A 10-day trip to Guizhou with my parents.
We used to travel separately. My parents would travel during off-peak seasons, while I would go on outdoor trips during holidays. I would book flights and hotels and plan itineraries for them, and we would set off separately. This year, I was going to see the peach blossoms in Nyingchi, but I was delayed by work. My parents wanted to visit Guizhou, a province I had never been to. I thought about how we had never traveled together, so I planned a trip to "show my parents the world."
Itinerary:
March 26: Fly from Shanghai Hongqiao to Guiyang in the evening
March 27: 6:30 am, Bijie Baili Azalea Scenic Area day tour
March 28: 8 am, pick up the car and head to Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area, visit the area on the same day
March 29: Drive to Qingyan Ancient Town
March 30: 8 am, head to Guiyang North to return the car, take the high-speed train to Tongren at 11 am, take a bus and then a taxi for 2 hours to Jiangkou Town
March 31: 9 am, head to Mount Fanjing, leave luggage at Yunshang
April 1: 9 am, take a bus to Zhenyuan Ancient Town
April 2: 9 am, take a bus to Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village
April 3: 9 am, take a bus to Xiaokong Scenic Area
April 4: 7 am, take a bus to Guiyang, arrive in 4 hours, fly back to Shanghai at 8:55 pm
Summary: Most attractions in Guizhou are free for people over 60, except Yamugou in Tongren. Tickets for popular attractions must be purchased online in advance, and a time slot must be reserved. Buses between attractions are very convenient. The average cost per person for 10 days is about CNY 5,000.
Tips: Libo: 3 hours in the afternoon for a quick tour, stay in the scenic area and visit for 2 hours in the morning, ending at Cuigu Waterfall; Mount Fanjing (3 hours is enough): stay one night at Yunshang. These are the two places I found most comfortable. As for Zhenyuan and Xijiang, you can visit them if you haven't been there before, but I wouldn't consider going again.

Jiudongtian Scenic Area is located at the junction of Nayong and Dafang counties in Guizhou Province. There are nine huge skylights on the ridge of the downstream underground river. When you are boating on the river, the sky appears and disappears from time to time, hence the name "Jiudongtian". The scenic area integrates canyons, karst, and underground rivers, and the scenery is excellent. There are plank roads in Jiudongtian, which can be visited by boat or on foot.

| From Impulse to Action, Explore the Hidden Corners of Guizhou! "Life is full of passion," Fu Hang's words made me decide to turn my longing for Bijie into action. Starting from Guangzhou, I traveled thousands of miles just to explore the mysterious veil of this niche tourist city.
🚗【Transportation】 Departing from Guangzhou South, we took a high-speed train directly to Bijie. For a 6-hour journey, we chose to rent a car and drive ourselves, because the beauty of Bijie is worth exploring slowly.
🏞️【Itinerary】 On the first day, we went straight to Ertaipo. Although the sunset was blocked by clouds, the magnificent clouds and the afterglow of the sunset also made us feel satisfied.
On the second day, the sunrise at Jiucaiping made us feel as if we were in the fantasy world of Zelda. Although the water volume of Diaoshuyan Waterfall was insufficient, the stalactites and underground rivers of Jiudongtian were still amazing.
On the third day, the terraced fields of Shexiang Ancient Town and the history of Xuanwei Mansion gave us a deeper understanding of this land.

🏯Guizhou Xuanwei Mansion is the official residence where Guizhou Xuanwei Envoy Ai Cui and Madam Shexiang, along with their descendants, handled governmental affairs.
📜Historical Background: According to historical records, during the Shu Han period, the ancestor of the Shui Xi Yi ethnic chieftain, Jiji Huo, who lived in Min (present-day Dongchuan, Yunnan), was conferred the title of 'King of Luodian' for his contributions in assisting Zhuge Liang's southern expedition. In the third year of the Taiqing period of the Southern Liang Dynasty (549), the twentieth generation of Jihuo's Min branch expanded northeast from Min (present-day Dongchuan, Yunnan) to the areas of present-day Shuicheng, Dafang, and Qianxi, and was known as the Lulubu. During the Song Dynasty's Huangyou period, it was called the 'Ghost Kingdom of the Luo Clan.' The Yuan Dynasty established the Tusi system, with its administrative center in present-day Guiyang, dividing 'Shuixi' and 'Shuidong' for separate governance along the Yachi River. The Ming Dynasty established the 'Guizhou Xuanwei Department (administered in present-day Guiyang),' with the An family inheriting the title of Xuanwei Envoy and the Song family inheriting the title of Xuanwei Assistant. Each Xuanwei had its own jurisdiction. The An family's jurisdiction roughly corresponded to the northwestern part of present-day Guizhou Province, west of Xiuwen, north of Puding, east of Shuicheng, and south of Dafang. Since most of it was west of the Yachi River, it was commonly known as Shuixi. In the third year of the Chongzhen period (1630), the areas east of the Yachi River were removed and set up as garrisons, limiting the jurisdiction to Shuixi. In the fifteenth year of the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (1658), it was renamed Shuixi Xuanwei Envoy, and during the Kangxi period, the title was discontinued due to the lack of heirs.
✅Overview of the Attraction: The entire mansion is divided into 'one plaza, eight courtyards, and nine tiers.' The reconstructed Luodian King's Mansion is backed by Yunlong Mountain and faces Luositang, oriented from northeast to southwest. It adopts a symmetrical layout along the central axis, with the 'nine tiers and eight courtyards' ascending in levels, progressing step by step. From a bird's-eye view, it is small at both ends and large in the middle, resembling an abstract tiger's head, symbolizing the leap of a tiger and the soar of a dragon.
🔁Route: Follow the central axis upwards to visit each tier in sequence. The nine large halls and nine tiers of offices are arranged in order. Their functions are as follows: the first tier is the main hall entrance and the royal guard department, the second tier is the weapon storage room, the third tier is the residence for the royal servants, the fourth tier is the accounting room, the fifth tier is the reception hall, the sixth tier is the conference hall, the seventh tier is the prime minister's hall, the eighth tier is the royal hall, and the ninth tier is the dance hall and the royal ancestral shrine.

