2025 Bangkok Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in January)
Energetic, chaotic, and majestic, these are just a few words that come to mind when describing Bangkok. The heart and capital of Thailand, Bangkok is one of the most sprawling and metropolitan cities in Asia, and a popular gateway into the country. A city that has deeply rooted traditions and cosmopolitan attitudes, Bangkok has abundant cultural fascinations to captivate travelers from all over the world.Located close to the Gulf of Thailand, Bangkok is a city of waterways with the Chao Phraya River flowing through it. Back in the 19th century, as most of the city’s residents lived near or on the water, the city is known as the “Venice of the East.” While the history of Bangkok dates back about 600 years, it didn’t become the capital city until the 18th century. Through trade and commerce, the city expanded to its current scale. Today tourism is one of the major sources of revenue in Bangkok. With a tropical monsoon climate, the capital is hot and humid year-round. The most pleasant months to visit are from November to March when the heat and humidity are at their lowest. But this also means crowds are at their peak in late Fall and Winter, and this is particularly true around the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. If you don’t mind the monsoon season, July and August are the off-peak seasons where many good deals are available on hotels and flights. There are so many first-rate scenic spots on offer in Bangkok, it is impossible to see them all if you only have a few days. For major tourist attractions in Bangkok, most are historical or religious sites. Make sure you admire the amazing architectural design of the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, pay homage to the sacred Jade Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) or the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho), or cruise past the temples and mansions on the Chao Phraya River (River of Kings). It is worth noting that, as many sites are sacred, there are strict rules which all visitors must follow. For instance, dress codes at the Grand Palace and various temples, men must wear long pants, shirts with sleeves, and no bare feet are permitted. Women must wear modest clothing that covers knees and shoulders.

Taking Photos in Front of Lido
• The waiting area in front of Lido is absolutely stunning. Last week, I had the chance to visit Bangkok and took some roadside photos. Let me tell you, they turned out gorgeous, like something straight out of Pinterest.
• The photos were taken around 4 PM, which is a great time, but be cautious of the red light from the Lido screen. Otherwise, your face might end up looking red like a demon, haha.
• Dress code: I recommend wearing white or light-colored outfits to contrast with the road.

The epitome of fashion and modernity, the largest Starbucks Reserve in Bangkok @ ICONSIAM.
The largest Starbucks Reserve branch in Bangkok is located on the 6th floor of ICONSIAM shopping center. Due to its high ceiling, it extends to an outdoor terrace on the 6th floor and also has an indoor space on the 7th floor mezzanine. The entire area is very spacious, comparable to the One Bangkok branch.
Following ICONSIAM's stylish and luxurious design, Starbucks Reserve is also quite fancy, both opulent and colorful. It features large floor-to-ceiling windows and green plants that add a touch of sophistication and literary charm.
The outdoor terrace is a major selling point of Starbucks, offering a direct view of the Chao Phraya River and the high-rise buildings across it. It is especially popular during New Year's Eve, making it the best spot to watch the New Year's fireworks show.
As vibrant as blooming flowers, the stylish Starbucks Reserve @ One Bangkok.
Starbucks Reserve @ One Bangkok, the latest shopping center in Bangkok, has opened, and of course, Starbucks couldn't be left out. Located in Tower 4, this Reserve-level Starbucks offers a selection of coffee beans and flavors, including exclusive beans unique to this store.
To match the fashionable positioning of One Bangkok, this Starbucks Reserve in Tower 4 also adopts a modern and stylish design. The ceiling is designed to resemble a wave of colorful flowers, swaying gracefully, making it both fashionable and beautiful.
The two-story loft space has separate entrances on the first and second floors, catering to both tourists and office workers with different access points. The internal staircase connecting the two floors is designed to look like an entrance to a fairy tale world, cute and magical.
In summary, it's a beautifully decorated store with a great atmosphere, perfect for taking photos, relaxing, and enjoying a cup of coffee.

