Almuñécar
Almuñécar is not a big area, it is a little town, however, there are many many things that make you love the little town. for example, the city center is worth to stroll around, narrow streets, up and down, houses with typical decorations with little Flores pots! little far away from the center, you can enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean Sea along the coast! during the winter time , it is quiet and peaceful, which I would suggest to travel . on other hand, during the winter time, this place is too many people, too much noise. for sure, it is not for peace lovers!! in general, the weather is lovely with the tropical temperature! I love this place and had been going there almost every year!

Large summer resort
Andalucia Tour ~ Granada (Region)
The coast of Granada is located on the Mediterranean Sea and has one of the oldest towns on the so-called Costa Tropical.
The city of Almuñécar is located between the sea and the mountains, and its 20 km of coastline offers visitors a wide variety of beaches and coves. The shallow waters of Calabajío are ideal for children; this area of the Costa Tropical offers several opportunities, including practicing nudism at the bottom of the canyons of Cantarrijan, lively evenings in Puerta del Mar or diving in the depths of the ocean in La Herradura. The development of the area has created large summer resort developments while still caring for the natural environment, so that visitors can enjoy all the charm of the landscape and the most diverse leisure activities. It was founded by the Phoenicians in 800 as a trading colony. You can visit cemeteries and saltworks from this period. In Manaba Sexi Firman, the Romans left behind an aqueduct and some baths on the outskirts of the city and in the Cueva de Siete Palacios. Under these Roman vaults, the Almunecar Archaeological Museum was established, where you can admire artifacts found in nearby ruins.

Punic fortifications
Andalucia Tour ~ Granada (Region)
The castle was probably built during the Punic period, but only remains of pottery from this culture have been found. However, what was discovered were the remains of a Roman fort. It became very important during the Nasrid period, when it was famous for its prisons and dungeons. Deposed sultans, disgraced viziers, and military leaders were imprisoned there. In 1489, the fortress was handed over to the Catholic monarchs by Caid Ibn al-Hay after its surrender. In 1808 it was bombarded by a British fleet. A highlight within the castle is the neoclassical pavilion, which is completely different from the rest of the building.

Basements in Spain during Roman rule
Andalucia Tour ~ Granada (Region)
The museum is located in the basement of a Roman building. Inside, you can see remnants of Almunecar history, such as the Puente de Noy cemetery, the Laurita cemetery, and the remains of the El Majelo saltworks. However, the most striking find from an archaeological perspective is a 16th-century Egyptian ship. 1000 B.C., carved from solid quartz. Its hieroglyphic inscription tells us that it belongs to the time of Pharaoh Apophis I.
