Hague and Rotterdam, rightfully earning its title as the pearl of South Holland.
♥️ The beauty of the small city's canals is something you can never get tired of photographing. The European architectural style is everywhere, with stunning river views, and even the air is exceptionally fresh. The outdoor restaurants in front of the church on the large square offer a leisurely and beautiful experience you can't find in Taiwan.
♥️ Life is convenient and unobstructed, with supermarkets everywhere, fast internet without any issues, and buses or trams that can take you anywhere. If you're in South Holland, you absolutely must not miss Delft!
Delft Blue Pottery | The Jingdezhen of Europe
There is also a beautiful garden at the Royal Delft Blue Pottery Factory.
After admiring the beautiful artworks, head to the small café next to the garden, play with the blue pottery souvenir you just bought, bask in the sun, and daydream, enjoying a pleasant afternoon.
I've always been curious about the 'Jingdezhen of Europe' with its long history, so I took my child on a small (2 to Delft, the hometown of 'Dutch Blue and White Porcelain'.
🚗Transport: It takes 1 hour by train from Amsterdam Central Station. It's even more convenient from Rotterdam or The Hague, and it's recommended to visit Delft when touring these two cities.
You haven't really visited Delft if you haven't been to this museum! It's not that the exhibits are very comprehensive (many more historically valuable ceramics are displayed in other national museums), but as the only remaining ceramic factory in the city that has continued from the 17th century to the present, it can still give you a glimpse into the glorious era of the Dutch ceramic industry.
The most worthwhile thing to see in this museum is its ceramic production line that is still in use today, from mold making to painting, where you can see how a real ceramic factory operates.
Reconnect with nature in Delft

Buyten Delft is an urban farm and educational center located in Delft, Netherlands, outskirts of Delft. This farm is not in our itinerary but the crowd attracted us to walked in. Buyten Delft is free for everyone to visit. It is surrounded by greenery, nature and animals. There are a range of animals inside Buyten Delft such as cows, goats, sheep, rabbits, peacock and more. You will have the opportunity to have close contact with the animals. A lot of parents brought their children there to run around, connect with the nature and interact with the animals.
Opening Hours: 9.30am - 5pm
Address: Korftlaan 3a, 2616 LJ Delft, Netherlands
Reasons to Recommend: Educational center for the children
I want to travel to Hong Kong to explore their animal farm.
Delft Vlooienmarkt - Saturday flea market
#winhkflight #fleamarket #morningmarket #delft #netherlands
Delft Saturday flea market is a popular weekly market held in the city of Delft, Netherlands. Delft is a town located between The Hague and Rotterdam.
Delft Saturday flea market is consider the biggest antique market where you are able to find around 120 stalls spread along the canal that sells wide range of items, such as second hand items, antiques, vintage collectibles, fresh foods, seafoods, bread and more. Visiting the Delft flea market is a great way to explore the city vibrant.
Aside strolling around the flea market, I would recommend you to have you breakfast besides the canal to enjoy the view and vibrance.

The St Petersburg of Holland
We visited here and spent some wonderful minutes taking in the square and looking at the lovely church and city hall.
Since the 12th century, every Thursday there is a big market on the Delft central market square. In the late 14th century, the New Church was built and occupies some of the space, still leaving a very generous 120x45 squared meters of area in place.
The architecture is amazing, particularly that of the new church and town hall.
We explored a little and found the world famous blue heart of Delft for a photo opportunity.
Such stunning buildings, all surviving from the Golden Age of renaissance Delft.
Many restaurants with terraces and souvenir shops are located around the market, most are not tourist traps but with good quality and service.
Things got even better when a local cheese shop offered us free cheese to stay warm in the chilly weather.
There are many porcelain shops but this one is one of the better to shops to get your Delftware porcelain.
Everywhere people are friendly and helpful.
It was a pleasure to take in this gem and walk the cobblestone streets and cross the canals and hear all about the history of Delft.
The marketplace area has a quintessential European atmosphere beautiful with charming aspects.
Definitely worth a visit!

One of the best campuses in the world! 📖🚲
I've been to many campuses in the world, and none of them is as convenient as this one. On top of that, TU Delft's academic level is top notch. 🚲📖

The story of the city of Delft is inseparable from the blue porcelain, one of the six strongholds of the Dutch East India Company in the Netherlands. At the end of the 16th century, the East India Company worked hard to expand the Asian market and brought China's blue and white porcelain back to the Netherlands. I did not expect the Dutch to be fascinated. The Dutch demand for blue porcelain is growing, but China was in civil strife at the time, so the Dutch used their brains to imitate blue and white porcelain. After so many years of development, they have improved their own porcelain products, known as "blue porcelain."
The current Royal Delft has opened a museum to showcase its exquisite blue porcelain. Here you can watch the designer how to make blue porcelain, how the factory burns blue porcelain, and even take part in the painting of a blue porcelain souvenir.
Look carefully at the color of the porcelain. If there is blue and also contains the national color of the Netherlands, it must be used by the royal family.
The souvenir shop here is especially worth a visit. I took a look at the Dutch cartoon character Mi Fei rabbit at a glance and couldn't help but buy it and take it home.
In the seventeenth century, as the East India Company brought many oriental cultures and handicrafts to Europe, porcelain became the heart of the European elite. However, due to limited imports, the Europeans immediately began to imitate the production of porcelain. Delft is the famous capital of porcelain in the Netherlands. The Delft Blue produced here is the high imitation closest to blue and white porcelain, and gradually developed its own unique style. "Royal Delft" is one of the most famous porcelain companies, loved by the Dutch royal family, and has celebrated its 365th birthday this year. In addition to the visit, visitors can also participate in the painting, and bring their own work home. The
Moretta Museum is located in The Hague, a wall from the Prime Ministers Office. Formerly the private residence of the Dutch colonial governor, Moritas, the Dutch collection of famous painters. The treasure of the town hall is a "girl with pearl earrings", and there are many master paintings such as Rubens and Rembrandt. There are two self-portraits of Rembrandt, one is in his early twenties, the first is the coveted year, and his last self-portrait. The years portray traces on the master's face, but his soul is always immortal in the fascinating light and shadow.
The territory of the Netherlands is not much across the country. It is less than 3 hours
so it is only about 15 minutes by train from Rotterdam to Delft
although the capital of each city and country in the Netherlands is the same.
But the construction of the train station corresponding to each city is not sloppy
and the train station in the Netherlands needs to pay for the ticket (Belgium, France and other countries do not need it)
This is also a guarantee for passengers.