Bangkok One-Day Tour: Riverside Scenery and City Exploration
Check-in at AVANI Riverside Bangkok Hotel located by the Chao Phraya River, a modern four-star hotel. The most attractive feature of the hotel is the rooftop infinity pool, where you can swim while enjoying the stunning view of the Chao Phraya River. The rooms are designed in a minimalist and stylish manner, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that allow natural light to flood in, offering a broad view. Although the hotel is not in the city center, it provides regular shuttle boat services to the central pier, making it convenient for tourists to travel.
After enjoying the hotel's sumptuous buffet breakfast, take the hotel shuttle boat to the central pier, then transfer to the BTS Skytrain to the Grand Palace.
The Grand Palace's magnificent architecture showcases the beauty of Thai architecture, and the Emerald Buddha in Wat Phra Kaew is solemn and impressive. Remember to dress appropriately when visiting, and it is recommended to visit in the morning to avoid the heat.
For lunch, head to Supanniga Eating Room in the Thonglor area. This restaurant offers authentic Thai home-cooked dishes, and their stir-fried morning glory with shrimp paste and spicy shrimp soup are highly recommended, each dish bursting with Thai spices.
In the afternoon, visit the Jim Thompson House, a well-preserved traditional Thai house that showcases exquisite architectural craftsmanship. The lush tropical plants in the garden make it a great place to relax. Through the guided tour, you can learn more about the legendary story of this American businessman.
In the evening, return to the Chao Phraya River area and take a sightseeing boat to tour the river, enjoying the scenery and sunset on both sides. Along the way, you can see the iconic Wat Arun, with the golden sunset reflecting on the white pagoda, creating an unforgettable picture.

A-One Ari Plaza: A Tranquil Haven in Bangkok's Hipster District Ari
Ari, the hipster hub of Bangkok, is home to a community space called 'A One Ari' located near Soi Ari 1. Entering through a market-like entrance, you find yourself in a different world centered around a large tree in the courtyard. Surrounded by coffee shops and snack bars, the area is tranquil and peaceful, making it hard to believe that a bustling main road is just outside.
There are several popular small shops here, such as Coffee No.9 for coffee, Mee Khwam Sook for bubble tea, Dan Dan Noodle for Chinese noodles, Semoline for Italian cuisine, and Sanan Napa Market for miscellaneous goods. Despite its small size, it's a great place to explore. The outdoor seating under the big tree is very cool and perfect for enjoying an iced milk tea.
Coffee No.9 serves as the entrance facade of A-One Ari Plaza. It has good business, offering high-quality coffee at a low price. Although there's no air conditioning, the shade from the outdoor seating area is quite effective. It's recommended to visit in the evening when it's cooler, and there's even guitar performances on weekends.
Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok
The classic hotel still has its charm. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the beds are great for sleeping, and the soundproofing is quite good. During our stay, most of the staff we interacted with were very pleasant. The location is very convenient, with well-developed surrounding amenities.
Five-star enjoyment; their buffet meals are also good, above standard; clean and neat, luxurious decor, and professional and courteous staff. It truly lives up to the international reputation of Sheraton. The meeting rooms and services are also of a very high standard.
Ascott Embassy Sathorn Bangkok
Ascott Embassy Sathorn Bangkok is a new hotel with suites and apartment-style rooms at reasonable prices. The beds are very comfortable, meeting a six-star standard! The only downside of staying here is that the pool's sunlight gets blocked. When I stayed in November, there was only about an hour of sunlight around 10:00 AM, and it was just in one corner. After that, you have to wait until late in the evening because the prime sunlight hours are blocked by surrounding buildings. It seems the design didn't consider the angle of sunlight. If you care about sunbathing, it might feel like a waste of the new pool!

