Medieval Fortified Tower in Belem, PORTUGAL 🇵🇹
#timetotravel
I visited the Belem Tower after its opening hours so I was not able to go in an only looked at it from the outside. But nonetheless, I believe it was still worth visiting and taking pictures with it on the outside. It is because what are the odds you will find another historical monument by the port!!
The tower itself is truly beautiful and is a well maintained historical monument.
Definitely worth a visit when you are in Lisbon. There are also loads of cafe and restaurants near by if you want to take a break from exploring.

Belem Beauty
Visit Belem where you can see the ponte 25 de Abril and de Cristo Rei. You can also see the historical monuments such as the Padrao de Descobrimentos and Torre de Belem. To follow this up you can eat the best pastel de Belem at the cafe where they have been making it since 1837.Fun fact: the real name of the tart is pastel de Belem. Only pastries that come out of their ovens can be called pastéis de Belém, otherwise if manufactured by a third party it has to be called pastel de nata. To follow this amazing experience you can even take a boat trip across the channel to see the beauty of Belem .
Where the river meets the ocean 🇵🇹
When in Lisbon, there a few things to do outside or in the outskirts of Lisbon itself - and visiting the Belem tower is one of them.
The Belém Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Lisbon’s most striking monuments and the icon of a country historically moulded by its proximity to the ocean and its maritime discoveries of new worlds.
Discoveries by Portuguese navigators transformed Lisbon into the world’s main trade hub in the 15th and 16th centuries.
To protect the city, King João II conceived a pioneer project to defend Lisbon from enemy ships, a work completed in 1514 and which included the building of the Belém Tower, designed by architect Francisco de Arruda.
The tower’s unique design includes a modern and heavily armed bastion, protruding over the river.
King Manuel I clearly wished the Belém Tower to stand as a lasting symbol of his powerful reign by depicting the royal coat of arms, the armillary sphere and the cross of the Order of Christ.

🏰✨ TIPS for Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon! ✨🏰
#wecreate
The monastery itself is a work of art and definitely worth a visit. Once you arrive you will see two queues. The shorter one is typically for the church (free to visit) and the longer one will be for the monastery (you need to have a ticket).
The monastery hosted the famous signing of the 2007 Treaty of Lisbon which was held in the cloister of the monument.
The Lisbon card states you get fast track however, don’t be fooled, it just means you get the entrance, there isn’t a “fast-track” queue. We suggest you head over there first thing in the morning, the queue can be between 1-2h wait time at midday.

The building is a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome, it became the necropolis of the Portuguese royal dynasty of Aviz in the 16th century but was secularized on 28 December 1833.
The church and the monastery, like the nearby Torre de Belém and Padrão dos Descobrimentos, symbolise the Portuguese Age of Discovery and are among the main tourist attractions of Lisbon. In 1983, UNESCO formally designated the Monastery of the Hieronymites and Tower of Belém as a World Heritage Site.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Mesmerising architecture - Jeronimos
The Jeronimos Monastery is the most impressive symbol of Portugal's power and wealth during the Age of Discovery. King Manuel I built it in 1502 on the site of a hermitage founded by Prince Henry the Navigator, where Vasco da Gama and his crew spent their last night in Portugal in prayer before leaving for India. It was built to commemorate Vasco Da Gama's voyage and to give thanks to the Virgin Mary for its success.
Vasco da Gama's tomb was placed inside by the entrance, as was the tomb of poet Luis de Camões, author of the epic The Lusiads in which he glorifies the triumphs of Da Gama and his compatriots. Other great figures in Portuguese history are also entombed here, like King Manuel and King Sebastião, and poets Fernando Pessoa and Alexandre Herculano.
The monastery was populated by monks of the Order of Saint Jerome (Hieronymites), whose spiritual job was to give guidance to sailors and pray for the king's soul. It's one of the great triumphs of European Gothic (UNESCO has classified it a World Heritage monument), with much of the design characterized by elaborate sculptural details and maritime motifs. This style of architecture became known as "Manueline," a style that served to glorify the great "discoveries" of the age.

Jeronimos Monastery was built in 1502 and located in Praca do Imperio 1400-206, Lisboa, and is open from Tuesday to Sunday 1000-1700, close on Monday. Take Tram Line 15 to alight at Mosteiro Jeronimos and you will see the Monastery.
The cloisters are magnificent, with each column differently carved with coils of rope, sea monsters, and other sea motifs, evocative of that time of world exploration at sea.
The church interior is spacious with octagonal piers decorated with reliefs, and outside the garden laid out in 1940 consisting of hedges cut in the shape of various municipal coats of arms of Portugal.
The Jeronimos Monastery is one of the most visited sites in Lisbon, and it was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

🇵🇹 The most authentic Portuguese egg tarts
People always say that a trip to Lisbon is not complete without trying the authentic Portuguese egg tarts (Pastéis de Belém), which originated in a monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos) in Belém.
Since 1837, the baking of the Pastéis de Belém began in the buildings attached to a sugar refinery next to the monastery, following the ancient secret recipe from the monastery. The production of Pastéis de Belém continues till present days and it is also the name of the bakery where you can get the most authentic Portuguese egg tarts.
You will always see a long queue outside the bakery but do not worry, just walk into the restaurant and there are plenty of tables awaiting you. Service is quite fast and you can also try other pastries and beverages. Even if you do not make a trip to Belem, you can try ordering the pastries from Uber Eats while you are in Lisbon.

