Introduction
Some information may have been translated by Google Translate
Sri Lanka has a rich elephant population, some of which live in national parks and reserves. Interacting with these gentle giant mammals is an unforgettable experience.
At certain times of the day, you can see the elephants walking to the river to start their happy bathing time. At this time, you can watch this spectacular and healing scene from the side, watching them play with water spraying with their trunks, splashing crystal water. You can also feed fruits to the elephants with your own hands under the guidance of the staff, and feel their long trunks gently sweeping away the food. In the elephants' living area, observe them strolling leisurely or resting comfortably, and gain a deeper understanding of their living habits. When interacting with elephants, please follow the rules, respect these lovely creatures, and harvest a warm and beautiful memory.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage ศูนย์ช่วยช้างถูกทิ้ง🐘

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a place to help and care for orphaned elephants, injured elephants, or abandoned elephants. There are more than 80 elephants throughout Sri Lanka. The highlight is to come and see elephants bathing in the Maha Oya River, which people like to take pictures of. The entrance fee here is 15 USD for adults and 7.5 USD for children. 🐘 Before going to see the baby elephants bathing, we stopped by the first zone. We will find the Fruit Feeding Place, which is open from 9:15 AM to 1:45 PM. It looks like a wooden house where we can go up and feed the baby elephants fruit. They sell baskets for 500 LKR (57 baht). They are very smart. When it is almost 10 AM, they will take all the elephants to bathe in the river. Taking the elephants to bathe in the river is the highlight of Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. There are only 2 rounds a day: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. They will let the elephants walk freely. Some of them walked to play in the mud and soil until they were dirty, looking like children. It can be considered that getting to see them up close is another kind of experience. For those who want to go down and take close-up photos, want to bathe the baby elephants , there will be an additional fee. For those who want to do this activity, it is recommended to buy a ticket from the beginning, otherwise you have to walk back again. It will cost 885 LKR (100 baht) per person. There will be an officer who will take us down to play in the water with the baby elephants up close and take pictures. For those who want to do this activity, it is recommended to wait at the river between 10.15-11.45 a.m. and 2.15-3.45 p.m. only. #SriLankaReview #SriLankaTravel #TravelEco #SriLanka

Encountering Elephants in Sri Lanka

Encountering Elephants in Sri Lanka

There are two elephant orphanages in the world! One is in Kenya 🇰🇪, and the other is right here in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰. To make sure you don’t miss seeing elephants on Safari 🐘, you can come specially to visit the elephant orphanage 👀. How are these rescued elephants doing? The elephant orphanage has two areas. At the entrance is the ticketing area where you can see the elephants in captivity. On the other side of the main road, walk past the souvenir shops all the way to the end, and you’ll find the place where the elephants take their baths 🛁! Elephant bathing happens at specific times 🤩 and is given priority! The elephants play in the water while several workers give them vigorous massages 💆. The elephants also wrap their trunks around each other, like humans shaking hands 🤝. There are a few restaurants nearby where you can dine while watching the elephants bathe. Since food in Sri Lanka is generally not very good, the scenic restaurants are our top choice.

Wild Wonders Awaits🦓

#A Simple Slice of Nature at Pinnawala Zoo 🌦️🌳🦓 Immerse yourself in the lush greenery and wildlife wonders of Pinnawala Zoo, an ideal spot on a cloudy, rainy day to experience the raw beauty of Sri Lanka. The rain adds a misty magic to the trees and rivers, perfect for those who love nature’s close-up drama! 🦢 Must-Do Experiences: Stroll the winding pathways as you watch flamingos wade through tranquil ponds and spot zebras and horses grazing under the canopy. Take your time with the nature-themed enclosures—each feels like stepping into an outdoor vision. 📸 Top Photo Spots: Snap dreamy shots near water features when the clouds roll in—rain adds atmosphere to reflections on lakes and ponds. The flower beds burst with color, making vivid close-ups of local blooms. Catch candid animal moments under the cover of lush trees for that true “in-the-wild” vibe. 🕘 Practical Tips: Address: 79WP+JQ4, B199, Rambukkana, Sri Lanka Opening Hours: 08:30–17:30 (Open year-round) Bring a lightweight raincoat or poncho—umbrellas aren’t the best with a breeze and hands-free is key for photos. Wear shoes that handle mucky paths. Plan to arrive earlier to catch animals active after morning showers. ⚠️ Precautions: The paths can get slippery during rain, especially near the riverbanks—watch your step! Some animal areas may have limited access if storms get heavy, so check at the entrance for daily updates. #Pinnawala #SriLanka #NatureLovers #ZooDay #RainyAdventure