Staycation in Bangkok, Asoke Area
✨ Bringing everyone to a staycation to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere at a hotel in the heart of Sukhumvit 13, close to shopping malls and convenient transportation.
Radisson Suites Bangkok Sukhumvit is a chic modern hotel located in Soi Sukhumvit 13, with a great location. We stayed in a One Bedroom Suite, which is spacious and divided into a bedroom, living room, work corner, and dining table area. The room is fully equipped with amenities.
The facilities are complete, including a city-view swimming pool with a warm jacuzzi for a relaxing soak, a fitness center, a restaurant, and a rooftop bar.
The hotel is close to the BTS and Terminal 21 mall, and the hotel provides shuttle services, making our stay even more convenient. If you're looking for a well-located and comfortable place to stay in Bangkok, we highly recommend it.
EmQuartier, a stylish and sleek shopping center with a beautiful sky garden.
Located in the classic shopping district of Bangkok's BTS Phrom Phong station, EmQuartier is composed of three department stores with different styles. The atrium is connected by a large area of green plants, making the entire mall feel like an airy garden, fresh, bright, and lush.
Especially during the Christmas and New Year season, the entire mall is beautifully adorned with lights, making it a great spot for photos. In addition to the cute Christmas trees, there are also stage performances and meet-and-greet events, creating a lively atmosphere.
EmQuartier is a white building full of fashionable design elements, with semi-streamlined white banded exterior walls, making it perfect for 3D projections. Every evening, a colorful light show is displayed, which is very eye-catching.
In addition to the sky garden, boutiques, and food street restaurants, one of the highlights of the department store is the three-story high spiral screen column, which is dazzling and eye-catching. When you get tired of shopping, you can relax with a cup of coffee at %, enjoying a leisurely time.
Warehouse30's Industrial-Style Coffee Shop in Bangkok: a Coffee Roaster by li-bra-ry
A Coffee Roaster by li-bra-ry is a coffee shop located in the Warehouse30 creative space in Bangkok. The shop is housed in a metal warehouse, giving it a cold, industrial feel. The space features a long, rectangular double-sided bar and an open workspace where you can enjoy your coffee, air conditioning, and watch the baristas at work, making for a very comfortable experience.
I ordered a simple Flat White coffee, which was beautifully crafted with a lovely latte art. The milk foam was smooth and rich, making it easy to drink. The design of the workspace, with its row of gray pendant lights and crisscrossing metal pipes on the ceiling, adds a stylish touch.
In addition to the coffee roasting equipment at the back of the shop, there is also a small general store called 30_6 Selected Store, filled with creative items to discover. Due to its proximity to a university and a creative center, Warehouse30 attracts many young people and hipsters, giving it a vibe similar to the Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung.

