An Underrated Holiday Gem
#hiddengems
The Asturias is a unique region in northern Spain that has its own language, culture and food. It has some of the best sceneries in northern Spain. I was lucky to enjoy some hiking trails with friends in the picos de europa. There is a lot of greenery to be found here.
Those green pastures explain why the region is known for dairy products. More articularly milk, cheese and yoghurts, and has even earned the nickname of Pais de Quesos, Land of Cheeses. One of the most popular is cabrales – a blue-veined cheese made from a mixture of cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk. There’s even a cheese route you can follow, to visit dairy farms and see how it gets made, including how it’s aged in ancient cheese caves.
The capital city is a wonderful destination with medical churches, monuments and a lively restaurant scene. Gijon on the coast is another worthy stop I can remember. The best part are those seaside towns. The more popular ones being Lastres and Cudillero. I don't even know how i still remember those names. But a holiday to this hidden gem of a region comes recommended. #hiddengems #asturias #northspain #vivaespania
