Corfu Island A Paradise of Crystal Clear Waters
Corfu is one of Greece’s most beautiful islands and its beaches are the true highlight. Surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea the island offers a coastline of endless variety from dramatic cliffs to calm sandy bays.
Paleokastritsa is perhaps the most famous spot where hidden coves and caves open into waters so clear that you can see the seabed beneath your feet. The combination of green hills plunging into the sea and the vivid blue shades makes it one of the most breathtaking beaches in the Mediterranean.
Other gems include Glyfada with its golden sand and lively atmosphere and Porto Timoni a double bay where you can swim between two beaches separated by a narrow strip of land. For those who prefer peace the southern beaches like Issos and Halikounas offer wide stretches of sand with shallow waters perfect for relaxing days.
Snorkeling and boat trips are some of the best ways to enjoy the transparency of the sea around Corfu. The contrast of lush vegetation olive groves and cypress trees with the crystal clear waters creates an unforgettable landscape. Corfu’s beaches are not only beautiful they are pure Mediterranean bliss.

Corfu's Iconic Twin Porto Timoni Beach
Porto Timoni Beach, located on Corfu's northwest coast, is a truly distinctive natural attraction. What makes it unique are its twin bays, which are separated by a narrow strip of land. This natural phenomenon results in two distinct beaches, each with its own character and often with slightly different water temperatures and shades of blue. The left bay, known as Limni, typically has calmer, warmer waters, while the right bay, named Porto Timoni, tends to be deeper and cooler.
Accessing Porto Timoni usually involves a downhill walk from the nearby village of Afionas. The path can be steep and rocky in places, requiring comfortable footwear, but the journey offers stunning panoramic views of the double bay from various points along the descent.
The beaches themselves are untouched by commercial development; there are no sunbeds, umbrellas, or tavernas. This absence of facilities contributes to their wild and serene atmosphere, making them ideal for those seeking a pure connection with nature.

Warm colors really can change your mood.
I learned about Corfu from the British TV series The Durrells in Corfu, adapted from The Corfu Trilogy. Produced by the BBC, the show is now in its fourth season, and each episode exudes family warmth and showcases the natural beauty of Corfu, making it a truly desirable destination. I've rewatched the first three seasons two or three times each—it's just that beautiful. So, I decided to visit the island and check out the filming locations.
Calling the beaches here "dreamy" is no exaggeration! The cover of my travelogue is an untouched photo of Porto Timoni beach.
We ate at many restaurants on the island, but the only one I recommend is the hilltop restaurant on the way to Porto Timoni! The location is absolutely fantastic, and it's not expensive either. Here's a photo taken from the restaurant.
