During my summer trip to Bangkok, I had the chance to visit the Chatuchak Weekend Market, and it was an experience I’ll never forget! Located in the northern part of the city, this market is absolutely massive—one of the largest in the world, with over 15,000 stalls spread across 35 acres. The sheer size of it is overwhelming in the best way possible. Whether you're into fashion, home decor, art, or just delicious street food, you'll find something that catches your eye.
There’s no entrance fee, so you can freely wander around, but bring cash because the temptation to buy is real! I ended up with a few handmade souvenirs, some trendy clothes, and enough street food to last me the entire day. The coconut ice cream is a must-try, especially in the Bangkok heat!
Getting there is easy, with the Mo Chit BTS station just a short walk away. After a day of shopping, you can unwind at nearby Chatuchak Park or head to the nearby JJ Mall if you want a more air-conditioned shopping experience.
Chatuchak Weekend Market is a vibrant, chaotic, and utterly fascinating slice of Bangkok that you can't miss. Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes—you’ll be doing a lot of walking!

Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok
Visiting the grand Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok is a must, and personally, I feel there's no need for a specific strategy. Simply wandering around at leisure seems more relaxing. Once you step into the market, with its narrow alleys and the throng of people coming and going, it's easy to lose any sense of direction anyway.
It's known as the largest outdoor market in Southeast Asia, covering 140,000 square meters with over 15,000 stalls. It's estimated that up to several hundred thousand people visit daily, including tourists from all over the world and locals. It's a must-visit destination for treasure hunting and shopping when in Bangkok!
As lunchtime approaches, the food area and surrounding stalls, offering coconut ice cream, fresh fruit, Thai milk tea, Thai fried noodles, banana pancakes, barbecue, etc., see long queues of waiting visitors. I chose a small Thai food stall, sat under a not-so-spacious awning, sweat dripping down, ordered rice noodle soup and stir-fried greens, and had a chilled fruit juice to cool off. After eating, I was sweating profusely, but a cold coconut water made me feel refreshed and comfortable.
The variety of goods here is incredibly diverse, ranging from clothing accessories, shoes and hats, fragrances, kitchenware, household goods, stationery, bags, soaps, artistic lighting, handmade jewelry, souvenirs, etc., many of which are fashionable and aesthetically pleasing. Items like colorful flip-flops and cotton T-shirts with creative designs are particularly popular among the youth.
After walking around the whole market, I still hadn't seen everything. If you find something you like, I think it's best to buy it right away. It's inevitable to compare prices, but if the quality and price are acceptable, don't miss out.
🔖Tips:
1. Thailand's weather is hot; remember to apply sunscreen and drink plenty of water.
2. The entire weekend market is a non-smoking area (including outdoors), with a fine of 2000 Thai Baht.
3. Always keep an eye on your valuables.
4. You can ask the staff at the entrance for a map of the market.
📍Address:
Thailand Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, Bangkok, Kamphaeng Phet 3 Rd, 10900
⏰Business Hours:
Saturday and Sunday 08:30~22:00 (Some stalls are open on weekdays, but it feels quite different)

2. Take the MRT to Chatuchak Park station, exit 1 and walk for about 3-4 minutes. If you get off at Kamphaeng Phet station, take exit 2 and walk for about 2-3 minutes.

What to Eat in Chatuchak Market?
Chatuchak Market is the largest market in all of Thailand and possibly in the entire world. There are so many stalls and restaurants in Chatuchak Weekend Market, it is hard to decide what’s good. The popular ones are Coconut Ice Cream at Coco JJ, Thai Tea, Honey Roast Pork at Moo Yang Name Peung, Chocolate Frozen Banana, Mango Sticky Rice (my favourite), Tub Tim Grob at Tub Tim Grob Shop (sweetened coconut milk and shaved ice mixed with jellied coconut fresh, water chestnut and crunchy red rubies), Seafood Balls, Grilled Meat and Seafood, Fried Octopus at King Octopus, Spicy Mango Salad, Pork Noodles, Duck Noodles and more. It could be very hot and busy in the mid-afternoon. It is advisable to go in the morning. Most visitors give themselves at least a few hours and up to a full day to wander and shop. Seeing the entire market in a day would be an exhausting endeavour. After all, a great place to visit in Bangkok among locals and tourists.

