2026 Chicago Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in January)
Essential Travel Information for Chicago
What do you want from an unforgettable city vacation? Iconic monuments, diverse culture, exciting food scene, serious shopping, all wrapped up in a beautiful setting? Chicago has it all and more.Chicago is ranked as the third-largest metropolitan area in the United States and the most populous city in the Midwestern. This city by the lake, also known as the windy city, is situated in the Great Lakes region of northeastern Illinois. Beyond the City of Chicago, the greater Chicagoland area extends into the neighboring states of Wisconsin and Indiana. The windy city is also culturally diverse with approximately 2.7 million residents. There are 50 districts or 77 designated community areas in the City of Chicago, the Loop is the central business district and home to the tallest skyscrapers, top attractions, and shopping areas.Situated near the southern tip of Lake Michigan, Chicago started as a small trading post at the mouth of the Chicago River. Its ideal geographical location made it a vital link in the great waterway, and later on, with the expansion of railways, Chicago was transformed into the country’s railway hub. The rise of the city was not all smooth sailing, as in the Great Fire of 1871 about one-third of Chicago was destroyed. But it rose from the ashes like a phoenix and made itself a global center for finance, commerce, industry, transportation, and tourism.Chicago boasts a diverse variety of tourist attractions, for example, every year tens of thousands of visitors come to the city just to marvel at its impressive and iconic buildings in postmodernist and gothic revival architectural styles. But it is not just the architecture that attracts people to the city by the lake. There are endless unique and fun experiences to be had here, such as enjoying the classic rides at Navy Pier, overcoming your vertigo at 360 Chicago Observation Deck, getting to know the urban art scene on a street art tour, and soaking in the sun and skyline on a cruise. If after all that excitement you want to escape to nature, Garfield Park Conservatory, Chicago Botanic Garden, and the Morton Arboretum are your best bet.

The World's Largest 5-Story Starbucks Reserve in Chicago
Starbucks Reserve is a unique, experiential Starbucks concept that also serves as a roastery, with only six locations worldwide across four countries (USA, China, Italy, and Japan).
Located in downtown Chicago, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery here is the largest in the world! 😳
The five-story interior features an open atrium with a central spiral escalator that leaves visitors in awe. You can move to the upper floors while watching the roasting machines and coffee beans flowing through pipes, making it feel like an attraction. ✨
Each floor offers a different experience, including a café serving freshly roasted coffee, a bakery with an array of pastries, a tea specialty area, and even a cocktail bar to enjoy in the evening. Every visit offers a new way to enjoy the space.
We took the opportunity to try some coffee along with pizza and pastries inside the store, and they exceeded our expectations in taste!
If you're traveling to Chicago, why not experience a Starbucks that's a little different from the usual? ☺️
🌳 Washington Park – A South Side Gem of Greenery 🌼🏞️

Located on Chicago’s South Side, Washington Park is one of the city’s largest historic parks and a peaceful retreat filled with natural beauty and cultural significance. Designed in the 1870s by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, the park offers a blend of open meadows, tree-lined paths, and serene lagoons.
It’s a perfect spot for jogging, biking, birdwatching, or simply relaxing amidst nature. Rising gracefully above the Magnificent Mile, the John Hancock Center (officially known as 875 North Michigan Avenue) is one of Chicago’s most striking skyscrapers. Completed in 1969, its sleek X-braced design makes it an architectural icon, while its location offers unbeatable city and lake views.
The tower’s highlight is 360 CHICAGO Observation Deck on the 94th floor, where you can see sweeping panoramas of the skyline, Lake Michigan, and beyond. For adrenaline seekers, the TILT attraction literally tilts you outward from the building’s glass walls for a thrilling new perspective of the city.

☕️ Chicago Starbucks Reserve Rostery
Starbucks, a coffee brand beloved by people around the world, operates six Starbucks Reserve Rostery locations around the world. I've already visited the Shanghai and Milan Starbucks Reserve Roasteries, and since those were such great experiences, I decided to visit the Chicago location as well. I was really looking forward to seeing what the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in the US, the birthplace of Starbucks coffee, would be like, and I was curious because it's the largest of the six worldwide.
The first floor featured a coffee bar and various Starbucks merchandise. Collectors of Starbucks city cups and Roastery goods will enjoy browsing through the store. I don't collect them myself, so I headed straight to the second floor.
I ordered the highly recommended Whiskey Barrel Aged Coffee and a breakfast croissant from the Chicago Starbucks Reserve Roastery. The croissant was, frankly, average, but the Whiskey Barrel Aged Coffee had incredible flavor. The subtle vanilla notes complemented the coffee perfectly, and I was pleasantly surprised by the clean aftertaste. This is a coffee I definitely want to try again next time I'm in Chicago.
After breakfast with coffee and a croissant, I explored the Starbucks building. On the fourth floor, you can also order various coffee-infused cocktails.
If you're traveling to Chicago, be sure to experience a special coffee experience at the iconic Starbucks Reserve Roastery.
🇺🇸 Chicago, USA Travel: Chicago Hot Dogs Are Here ♥️

🇺🇸 Chicago, Illinois, USA
🌭 Portillo's Hot Dogs
I'm introducing Portillo's Hot Dogs, a Chicago restaurant I visited while traveling in Chicago, Illinois. I heard they serve traditional Chicago hot dogs, so I went there.
I ordered a Chicago-style hot dog, onion rings, and a large soda, which cost $14.16. A Chicago-style hot dog is a sausage sandwiched between a moist bun, topped with thinly sliced onions, tomatoes, and pickles. The whole pickle kept it refreshing and filling until the end. The onion rings I ordered as a side were also fantastic. The batter was crispy and savory, and the onions inside were savory and tender. The perfect balance of ingredients made the hot dog a truly satisfying meal. I was really hungry, but since the hot dog portion was small, I ordered a large onion ring and it was a great choice. The soda was only $0.30 more expensive than the small, so I ordered a large, but it was so filling I couldn't even finish a fifth.
In addition to the Chicago-style hot dog, you can also choose from Italian-style hot dogs and salads. There's plenty of indoor seating, as well as outdoor seating. I went in late August, and the weather was so nice that I ended up eating outside.
How about Portillo's Hot Dogs for a traditional Chicago-style hot dog? Haha
