2024 Budapest Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Budapest is the capital city of Hungary and it is also known as the "Pearl on the River Danube". The two banks of the River Danube, west and east, were the two cities Buda and Pest. Starting from 1873, they were united into a single city now called Budapest. Buda, on the west bank, holds the highlands. Castle Hill gathers together many scenic spots and symbolic landmarks such as Halaszbastya (Fisherman's Bastion) and Matthias Church. The hill is also a great place for beautiful views of distant Pest. Pest, on the east bank, is mostly flat. This is the site of the magnificent Hungarian parliament building, as well as famous shopping streets.

The historical Saint Stephen Basilica in Budapest
#churches #100waysoftravel
St Stephen's Basilica is a Roman Catholic Basilica in Budapest, and is named after the first King of Hungary, located within the city's UNESCO World Heritage Buffer Zone. It was built between 1851 and 1906 , based on the neo-classical style design by Jozsef Hild. There are many remarkable works of art in the Basilica such as the statues of St Elizabeth of Hungary, Saint Joseph, Francis of Assisi and Altar paintings of Saint Cecilia etc. There are two.large bells towers being anchored as the facade. Today, it is positioned as one of the most important architecture in Hungary, together with the Hungarian parliament, as one of the two tallest building in Hungary with the height of 96 meters.
Budapest | Enjoy the good vibe in Cosy restaurant in Budapest
Before watching the opera, my friends and I went for some Romanian food.
.
This little restaurant had a great atmosphere, with many groups dining together.
.
We ordered a glass of red wine. It wasn't particularly full-bodied, but it was very smooth.
.
Bean soup
I’ve gotten used to Hungarian soups where even if it looks vegetarian, there’s always some meat, haha. This one was hearty, with a tomato-based broth that was sweet and tangy, featuring sliced sausages, beans, and more. It tasted really good.
.
Stuffed cabbage
This dish is similar to tofu skins wrapped around meat. The sauerkraut wraps neatly chopped meat, and when you cut into it, it’s packed with fillings. The sour cream added extra flavor—very nice.
.
Chicken paprikash with noodles, cucumber salad
The chicken was stewed until very tender, paired with pickled cucumbers (which were prepared in a way that reminded me so much of home—delicious!), and some cooked dumplings. The combination of meat, vegetables, and carbs was very satisfying!
.
Average cost per person: £25

Budapest | The most beautiful coffee shop in the world
We lined up at the New York Cafe right when it opened at 8 a.m., and there were already 30 to 40 people in line… the business is really booming.
.
The interior of the cafe is magnificent and luxurious, with a great atmosphere.
.
The Eggs Benedict tasted a bit salty, with crispy fried potato strips on top, along with bacon and eggs—absolutely delicious!
.
The French toast with cherries had the perfect balance of sweet and sour.
.
My friend and I had cappuccinos and Americanos—both were decent and reliable choices.

The Enchanting Nightscape of Budapest: A Summer Evening to Remember
#cityscape #100waysoftravel #budapest #parliament #chainbridge #nightview #Budapestnightview #bastion
During our summer visit to Budapest, we waited at Fisherman’s Bastion until 8 PM to witness the city’s breathtaking night view. As the sun set, the iconic Parliament building and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge lit up, casting their golden glow over the Danube River. The reflection of the illuminated structures on the water created a mesmerizing scene, making the city feel magical. The contrast between the historic architecture and the shimmering lights made Budapest's nightscape one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, leaving an indelible impression that I’ll cherish for a lifetime.