It covers an area of about 15 standard football fields) and is divided into 27 areas with about 15,000 shops, ranging from clothing, children's clothing, accessories, miscellaneous goods to home furnishings. Most people would head to Chatuchak Weekend Market on early Sunday morning after their breakfast to walk! The market is so huge that you can easily spend at least 2 to 3 hours here alone! They not only sell a range of clothes and bags, food, drinks stall and snacks are also sold here as well. It does get pretty hot and warm due to lack of tree at the market but there are shelters along the way. Behind the market also sells alot of interesting wooden home decorations items and new, preloved books too. It was quite a joy to see it as well. Do keep yourself hydrate if you plan to come here.

Chatuchak BKK
Walking through Chatuchak Market that evening was really exciting. The market was full of people from different places, both Thai and foreign, all enjoying the busy atmosphere. The streets were lined with shops selling clothes, home decorations, and tasty street food with wonderful smells.
As I kept walking, I noticed colorful ribbons hanging above the street, moving gently in the wind. The bright colors against the blue sky made the place feel even more fun and happy.
After a while, I saw a sign held up high that showed different massage services. The prices and details were easy to read, offering foot massages, head massages, and traditional Thai massages. I thought it would be so relaxing to get a massage after walking around the market for so long.
What I loved most about Chatuchak was the lively and colorful atmosphere. Walking through the market wasn’t just about shopping; it was a chance to experience Thai culture in a special way. The energy, the variety of people, and the unique charm of the market made my visit unforgettable.

Your senses go into overdrive – the smells of food, the colours of everything, the constant chatter. You could spend hours just wandering around and discovering new things. There's something for everyone, from clothes and souvenirs to plants and pets. I mean, where else can you buy a fish and a pair of pants in the same place? It's total chaos, but it's so much fun.

✨Getting to Chatuchak Market-Bangkok✨
Getting to Bangkok’s Chatuchak Market is quite easy on public transport. You can come by taxi but this would likely be the slowest and most expensive option. The subway and Skytrain options are best, and both have stations very close to the market.
Coming to Chatuchak by Skytrain (BTS) you should get off at Mo Chit Station and exit the station by exit number 1. From here just follow the crowds to the market entrance.
On the Subway (MRT), travel to Chatuchak Park Station and as above, take exit number 1 and follow the crowds. From this station you’ll be entering Chatuchak Market via the clothing section, but if you prefer to enter via the plant and flower section you should get off the subway at Kampheng Phet MRT Station and take exit 1.
- Chatuchak Market Opening Hours
Don’t let the name fool you – this may be Chatuchak Weekend Market but there are some sections of the market open on weekdays too. Having said this, the huge market that sells everything under the sun is only open on weekends. The official Chatuchak Market opening hours are as follows:
Wednesday and Thursday – Plants and Flowers only – 6:00am to 6:00pm
Friday – Wholesale Day – 6:00am to 6:00pm
Saturday and Sunday – Main market days, everything available – 6:00am to 6:00pm
You’re advised to get to the market in the morning to avoid some of the crowds and the heat that mounts up across the day, however, many stalls do not open until after 8am or even 9am so you may not want to plan your arrival until 9am anyway.

Hidden Gem in Chatuchak Market

Strolling through Chatuchak Weekend Market during Songkran infused us with a joyful festive vibe, as vendors gleefully engaged customers in playful water gun fights and gentle sprinkling. The cool splashes provided a much-needed respite from the sweltering summer heat, rejuvenating our spirits as we navigated the bustling alleys. Seeking refuge from the heat, we stumbled upon 168, a quaint Thai restaurant nestled in the Fashion section of Chatuchak Market.
Despite the lunchtime crowd, we were fortunate to secure a table and promptly ordered the Tom Yum Kung with rice, along with an omelet and Green Curry. The Tom Yum soup greeted our taste buds with its luxuriously thick texture and an explosion of fresh spices - a culinary delight surpassing any we had previously encountered. Each dish was elegantly presented in traditional Thai style, complementing the warm hospitality of the staff.
For anyone exploring Chatuchak, this hidden culinary gem is an absolute must-try.