TCDC Thailand Creative & Design Center, an ultra-cool art library and research center.
TCDC Thailand Creative & Design Center is located on Charoen Krung Road, the oldest street in Bangkok. It is housed in a historic post office building with grand stone walls. The front building facing the street is the 'General Post Office,' while the rear building is the 'Thailand Creative Center,' making the architecture quite striking.
The layout design of TCDC is quite unique. The entrance is on the 5th floor, accessible by elevator. The lobby features a café and an information desk. After purchasing a ticket and exchanging it for a pass, you can enter for a visit.
The 5th floor's Creative Space is a workspace and meeting room combined with business, where the Creative Business Service can always respond to inquiries about creativity, design, and business.
The 4th floor's Resources Center is similar to an open library with a bright and spacious area, housing over 18,000 art and design books. The 3rd floor is the Make Space, where you can rent equipment like 3D printers, CNC machines, and laser cutters. The 2nd floor is the Material & Design Innovation Center, and the 1st floor is the Gallery.
It is both a library and a research center, reflecting Thailand's emphasis on design aesthetics. No wonder new malls and hotel designs always attract global attention. TCDC is quite worth a visit.
Talat Noi Museum: A Charming Local Attraction in the Talat Noi Community
Located along the Chao Phraya River, Talat Noi is one of Bangkok's oldest communities. It is now popular among tourists for its street art, old houses turned into cafes, and local snacks. To promote the area, a museum called Talat Noi Museum was established, offering an in-depth yet accessible introduction to the community's development history.
The museum is housed in an old factory building and spans three floors. The first floor features an information desk and a creative product area. Visitors can register their basic information to enjoy free admission. The air conditioning inside is very cool, making it a comfortable visit.
The second and third floors are exhibition rooms showcasing the origins and unique features of the Talat Noi community. There are many old photos and newspaper articles, which are quite commemorative. There are also some photo spots for visitors to take pictures. The museum is very thoughtfully designed and is well worth a visit.
Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok: A Classic Five-Star Hotel Next to a Mall and Park
Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok is a classic five-star hotel with a history of at least 40 years. It was renovated in 2020 and has been well-maintained, featuring a grand lobby and luxurious decor. The crystal chandeliers commonly found in five-star hotels still exude a high-end atmosphere.
I stayed for three nights over New Year's and was pleasantly surprised to get a discounted rate. My room was on the 18th floor, directly facing the greenery of Chatuchak Park, offering excellent views. The executive deluxe king room for three nights, without breakfast, cost only 6,938 TWD! That's an average of just 2,300 TWD per night, which is incredibly affordable for a five-star hotel!
The outdoor pool, although on the first floor, is designed like a resort, with pavilions and a Thai temple nearby, adding to the charm. The hotel is connected to the shopping center by a multi-story parking lot, with a passageway leading directly to the BTS Skytrain station, making it very convenient.
The service at this classic five-star hotel is excellent. When my room wasn't ready upon check-in, they arranged for me to rest in the VIP lounge and offered a welcome drink, instantly lifting my spirits.
The hotel's location is at the intersection of the BTS and MRT, making it easy to reach various attractions. It's especially convenient for visiting the Chatuchak Weekend Market, just one stop away. For dining, you can go to the food court in the shopping center, which offers a wide variety of restaurants and snacks. This is a highly recommended five-star hotel.
Glimmer Bar is an American country-style coffee bar in Thonglor, Bangkok.
I accidentally stumbled upon a coffee shop & bar attached to another hotel and was captivated by its relaxed atmosphere. As I climbed the stairs to the second floor, I was greeted by a cozy American-style space!
The coffee restaurant is called Mareeji Cafe & Casual Dining, which opens at 7:30 AM and serves food until midnight. Starting at 3:00 PM, the Glimmer Bar joins in, operating simultaneously with the cafe.
In addition to serving food, the shop also has a section displaying small items for sale. It's truly a place where you can eat and shop. You can sit on the terrace and enjoy the view. Being in a small alley, it offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle, yet it's still close to the BTS station. This is truly a characteristic of the affluent Thonglor area in Bangkok.

BAY Aree: A Unique Coffee Cocktail Bar in Bangkok's Ari District
BAY Aree, a unique coffee cocktail bar in Bangkok's Ari district, features American rustic wooden decor with extensive use of wooden furniture, adorned with suede and fur fabrics, creating a dimly lit, serene space that is especially atmospheric at night.
If you call BAY Aree a beautiful café, it wouldn't be wrong. Whether it's the outdoor seating or the interior, every corner has a unique aesthetic—slightly wild yet tranquil, a bit rustic yet mixed with a touch of modernity, making it a great spot for photos.
The rugged-looking owner of BAY Aree serves girly cocktails and beautiful cakes, which is quite a contrast.
For someone like me who doesn't like heavy alcohol, the sweet cocktails are very enjoyable, and I can eat the decorated fruits to get some vitamin C.
With long operating hours from 10 AM to midnight, the atmosphere in the bar changes significantly from day to evening and late night.
Personally, I prefer the nighttime vibe. The weather in Bangkok at the end of December is very pleasant, with cool breezes at night, which is quite different from the usual hot and sweaty Bangkok, making it a rare experience.

River City Bangkok: A Riverside Art Shopping Center
A place worth a quick visit, River City Bangkok is a unique mall by the Chao Phraya River, masquerading as a shopping center but actually an art hub.
River City Bangkok is a shopping center themed around galleries, artworks, and antiques. It hosts both free and paid exhibitions from time to time, and features paintings by emerging artists, jewelry, gemstones, Buddha sculptures, Thai textiles, and even a Pokémon card trading area.
The lobby is quite modern with a black and white decor and several large art installations. It's a good place to cool off with some air conditioning, but unless you have a strong interest in art, you might find it a bit dull for a serious visit.
River City Bangkok boasts an excellent location. The pier in front is the boarding point for the Chao Phraya Princess Cruise, and it faces the riverside ICONSIAM shopping center. The large terrace on the top floor offers the best view for New Year's Eve fireworks, making it a highly sought-after spot.