Opened in 1906, it is one of the most famous museums in Europe
Ticket price: Adult 🎫 5800 Forint
This art museum has a very complete collection of Western art from an art history perspective, especially from the early Renaissance to the 18th century
The museum itself is very beautiful. The main building adopts a new Renaissance style 🪜The facade follows the norms of neoclassicism
In addition to these neoclassical style interiors with Hungarian characteristics
The museum's collection is composed of international art works, including more than 10,000 works representing all periods of European art, especially the rich collection of ancient Egyptian art is famous in Europe

Trip to Budapest 🇭🇺
Budapest, Hungary 🇭🇺 is definitely a good choice if you are looking for a place where you can get perfect 📸
Just to share my itinerary to take picture around the city. We started our day by visiting the iconic Buda Castle. As we strolled through the cobblestone streets, the views overlooking the Danube River were incredible. The perfect time to visit is early in the morning around 8 AM, when the sun softly illuminates the city, creating breathtaking views for photographs. We explored the Castle District, taking in the stunning architecture and stopping to admire the majestic Matthias Church ⛪️ If you’re looking for the perfect shot 📸 , the Fisherman's Bastion nearby offers a panoramic view of the Pest side, especially stunning at sunrise or sunset.
Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion
📍Szent György tér 2, Budapest 1014, Hungary
Matthias Church
📍Szentháromság tér 2, Budapest 1014, Hungary
Then we visited St. Stephen's Basilica, a stunning neo-classical church where we marveled at its intricate details. I would recommend climbing to the top of the dome for an unforgettable 360-degree view of Budapest. It's best to go in the late afternoon around 4 PM when the lighting for pictures is softer 📸 , highlighting the grandeur of the city.
St. Stephen's Basilica
📍Szent István tér 1, Budapest 1051, Hungary
We explored the Hungarian Parliament Building the next day, a must-visit spot for anyone coming to Budapest. We visited it early in the morning, around 9 AM, before the crowds poured in. The Parliament building, especially from across the river, provides one of the most iconic shots of the city. The lighting at that time of day is perfect for pictures 📸 that capture the building’s intricate Gothic details.
From there, we took a peaceful walk along the Danube Promenade, stopping by the Shoes on the Danube Bank, a moving memorial that we would recommend seeing around midday for some thought-provoking moments of reflection.

For a more relaxing experience, we visited the famous Széchenyi Thermal Bath, where we spent the morning soaking in the warm waters. The best time to go is in the morning around 8 AM, as it’s quieter and the light filtering through the steam makes for great pictures 📸 I would recommend walking through City Park afterward, where you can capture serene pictures at Vajdahunyad Castle 🏰 If you go closer to noon, the lighting adds a magical touch to the castle’s reflection in the water.

Stunning Architecture- Buda Fisherman's Castle❤️
#europeanarchitecture
At 7:25 pm, I arrived at the Fisherman's Castle in Pei Fen, where I was swinging in the air and feeding pigeons to Buda. During this journey, I made a decision to stay for a morning at the Fisherman's Castle to watch the sunrise. There were not many tourists at the Fisherman's Castle in the morning, and the golden morning light, sun, and fog gently enveloped everything nearby, such as the Parliament Building on the Agate River and the Chain Bridge in the distance. The sweet and sleeping distribution expressed that it was like being in a painting. At that moment, you would definitely thank yourself for waking up early. A person's life is not yet alive. Shooting location: Buda wearing this Fisherman's Castle. Best camera position on the second floor: (Picture 1) Looking down from the stairs on the second floor, (Picture 2) Rome sitting in the castle. Column shooting of side frame scenery, (Figure 3) a person standing in the corner of the balcony, the photographer standing on the side of the Roman column shooting time: reaching the best time before sunrise, because the sun rises quickly; After it's late, the light will become harder and there will be more tourists (and no one charges admission before 9:00). Are these moments of brilliant oil paintings?
The story told at the tale of 2 kingdom, Buda Castle

The Buda Castle, also known as the Royal Palace is the former residence and palace complex of Hungarian kings in Budapest. It was first completed in year 1265 but the Baroque palace was mainly constructed between 1749 and 1769. After the formation of republic, it houses the Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest Historical Museum and National Szechenyi Library. The palace complex also consists of the Matthias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion as part of the fortification efforts on the palace. The gallery houses many old artifacts and relics from the olden days, and there used to be a Labyrinth but it is closed for renovations. The palace was inscribed under UNESCO World Heritage in 1987.

