2026 Bathalaa Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in January)

The snorkeling amenities were truly excellent. The island staff were all extremely friendly and offered remarkably attentive service. Special thanks to Mirsaid, who gave us a comprehensive overview of the hotel facilities and a clear rundown of the daily activities when we arrived. All in all, we were very happy with the whole experience and are already planning to come back next year.

We visited Sandies Bathala for Christmas and New Year 2025. While we've been to the Maldives numerous times, this was our first experience on this island. All the staff were exceptionally kind and welcoming. A special shoutout to ‘the girl that does everything’ (Chiara?). The island is peaceful and unassuming, exactly what we were looking for. The room was nice, the bed very comfortable; however, the air conditioning was quite loud. Our room attendant was wonderful and kept everything spotless. The reef was absolutely stunning, showcasing an incredible variety of corals, fish, turtles, and so many sharks—we counted about 20 on a single snorkel! We even spotted dolphins from the shore, which was magical. The food was generally very good and impressively hot, which is rare for buffet-style meals. We especially enjoyed the breakfast omelets, chapati with dal, and the curries. Our waiter was lovely—so patient and kind. The Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve buffets weren’t quite as enjoyable for us, though that might be because we don’t eat fish. For improvement, having a table between the loungers in the rooms would be useful. Also, the bar’s table service was occasionally slow, but once we got someone’s attention, the service was excellent. We hope to return someday. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

Having explored several Maldivian islands over the years, we stumbled upon Bathala last year. Reviews had referred to it as Paradise, and honestly, that description couldn't be more accurate. We fell in love with the place so much that we decided to return this year to Sandies, where we once again experienced an incredible vacation. Not only is the island itself stunningly beautiful, but the Sandies team also deserves special recognition. Huge thanks to Mr. Upul and the front office staff, who were not only professional and approachable but also went above and beyond to make us feel warmly welcomed and well looked after throughout our stay. A special mention for those in the restaurant: the charming Mr. Magic, Mr. Rakesh, who excelled at the fish grill station, and the talented pasta chef who managed to convert my husband into a pasta lover—a big achievement. Likewise, the gentleman maintaining our beach villa did an outstanding job. Not only was it spotless every day, but his bed decorations were artistic delights we always looked forward to coming back to. Behind the scenes, many others contributed to the magic of Sandies—gardeners, engineers, electricians, laundry staff, and more. They were always cheerful, friendly, and ready with a smile whenever we encountered them. We also made the most of the gorgeous beach and fantastic snorkeling opportunities. A standout experience was a morning spent with Alice collecting coral for a reef star as part of a coral reef conservation project, a truly rewarding activity. We also enjoyed the fascinating evening talks held by the marine biologists. Without a doubt, this has become our ‘go-to’ island, and we cannot wait for future visits.

Sandies Bathala was everything we wished for and met all of our expectations. With just 70 accommodations—30 Water Villas and 40 Beach Villas—it's the ideal escape for those seeking a serene and uncomplicated resort. Our Beach Villa was stunning and offered an incredible view; frankly, all the Beach Villas seemed to have amazing views. The staff were exceedingly friendly and eager to assist in every way. Our restaurant waiter, Magic, was fantastic—he went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, even taking the time to teach us some Maldivian words to use during our visit. Thanks to Niushad, our room attendant, who worked like an invisible magician to keep our Villa spotless, which is no easy feat with all the sand around. Appreciation also goes to Muhamid and his fantastic bar team, who always remembered our drinks and had a great sense of humor. Finally, a big thank you to the activities crew for their cheerful and engaging presence. Apologies for not naming everyone who made our dream holiday such a remarkable experience.

Our travel agency switched our booking to Sandies Bathala unexpectedly, leaving us unsure of what to anticipate. Fortunately, rather than a speedboat from Male, we were swiftly transferred onto a seaplane, and after 30 stunning minutes, we arrived in paradise. Our overwater villa was roomy, spotless, and allowed direct access to the house reef for daily snorkeling. It's a small island, but the food is delightful, and the staff is incredibly accommodating. The management did everything possible to enhance our stay. I wholeheartedly recommend this fantastic resort.

Bathala is a stunning little isle perfect for a truly relaxing escape. We didn't wear shoes at all during our stay (which we absolutely loved!). The staff went above and beyond to make our holiday memorable. Special thanks to Mustapha for taking care of our room, and to the delightful Magic in the restaurant who ensured we were always well attended to during meals. The cuisine was incredibly delicious, making us eagerly anticipate each meal. The water villas are particularly remarkable, with snorkeling from our villa deck being an absolute highlight (witnessed loads of vibrant fish, two gigantic turtles, and three grey reef sharks passing by). Everything about the island and resort was absolutely SUPERB - thank you...!!
