Cradle Mountain Beauty
the amazingly beautiful cradle mountain! so beautiful even during the raining days! definitely a re-boosting hiking and memorial experience for life.
immersing into the true nature and have fun with photo shooting, with this scene, cannot have bad photos!!
featuring the little water fisherman house, the lake, the mountain, the fog (because of the raining day!), the green and the nature who made it all!!
The Dove Lake Circuit Hiking Route
Dove Lake is a very popular tourists attraction in tasmania located at near cradle mountain, one of tasmania iconic mountains.
Dove lake has a hike that is a loop where it is a 2.5 - 3 hours circuit route that takes you around the lake that allows you to take different angle of this calm smooth reflective lake. During the walk around the circuit there are also several view points for you, where it overlooks the lake with the gorgeous breathtaking backdrops of the mountains surrounding the lake.
This is an easy hike with some gradual upslope and downslope, nothing too difficult. But if you do not want to walk the entire lake, from the car park, just walk down towards the lake which will only take you less than 10mins and you will be able to have a view of the amazing Dove lake.
Do go early, as the carpark gets filled up really fast and tour buses will also start coming in later in the day.

Peace and Tranquillity at Cradle Mountain
Getting There - Cradle Mountain National Park Tasmania Australia
Attractions - Hiking and tourist centre
Hotels - several available nearby
Lots of walking track options to meet all fitness levels. We walked around the lake just a shame the cloud were not on our side. The cradle was not visible for most of the hike but the rest of the scenery was stunning.

Hitchhiking in Tasmania
Between hiking in the cold at 7am for 2hours and hitchhiking for a 15mins ride - the choice was clear.
We woke up at the break of dawn for a quick breakfast and coffee. The car park was empty and only had a couple of campervans parked overnight here. With our bodies still stiff and cold, we started on our hike to Cradle Mountain only to realise that the journey was longer than expected. We made a quick decision to hitch a ride in to the Overland Track of Cradle Mountain instead of continue walking in the cold. Got rejected a few times but didn't give up. We finally succeeded with a kind hearted couple from Queensland who were also intending to hike to the summit of Cradle Mountain.

Trek to the foot of Cradle Mountain, Tasmania
The journey to Cradle Mountain typically starts from Ronny Creek car park, where there is a registration booth for all visitors to sign in.
Take the Overland Track to get to Crater Falls. The bushwalking track is very well maintained. There is a platform which is raised to keep visitors away from the mud and grass. It is even lined with anti slip chains for the cold winter mornings. Platform is quite narrow though, and good for walking in single file only. The terrain is mostly flat with occasional steps, which makes for an easy walk. It took me about 1.5hr to get to Crater Falls. You might spot some cute wombats along the way if you are lucky!

Wombat Spotting Under Cradle Mountain: A Wildlife Adventure!
Cradle Mountain isn’t just famous for its stunning landscapes and epic hikes—it's also one of the best places in Tasmania to catch a glimpse of the adorable and iconic wombat! These furry, chunky marsupials are a highlight for any wildlife enthusiast, and spotting them in their natural habitat is a memorable experience. With a bit of patience, good timing, and the right location, you can enjoy an unforgettable wombat encounter during your visit to Cradle Mountain.
### **When to Spot Wombats**
Wombats are most active during the cooler parts of the day, particularly **early mornings** and **late afternoons**, just before dusk. However, they are nocturnal creatures, so evening is often the best time to spot them grazing. For the best chances, aim to be out between **4 PM and 7 PM**, when they emerge to feed on the grassy plains.
### **Where to Find Wombats**
One of the top spots to see wombats at Cradle Mountain is the **Ronny Creek area**, right at the beginning of the Overland Track. The wide, open plains provide an ideal setting for wombats to graze, and you’ll often spot them munching away, completely unfazed by human presence. Another good location is **around Dove Lake**, where wombats are sometimes seen along the walking trails.
### **Tips for Spotting Wombats**
- **Be Quiet and Patient**: Wombats are shy creatures, so it’s important to approach quietly and give them plenty of space. Stay on the marked trails and avoid making loud noises, which can scare them away.
- **Bring a Camera with Zoom**: While wombats may not mind people observing them from a distance, it's best not to get too close. Use a camera with a zoom lens to capture some great shots without disturbing them.
- **Time Your Visit**: Aim for **autumn or winter months**, as wombats tend to be more active during the cooler weather. Plus, the cooler temperatures provide a more comfortable experience for your wombat-spotting adventure!
- **Stay at Cradle Mountain Lodge**: Staying overnight at one of the lodges near Cradle Mountain, such as Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge, increases your chances of spotting wombats during the early morning or evening hours.
- **Dress Warm**: It can get quite chilly in the evenings, so bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket just in case. Tasmania’s weather can be unpredictable, even in the warmer months!
### **Fun Facts About Wombats**
- Wombats are known for their **square-shaped poop**, which helps mark their territory.
- They have powerful claws that allow them to dig extensive burrow systems.
- Despite their stocky build, wombats can run up to **40 km/h** when threatened!
Whether you're an animal lover or just looking to get up close with Tasmania's unique wildlife, wombat spotting at Cradle Mountain is an experience you won't want to miss. Watching these endearing creatures roam freely in the wild is a true highlight of any visit to this incredible part of Tasmania.