Bijie Yuexiu Marriott Fairfield Hotel
2024 Marriott Silver Elite Retention Journey - No.15 Bijie Fairfield || Redeemed in advance with 24,000 points, which felt quite cost-effective as the points value increased later. If booked with cash, it would be worth around 1000 yuan per 10,000 points. However, since this is a Fairfield, the off-season price of over 400 yuan and the peak season price of over 700 yuan still feel a bit high. Guizhou is now considered a desert for Marriott properties, and sometimes the prices of Guiyang's Guanshanhu Fairfield and Renaissance are surprisingly similar, which also surprised me.
The hotel is next to the Baili Dujuan Scenic Area in Bijie, only about two kilometers from the West Gate Visitor Center. The attractions in Bijie are quite scattered, so it's not very convenient if you're not driving. It's said that many people come here to escape the summer heat.
The hotel parking lot is not very large and has charging stations, but the price is a bit high at 1.88 yuan per kWh. The pool just opened on May 1st, and we caught the first wave. The water temperature was quite high on the first day, but it dropped a bit in the following days. The pool has both deep and shallow areas, with the shallow side suitable for children. The gym is not large. Additionally, the hotel has a self-service laundry room, which is quite rare among Marriott properties.
The breakfast restaurant staff are very friendly, always greeting with a smile. When there's a queue at the coffee machine, they let guests return to their seats and bring the coffee over, which is commendable service. Special mention to Manager Zhang from the F&B department, a female with an excellent service attitude, leaving a deep impression. Breakfast includes 4-5 types of bread and pastries, salad, boxed yogurt, three kinds of fruit cuts, 4-5 hot dishes, fried dough sticks, pan-fried dumplings, two types of porridge, and freshly cooked noodles. The noodle station only has two toppings: pickled beans with minced meat and tomato egg.
The breakfast restaurant also offers à la carte dishes for lunch and dinner, with a few unique dishes. Since we stayed here for a few days, we specifically chose a day to try it. The Chinese restaurant on the second floor requires a reservation; you can't eat there without one.
The hotel is centrally located in the Baili Dujuan Management Area, with residential areas, commercial streets, and supermarkets nearby, so there's no worry about finding food. It's also not far from the highway entrance, making it convenient to visit other scenic spots.
Our room was upgraded to a suite, which was quite lucky during the May Day period. The hotel said there are only four suites. The suite is spacious, with a bathtub and a large living room sofa. The only downside is that there's only one bathroom, and it's not a smart toilet. Besides the coffee table, there's no other table, making it inconvenient to eat in the room.
Bijie is a nice place with good air quality. On the last day, the weather cleared up, and I saw many stars at night. It's been years since I saw the Big Dipper. Looking forward to coming back once the hot springs open.

Zhigaalu Lake, originally named Shuixi Lake, is located at the junction of Qianxi City in Bijie, southwest of Dafang and Zhijin counties, extending westward to Nayong County. The waters here are vast, the lake water is clear, the reflections are serene and beautiful, and the scenery is tranquil and picturesque. When the sunlight shines on the lake surface, it sparkles with a dazzling array of colors. The distant mountains reflect in the lake, creating a charming interplay of scenery. In the narrow parts of the water area, the peaks on both sides are steep and the rocks are rugged, making it a beautiful blue gem embedded in the Wumeng Plateau.

Escape from the city to Jiudongtian
Located in Bijie, Guizhou, it's a niche tourist spot. Before coming, I heard the road was not good, and I was a bit worried, but it turned out to be fine. No pressure driving by myself!
🚗 Departing from Chengdu, it takes 2:30 hours by high-speed train to reach Bijie, then rent a car and drive directly to the destination.
🏠 Jiudongtian Homestay (Cherry Courtyard) has a nice mountain view, and the bean and rice hotpot is delicious.
The next morning, we started an immersive mountain tour experience, haha.
I recommend entering from the west gate, climbing up the mountain, and then taking a boat back to the west gate. You can enjoy both the mountain and cave scenery .