A Daytime Cafe, Transformed into a Nighttime Bar: Little Ghost Cafe in Bangkok
An interesting community-based cafe concept, quiet during the day and lively as a bar in the evening.
Located in the Thong Lor community on Sukhumvit 36, Little Ghost Cafe has been open for less than six months. Staying at the nearby IR-ON Hotel, I always wanted to check it out whenever I passed by.
The cute little ghost logo is perfect for merchandise. The coffee is reasonably priced at around 100 THB, but the taste is not compromised. The bright and clean environment is very relaxing, making it a great place to work on a laptop. There are also outdoor seats for daydreaming and sunbathing.
In the late afternoon and evening, Poltergeist Craft Bar takes over, offering six flavors of craft beer. The atmosphere becomes very chill, especially in the cozy outdoor courtyard.

Hong Sieng Kong: A Hidden Gem Café by the Chao Phraya River
While wandering through the alleys of Talat Noi in Bangkok, I stumbled upon a blue ancient house with a large gate, which turned out to be the Hong Sieng Kong café. It looked like an old mansion of a wealthy family, and stepping inside revealed a whole new world.
The interior is cool and somewhat dim. This is where you place your order. I ordered a simple meat sauce spaghetti and iced coffee for lunch. I initially thought the food would be pre-packaged, but to my surprise, it was delicious. The meat sauce was perfectly mixed with the tomato flavor and fine noodles, with the right texture and seasoning.
There are limited seats indoors, so I continued to look for a spot. The outdoor area is a high-ceilinged corridor with a canopy, making the space bright and spacious. The old walls of the mansion are adorned with wooden furniture and antique decorations, giving it a vintage charm. There is also a wooden spiral staircase leading to the second floor, filled with antique collections, though it's unclear if they are genuine.
Passing through the corridor, you reach a small outdoor courtyard and the riverside seating area. The sunny Chao Phraya River view attracts many foreigners who don't mind the heat.
I thought that was all, but the adjacent building is also part of the café! It features an indoor seating area with floor-to-ceiling windows, perfect for those who want to enjoy the river view without being exposed to the sun.
Further exploration reveals an old courtyard with an inner-facing old mansion façade. The blue-painted walls and two-story corridor exude a rustic charm, though it's not open for public viewing, which is a pity.
Hong Sieng Kong is designed in a U-shape. The front left is the indoor ordering area, the middle left is the corridor seating, the bottom is the riverside outdoor seating, the middle right is the indoor seating with floor-to-ceiling windows and courtyard, and the top right is the closed-off ancient house area.
It's a fantastic space that you would never guess from the outside. Highly recommended for a cool break while exploring Talat Noi.

The Elegant Thai Cuisine of the Instagrammable Glass House: Oranuch Thai Dining in Bangkok
It's my first time experiencing such an elegant Thai restaurant, it's like an Instagram-worthy garden glass house. Eating authentic Thai cuisine on sophisticated porcelain plates creates a wonderfully surreal feeling!
Oranuch Thai Dining, as the name suggests, is elegant. The dining environment is absolutely top-notch. It's a new brand under the Thai Baan Ying dining group, focusing on a light luxury route. You can make reservations online, and there's even a parking lot. It's about a 15-minute walk from the BTS Skytrain Asok station.
We ordered three dishes: Thai River Prawn Curry, Crab Omelette, and Thai Sauce Fried Chicken Wings.
The river prawns were fresh, and the Thai curry was rich and flavorful, best enjoyed with fragrant rice. The crab meat on the omelette was generous, but the seafood flavor was a bit strong, making it a bit overwhelming after a while. The fried chicken wings were decent, but I didn't quite like them with the Thai sauce.
This is a place to enjoy the ambiance. The environment is truly elegant and photogenic, with beautiful lighting and a great atmosphere, making it perfect for dates or gatherings.
However, if you're looking for delicious food, I highly recommend the Michelin-listed Lay Lao for seafood Thai cuisine. It's so good that I ate there for three consecutive days, no exaggeration!