One of the most popular and family-friendly hikes, the Dove Lake Circuit is a 6km trail that takes around 2 hours to complete. This easy hike winds around the tranquil Dove Lake, offering panoramic views of Cradle Mountain and the surrounding area. It’s perfect for those who want a scenic walk without too much exertion.
2. **Marion's Lookout**
For those looking for a more challenging hike, Marion’s Lookout offers an incredible viewpoint over Dove Lake and Cradle Mountain. The hike is about 3-4 hours round trip, and the last section is quite steep, but the effort is definitely worth it. Be prepared to climb with the help of chains!
3. **Cradle Summit**
If you're up for a true adventure, the Cradle Mountain Summit Hike is a full-day challenge (around 7-8 hours). The trail is rocky and steep, but reaching the summit is an unforgettable experience. The 360-degree views from the top are simply breathtaking, and you'll feel like you're on top of the world.
### **Tips for Visiting Cradle Mountain**
- **Plan Ahead**: Weather in this area can change rapidly, so always check the forecast before heading out. Bring appropriate gear, including layers, a waterproof jacket, and plenty of water and snacks.
- **Get the Park Pass**: Visitors need a National Parks Pass to access the park. You can purchase it online or at the visitor center.
- **Wildlife Encounters**: Keep an eye out for wombats, wallabies, and Tasmanian devils. Early morning or late afternoon is the best time for wildlife sightings.
- **Guided Tours**: If you’re not confident hiking alone, there are plenty of guided tours available that offer valuable insights into the area's history and ecology.
- **Stay Overnight**: Consider staying in one of the nearby lodges or campgrounds to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Cradle Mountain.

Tasmania Island Tour Day Two Guide
Tasmania Island Tour Day Two Guide: Mural Town - Cradle Mountain Park
We set off from LOW HEAD in the early morning, passing through Mural Town on our way to Cradle Mountain Park. The first half of the journey was scenic and easy to drive, and we arrived at Mural Town in an hour and a half. We didn't specifically look for the painting by Eason Chan here, but just wandered around, enjoying the clean, beautiful and quiet town.
The second half of the journey from Mural Town to Cradle Mountain was difficult, with many winding mountain roads. We drove carefully and arrived at the Cradle Mountain Visitor Center after an hour. We bought a ticket for 60 Australian dollars for everyone in the car, which allows all passengers in the car to visit Tasmania Island National Park within eight weeks. The price is really cost-effective.
After buying the tickets, we took the eco-car and got off at the third stop, Ronny Creek, ready to take the nearest hiking route to Dove Lake. The map introduction said it would take half an hour, but we took the wrong way and walked an extra hour. Along the way, we accidentally entered a path without steps up the mountain, and saw Dove Lake from halfway up the mountain. The scenery was beautiful.