I originally thought that the 'hundred miles' in Bai Li Du Juan was an exaggeration
Before coming here, I assumed there would be at most 3-5 hills, so I just wore a pair of leather shoes for sightseeing. As a result, I walked 16,000 steps in one day, and my feet were numb. I was too hasty.
After leaving the scenic area, I checked and found out that the total area of Bai Li Du Juan is actually 125.8 square kilometers. It really is 'hundred miles' of Du Juan.
I have to say, the people of Bijie are really honest when it comes to naming...
ps. The view is truly magnificent, but I wouldn't dare to wear leather shoes next time I come.
Another ps. When we were leaving the scenic area, several children were crying loudly with their parents, all saying they were too tired to walk anymore. I advise everyone who wants to come to really consider their physical strength. If you need to, just queue for the sightseeing bus.

Bijie Jiudongtian, this is a treasure destination in Guizhou that has not been discovered by everyone
Jiudongtian Scenic Spot is located at the intersection of Nayong and Dafang counties in Guizhou Province, like a dazzling pearl inlaid on the earth. Liuchong River, this winding river, crosses the two counties from west to east, bringing the tranquility of the upper reaches and the spectacular of the lower reaches. Here, it dives underground to form a mysterious underground river called Guazhong River, which is seven kilometers long, as if it is the pulse of the earth, flowing quietly.
Downstream of the underground river, on top of the mountain ridges, nine huge natural skylights look like the eyes of nature, watching over this land. As we boat on the river, the sky sometimes smiles through the skylights, and sometimes hides between the rock walls, like a shy girl. Hence, the name 'Jiudongtian' which means 'Nine Cave Heavens', is full of endless mystery and charm.

Arriving at Bijie at the tail end of the azalea season, the Hundred Miles of Azaleas scenic area is still packed with people. This trip was entirely by public transport, but the connections were orderly; Bijie is really worth a visit!
Transportation:
Hangzhou-Bijie: Direct flight from Hangzhou to Bijie, landing at Bijie Feixiong Airport. 2 Bijie Airport-Hundred Miles of Azaleas Scenic Area: Take a rideshare directly from the airport to the Hundred Miles of Azaleas Scenic Area Visitor Center, then transfer to a scenic area bus to the azalea core area.
3 Hundred Miles of Azaleas-Zhijin Cave: Take a direct bus from the Hundred Miles of Azaleas scenic area to Qianxi City, stay overnight, then take a bus from Qianxi Bus Station to Zhijin, and get off at Zhijin Cave for a visit.
Zhijin Cave-Zhijin County Town: The bus is very convenient, or you can take a taxi.

Bai Li Du Juan in Guizhou - One Day Tour in Dafang County
👎Least recommended: The scenic spot can't be fully enjoyed in one day.
Have breakfast at a random beef noodle shop on the Welcome Avenue next to the hotel, just average.
🚉Travel tips: Walk to She Xiang Park, a two-stop journey, the gate is a bit antique, and there are elderly people exercising everywhere.
Go to She Xiang Town by taxi or ride-hailing. Sometimes the taxi is a shared ride, less than 5 yuan. A ride to the town costs about 10 yuan,
🌟Highlight: The fingerprint of the earth (see picture)
Since there are children, the tadpoles in the shallow water of the town are more attractive. It is said that the light show at night is better, but for an artificial town, it really doesn't pique my interest, just walk around and take a stroll.
🌟Highlight: Take a taxi to the She Xiang Museum, which is the most historical place. Just in time for a guided tour, saw things I wouldn't have noticed on my own.
A few hundred meters from the museum is the She Xiang office place - the Xuanwei Mansion. Built next to a pond with snails (called Screw Lake) The name of the lake has no poetry, but the trees planted are nice, replanted during the restoration.
It was the official residence of the Guizhou Xuanwei Envoy Ai Cui and Lady She Xiang and their descendants for handling government affairs. The history can be traced back to the Shu Han period, when it was called the Luodian King's Mansion, and in the Ming Dynasty, it was known as the Guizhou Xuanwei Mansion.
The tour guide was too busy, so I listened to the WeChat guide. Amazingly, there is a nine-layered palace gate, with a replica of the Forbidden City style in front, not sure if it's authentic or added during restoration. Took about an hour to slowly come out.
Found a restaurant on the antique street, 35 yuan per person for a buffet hotpot, checked out and headed to the high-speed rail station to start the trip to Guiyang.
Regret: Didn't go to Bai Li Du Juan as planned, there should be buses at the county bus station, cheaper than the direct bus, but I was too tired from walking earlier, so it was optional. Will go tomorrow, need to stay in Bai Li Du Juan for 2 days to do it justice.