My trip to Budapest was absolutely unforgettable! 🇭🇺 The city’s charm is undeniable, and there’s so much to see and do. I started with a visit to Buda Castle, which offers stunning panoramic views of the city. The entrance fee was around 2,000 HUF, and exploring the castle grounds was like stepping into history. 🏰
Strolling along the Danube Promenade was a highlight. The view of the Parliament Building from there, especially at sunset, is breathtaking. 🌅 For a cultural treat, I visited the Hungarian State Opera House, where a ticket to a performance was about 4,000 HUF. The architecture and the show were both spectacular. 🎭
I also enjoyed soaking in the Széchenyi Thermal Bath, where the entrance fee was about 5,500 HUF. It was so relaxing to unwind in the warm, mineral-rich waters. 🛁
Budapest’s mix of history, stunning architecture, and vibrant nightlife made it an incredible getaway. I can’t wait to return and explore more of this beautiful city! #trip #Budapest #BudaCastle #DanubeViews #SzéchenyiBath #HungarianOpera

World famous New York Cafe Budapest ☕️
#cafestory
During my summer vacation, I had the pleasure of visiting the New York Café in Budapest, and it was an unforgettable experience! Located at Erzsébet krt. 9-11, this café is often dubbed the “most beautiful café in the world,” and I can see why. The opulent interior, with its grand chandeliers and intricate frescoes, truly makes you feel like you're in a movie.
The café doesn't charge an entrance fee, but do expect to pay around €10-€15 for a coffee and pastry. I treated myself to their famous cake and a cup of rich coffee, both of which were fantastic.
While you're in the area, don't miss the nearby New York Palace and the stunning Hungarian State Opera House, both within walking distance.

Three-day Two-night Travel Guide to Budapest, Hungary
Day1:
☑️Széchenyi Chain Bridge Suitable for a night walk to enjoy the night view
Day2:
☑️Fisherman's Bastion It's recommended to go early for photos when there are fewer people!
☑️Matthias Church
☑️Buda Castle
☑️New York Café A beautifully decorated café, ladies should definitely wear a gorgeous dress for photos! (Walk in the afternoon, only a 5-minute wait in line, no need for reservations as mentioned online)
Day3:
☑️Budapest Central Market The first floor of the market sells chocolate, foie gras, bread, vegetables, fruits, etc., the second floor mainly has souvenirs and clothes, but the specialty chocolate has a peculiar taste, worth trying but not recommended to buy a lot
☑️Liberty Bridge The green iron bridge
☑️Night view photography across from the Hungarian Parliament Building Taxi address: Batthyány tér
Transportation🚗:
For convenience, I took a taxi directly from the airport to the city center, costing around €35. Taxi app: Bolt. Students can also choose to buy a ticket from the airport to the city center for 200E on the BudapestGo App
Danube River Cruise🚢: I bought the cruise ticket on the Duna Cruises official website for €29/person. The boat is quite new, with two levels, the upper level is open-air (you need to queue up early if you want to sit on the upper level), and the ticket includes a glass of sparkling wine. I recommend choosing a time just before sunset, the Hungarian Parliament Building is very photogenic when lit up!
Cuisine:
☑️Meet You Every Day
Ordered noodles in the morning, tasted quite good
☑️Town Hall
Authentic Chengdu hotpot, the base is very fragrant! Recommended for everyone to try when traveling! (Picture 9)
❌Comme Chez Soi
Highly recommended by many but actually a bit disappointing, the apple foie gras was a bit fishy, the seafood pasta was mediocre, and there was a beef soup that resembled borscht, not recommended
Budapest's cog railway is a true hidden gem
Taking the amazing cog-railway in Budapest is an amazing experience for tourists with a low budget. It's possible to take the small train for only 1 euro for a relatively long journey. The line starts from the Városmajor park and ends on the top of the mountain where there is a breathing view to central Budapest. It's even possible to see the well known parliament building.#budapest
Melancholic Budapest, one must see the Blue Danube in this lifetime
Budapest Blue Danube 📷 with camera position
'The Blue Danube' is about Vienna, but who can blame it for also flowing through Budapest
This is my favorite camera position in Budapest. I stayed in Budapest for two days, and only one day was relatively clear. This photo was taken during the blue hour, using a 70-200mm telephoto lens to compress the depth of field, and I chose to stack five shots at maximum value to enhance the effect of the traffic flow next to the Parliament.
📍 Google Maps: Savoyai terasz
After getting here, if you walk south, you can capture both the Parliament and the bridge in the same frame, with many composition options. I chose a position where the two buildings overlap each other
🔹 Although 'The Blue Danube' actually refers to Vienna, it also flows through Budapest. During the dawn and the blue hour after sunset, everything looks like the dreamy Blue Danube
🔹 So I waited from sunset to the blue hour at Buda Castle, and from the blue hour until nightfall, until the lights of the Parliament were lit, who says only Paris is a flowing feast
🔹 You can capture similar compositions all the way to the Virgin Mary Statue, just the relative positions are different, you can choose your favorite
🔹 Sunsets are earlier in winter, remember to check the sunset time before you go 🌄

