Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi
Chandni Chowk, a major street in Old Delhi. Known as local market that sell variety of products like sarees, authentic Indian food, delicacies and sweets. It was featured in a Bollywood movie called Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham.
To visit this area, we pay a guide so he’ll able to bring us around with his bike, I personally think it’s much more convenient that way as we were unsure of the area ourselves and with a guide, we also able to know a bit of background of some places.

A Feast of Spices and Delicacies: Chandni Chowk in Delhi.
🎉"Foodies, assemble!" Today, I'm going to share with you an amazing experience I had in Delhi—the street food tour in Chandni Chowk! If you're also a fan of exploring local flavors and snack culture, then follow me on a taste bud adventure!
📍 Address: Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi, Delhi 110006, India 🇮🇳
⏰ Visit Time: It is recommended to go in the afternoon or evening to avoid the hottest time of the day and enjoy more types of snacks. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, because this is a paradise for walkers!
🌟 This was our first trip to India, and it was a great idea to try street food on this trip! Ranveer greeted us at the subway entrance, and then we joined a small team of 7 people. At first, I was worried that trying up to 13 kinds of food would be too much, but later I found that we could choose to share and taste at each stop, and if we particularly liked something, we could ask for another one. Everyone was very satisfied with the whole trip. Ranveer not only knew the production process of each dish, but also explained it to us in detail, and his pace of leading us through the crowd was just right.
💡 Remind you of two things: First, if you plan to visit the spice market and go up the famous chili stairs, be sure to turn on the flashlight on your phone, because it's really dark there; second, for friends with asthma, the dust in the spice market may cause discomfort—I sneezed a lot myself!
😋 I would recommend this food tour to anyone without hesitation, especially those who come to India for the first time. All the food we tried was very safe and hygienic, and there was no discomfort the next day. Come and join this food adventure, let your taste buds take you to India!

The chaotic and charming capital of India, don't miss this "Forbidden City".
When it comes to the most famous World Heritage Site in Delhi, it must be the Red Fort of Delhi, which is as important to Indians as the Forbidden City is to us.
·
To be honest, the first sight of the Red Fort is quite shocking, especially the large-scale red sandstone wall that stretches for 2 kilometers. Due to the high iron content, the entire castle looks spectacularly reddish-brown from the outside, hence the name Red Fort.
·
The history of the Red Fort in Delhi can be traced back to the Mughal Dynasty. The king Shah Jahan, who was in his heyday, built this palace. It started construction in 1639 and took 10 years to complete. It is said that the Red Fort of Delhi is based on the famous Agra Fort and is a typical Mughal-style Islamic building. Since the era of Emperor Shah Jahan, the capital of the Mughals has been moved from Agra to here.
·
But apart from the first sight, I personally feel that the inside of the Red Fort is average. The grandeur of the building is far less shocking than what you see outside. It is more like a big park and looks very scattered.
·
The main entrance of the Red Fort in Delhi is the Lahore Gate on the west side. When India became independent in 1947, the first tricolor flag was raised here. Through the red sandstone archway of the public hall is the private hall inlaid with agate and gemstones. The most important palace of the Red Fort, the Rang Mahal, is hidden behind the lace-like marble carved screen.
·
Rang Mahal is a place where the king and ministers discuss national affairs. It is all made of white marble. It is also the most luxurious building in the Red Fort and the most worth seeing. There are square arches on three sides and carved square windows on one side. The shape is like a beautifully carved pavilion.
·
Apart from the palace, most of the Red Fort seems a bit empty, like a leisurely garden. In the northeast corner, there is also the Salimgarh Fort built by Islam Shah Sur in 1546. The two together constitute the Red Fort building complex.
·
Anyway, the 500-year-old Red Fort is indeed a good place to understand Indian history and culture. If you go to see it with the same expectations as the Forbidden City, you may be disappointed. But just like the various Indians I met along the way, the scattered attitude may be the original appearance of India.
·
Similarly, this castle not only witnessed the once invincible Mughal dynasty, but even mixed with a bit of romance, from King Shah Jahan's infinite nostalgia for his beloved wife Taj Mahal, and here is also a tragic past. The colonial relics of the British invasion of India can be seen everywhere here.

The world's largest mosque: Jama Masjid.
Jama Masjid (India)
Located in the northeast corner of Old Delhi, Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in India (Jama means "big") and was once the largest mosque in the world.
Jama Masjid was built by a large group of craftsmen organized by Emperor Shah Jahan. Construction began in 1650, and it took more than 5,000 workers a total of 6 years to build, costing 1 million rupees. The mosque is tall and solemn, built on a high platform on a rocky hill, about 9 meters above the ground. From a distance, the three white domes and two towering minarets are majestic against the blue sky and white clouds. There are three gates leading to the main body of the mosque, the largest of which is the east gate, which is for the emperor's exclusive use. There are three white marble domes on the top of the mosque, dotted with gilded studs and black marble strips, which are particularly bright under the blue sky. The two towering minarets in the south and north are named Yili Tower, which is built with red sandstone and white marble. There are 130 steps in the tower, and visitors can climb to the top of the tower to watch the bustling view of Old Delhi.
Jama Masjid is known as an "architectural miracle". The entire mosque does not use wood. The ground, walls, and ceiling are all made of finely carved white stone, sealed with lead, which is very strong. The stone used in the temple is very strict in selection, and the color matching is very particular. Among the white marble, there are black marble stripes, black and white, beautiful and eye-catching. The red sandstone wall around the mosque makes it more magnificent.
The main hall of the temple faces east to the west, and there is a white marble slab in the middle, with the word "Mecca" (a holy place in Islam, located in Saudi Arabia) inlaid with black marble, which is black and white, and is particularly solemn. Delhi was once a city where Muslims lived. After the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, a large number of Muslims moved to Pakistan, but there are still a large number of Muslims in Delhi. Jama Masjid is a place where they worship, and a large number of Muslims come here every day to recite the Quran.
During the national uprising in 1857, the British colonial army retaliated against the people of Delhi who rebelled, and the Grand Mosque was closed for as long as 5 years, and even threatened to blow it up. After the people of Delhi paid 200,000 rupees, they returned to the Muslims.

Red Fort Delhi
An incredible piece of Indian history. This place is fantastic but busy. I recommend researching the history of it before going and showing up early. The crowds really pack in after noon. This place is so big that everyone could spread out and it didn't feel busy until we went to leave. They have a cafeteria to get food inside and many shops for tourists. There were stray dogs walking around and many school kids. There is a metro stop just outside of the Delhi gate, but expect to be swarmed by people selling and begging as you make your way inside.

Incredible mughlai butter chicken
Aslam Chicken is a must-visit for any chicken lover in Delhi. While the area and wait can be a bit daunting, the flavorful experience is absolutely worth it.
The highlight of their short menu is butter chicken, which is rich, creamy and indulgent. Go there with a big appetite, as you will fill up your tummy with romali roti drenched in the yoghurt, butter, chicken mix. The bustling atmosphere of Old Delhi added to the charm, making it a memorable dining experience. If you love butter chicken, you must try it here.