The perfect sweet treat in Belem 🇵🇹
#timetotravel
Make sure you visit Pastéis de Belém when you’re in Lisbon!!!
The pastry shop is very big and it has a courtyard at the back of the shop so we didn’t have to wait at all to be seated.
We ordered one nata, one cappuccino and a galao (which is like a latte but with more frothed milk). The nata is seriously good and truly better than other pastry shops we went in Lisbon because it is not too sweet, my friend and I did a very good job at controlling ourselves not to order more haha
Everything came down to €5.15 which was a steal!!!

Originators of my favorite: 蛋挞.
There’s so much to see in #lisbon otherwise known as Lisboa. From the architect, history, sports, food and coastline beauty- it’s definitely worth the visit. Famous on port wine and seafood, I didn’t know anything about the country besides Cristiano Ronaldo being from there. I was most surprised how diverse the country is. I met so many people from Brazil, Angola and Cape Verde. I’m excited to go back and explore even more outside the city. #touristsattraction #portugal

Good food, good coffee in Lisbon
If you are planning to go to Portugal, I believe you are also ready for a ton of Portuguese egg custard tart hunting. For that, you would not want to miss this iconic store - Pastel de Belém, which literally in Portuguese means egg tart.
Here’s a little fun history. The birthplace of Pastel de Belém is Lisbon. The pastries were created by Catholic monks of Jerónimos Monastery in Santa Maria de Belém, Lisbon, around the beginning of the 18th century. The monks had relocated from France, where similar sweets were widely available. So, Pastel de Belém actually invented the famous egg tart back in 1837.
After all these years, the original still remains the best from the taste and the scent imo. The texture is also rich, and the appearance is so pleasing. Really enjoyed it. In this post I also shared some other photos of coffee from a random cafe on the street, another egg tart stores and Portuguese pork sandwich from i think a mall stall. Anyway, enjoy your egg tarts in Lisbon!

Lisbon, Portugal, is all about good food and fun, which are the main themes of this city
Traveling and taking photos in Portugal is a great choice for you.
The colorful houses built on the hillsides🏠, the ancient trams🚌, the ubiquitous taverns🍷, the romantic Fado music🎵... Walking through the streets and alleys, listening to the old ding-ding sound of the trams, the air is filled with the sweet aroma of Portuguese egg tarts, it's like entering a dopamine-filled fairy tale world
-
Lisbon is known as the 'City of Seven Hills,' and compared to the tourist-packed Barcelona and Madrid, it has more of a living atmosphere, with a history older than Paris and London, and the key is that the prices are really super beautiful, making it a great destination for budget travelers~
-
✅Alfama District: The oldest district in Lisbon, with many historical monuments and landscapes. For tourists, Alfama is the place to experience the authentic Lisbon life. Walking around this old district is the best way to understand the city's rise and fall and its lively atmosphere.
-
✅Tram 28: The city's name, Lisbon, is truly embodied by Tram 28. It is one of the oldest trams in Europe. The tram traveling through the streets, hillsides, and in front of churches is one of the most representative postcard images of Lisbon. The more you ride, the more you'll love Lisbon.
-
✅St. George's Castle: This is the highest point in the old district. Climbing up to the castle at dusk, with the colorful houses and the glittering sea, playing guitar and singing with a few good friends, waiting for the sunset to reveal dreamy colors, is the most romantic thing I can think of.
-
✅Thieves Market: In the Alfama district's Santa Clara Square, every Tuesday and Saturday it turns into a bustling market. For those who like vintage items, or want to find some souvenirs, this is heaven. From tableware, decorations, records, books, cameras... everything is available, and the prices are beautiful and acceptable.
-
✅Portuguese Egg Tarts: How can you come to Portugal and not try the authentic Portuguese egg tarts? Although egg tarts are a traditional dessert known to every household, and can be bought in any street or alley, to eat the most authentic and historic egg tarts, you still have to go to the century-old shop Pastéis de Belém in the suburb of Lisbon, Belem.
-
✅Fado Music: In Lisbon's seaside, coffee spots, street shops, or anywhere else, you can hear the melodious and touching Fado. With over a hundred years of history, Fado music has been integrated into Lisbon's DNA, including graffiti elements of Fado that fill every corner of the streets.
🥐 Delightful Pasteis de Belém 🇵🇹

When it comes to food and drinks, Lisbon caters for everyone. The culinary scene is split in-between, traditional cuisine but also former colonial one such as Brazilian or Angolan.
What trip to Portugal would be complete without trying the famous Pastel de Nata? This pastry is a fairly simple mixture consisting of a case made of puff pastry and thick custard baked till the custard is set yet slightly gooey.