Hungary Budapest - Stay in the Classic Central Apartment: Classic Central Apartment
On a trip to Eastern Europe, we arrived at the capital of Hungary, Budapest. Budapest is actually named after the combination of Buda (on the west bank) and Pest (on the east bank), with the Danube River running through it, making it a very romantic city and also the former capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The Classic Central Apartment where we stayed is a 65 square meter two-bedroom apartment with an excellent location. Opening the window, you face St. Stephen's Basilica, and it's very convenient for daily life with many restaurants and lively atmosphere, just a 2-minute walk from the subway station.
The apartment is well-equipped and spacious with wooden floors, a large L-shaped white sofa, a small kitchen with all the necessary equipment, and a pure white European style that is quite simple and elegant. The owner is very friendly and enthusiastic, and even provided a bottle of welcome red wine.
The cost for four people to stay one night is about 4800 New Taiwan dollars, which is a very high value for money. The reason for choosing this apartment was the view of St. Stephen's Basilica right outside the window, which was very attractive. The experience after staying was also good, highly recommended.

Take your lover's hand and take a walk on the Chain Bridge over the Danube
I happened to watch the latest 'Chinese Restaurant' on Mango TV, and found that this year's Chinese restaurant is actually located on the banks of the Danube in Budapest, Hungary.
There are many bridges across the Danube, but the Chain Bridge in Budapest is definitely the most talked about. Almost everyone who comes to Budapest, especially lovers, will definitely come to this bridge.
From day to night, I almost have to walk several times on the Chain Bridge every day in Budapest.
🌈 Recommendation reason:
The Chain Bridge, also known as the Széchenyi Bridge, named after the sponsor Count Széchenyi, and because the bridge was built by chain traction, it is called the Chain Bridge by everyone. This is the first bridge across the Danube, connecting Buda and Pest.
The Chain Bridge began to be built in 1839 and was completed in 1849, with a total length of 380 meters. When it was completed, it was the largest bridge in the world at that time. The bridge body is framed by chains, with pedestrian walkways on both sides of the bridge deck, and vehicles can pass in the middle.
During World War II, the German army blew up all the bridges in order to consolidate the fortress on Castle Hill. After the post-war reconstruction, the Chain Bridge reopened in 1949, a hundred years after its completion.
Under the clear sky, the most beautiful Chain Bridge on the blue Danube connects Buda and Pest, stringing together the two banks of the Pearl of the Danube. Someone once said, 'Take your lover's hand and walk across the nine bridges on the Danube.'
📸Shooting Tips:
In order to shoot the Chain Bridge at different times, I really walked back and forth from day to night.
🔶Best shooting point
- Overlooking from Castle Hill
- Stone lion at the bridge head
- Bridge pier in the center of the bridge
- On the Danube cruise ship
- Both banks of the Danube
🔶Best shooting time
In the evening, when the lights are on, the most dazzling Chain Bridge. It is recommended to bring a tripod.