## A Green Poem Spanning Time and Space: A 10-Day Slow Travelogue in Sri Lanka The Kandy Lake in the early morning is shrouded in milky white mist, and the whispers of Sinhala and the bells of the Temple of the Tooth reverberate in the mountains. This island, known as the "Teardrop of the Indian Ocean," weaves an epic poem of nature and humanity with its green tea gardens, ochre rock cities, and azure coastlines. ### I. A Symphony of Nature and Humanity The sunrise at Sigiriya Rock is a shocking dialogue across time and space. This 200-meter-high giant rock was once a palace in the sky in the 5th century. When climbing, your fingertips touch the weathered sandstone for thousands of years, as if you can hear the aftersound of the ancient Sinhalese dynasty. In the morning light, the remaining Apsara frescoes on the rock wall shimmer, and the folds of the skirt hide the password of the lost civilization. Looking out from the top, the jungle extends to the sky like green waves, only monkeys jump between the broken walls, injecting vitality into the silence. In the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, the flow of time becomes gentle. At noon, the elephants walk towards the river with steady steps, and the baby elephants play with water with their long noses, and the splashing water droplets refract rainbows. The elephants here are no longer burdened with labor, and their freedom interprets the Sri Lankan people's awe of nature. What is even more amazing is the elephant dung paper workshop, which turns waste into exquisite notebooks, and even the air is filled with the fragrance of grass and wood fibers. ### II. Echoes from the Depths of History The Galle Fort at dusk is a living specimen of colonial history. The Dutch-style white lighthouse and the ruins of the Portuguese fortress converse in the sunset, and Muslim headscarves and sari skirts pass over the cobblestone streets. Local teenagers fly kites on the city walls, and the kite strings connect the 16th-century turrets with the 21st-century cafes. The colonial scars are finally smoothed by the sea breeze into a cultural sedimentary rock. The night at the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy is a flowing theater of faith. During the Esala Perahera procession, gold- and silver-clad elephants carry the sacred object box slowly forward, and the dancers' swirling skirts are like peacock screens in the sound of drums and music. Believers walk barefoot with lotus flowers in their hands, and the faces illuminated by candlelight overlap with the outlines of pilgrims in the murals thousands of years ago. The river of faith has never dried up. ### III. The Wild Poetry of Life The dawn of Yala National Park belongs to the wild heartbeat. The jeep crushed the dew-soaked red soil, and the Ceylon leopard that flashed in the morning mist was like a golden lightning bolt. Buffaloes move slowly in the swamp, with egrets perched on their backs, forming a delicate ecological balance. When the car travels to the coastline, the waves of the Indian Ocean suddenly crash into view, and the elephants leave deep footprints on the beach, which are smoothed by the tide, as if nature is writing sand paintings. The afternoon on the sea train is full of magical realism. The carriage door is always open, the salty sea breeze blows up a corner of the sari, and the locals hand over the sweetness of golden coconuts and spicy curry horns. When the rails and the coastline are almost overlapping, the waves can almost splash on the car windows, and the dream of Spirited Away comes true here. Children chase the train and run, and the laughter is sent by the sea breeze to the tea gardens in the clouds. ### IV. Time Wrinkles in the Fragrance of Tea The tea gardens of Nuwara Eliya hide old British dreams. Victorian buildings are covered with wisteria, and the postcards in the pink post office carry greetings across time and space. At the Mackwoods Tea Factory, the tea pickers' fingertips flutter like butterflies, the newly picked tea greens are spread out on bamboo plaques, and the fermentation room is filled with the mellow fragrance of wood. Sip Ceylon black tea lightly, watch the sea of clouds pass over the mountains, and then you can understand the artistic conception of "tea color is like amber, and time is like condensed fat." At the time of parting, the gem market in Colombo is flashing slightly. The sapphire's azure blue, the moonstone's soft halo, and the cat's eye's agility are just like the multiple facets of this country—it embraces the tenacity of rebirth from the flames of war, and retains the purity of a child. Customs presses a lotus seal on the passport page, recalling what the old man in Kandy said: "Our history is written on palm leaves, and the future is hidden in the waves." What this land has taught me is to see new life in the ruins and to hear eternity in the hustle and bustle.

Because of a photo of an elephant herd bathing, I decided to fly to Sri Lanka

At the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka, I really captured a once-in-a-lifetime photo📸 The experience here is top-notch. Compared to Kenya 🇰🇪 in Africa, Sri Lanka’s elephant conservation work is more mature and super friendly to tourists! 📍Exact address to search: Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Rambukkana ⏰Opening hours: Year-round 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM (recommend spending 4 hours) 🎫Money-saving ticket tip: It’s super cost-effective to pay in rupees by card! 5310 rupees ≈ 128 RMB, saving over $20 compared to $20 USD~ 🐘Complete elephant herd show schedule: Two riverside bathing shows daily! The herd walk takes about 1 hour 🤪 Save this golden time slot: Recommended to arrive at 11:00 sharp! The first group of elephants is having a wild time in the water, the scene is so stunning it brings tears! 📸Must-shoot legendary spots: 1⃣️ Riverside bathing show: Blue sky, white clouds + elephants playing in the water, every shot is wallpaper-worthy! Especially the adorable baby elephants spraying water on each other—I stayed here shooting for 2 hours straight! 2️⃣ Shaded interaction area: Spend 500 rupees (≈11 RMB) to buy a fruit basket to feed the elephants, their clumsy and cute expressions are heart-melting! Wearing light-colored clothes is recommended for better photos~ 🏨Unexpectedly discovered a stunning pool: Hotel Elephant Park is a real gem! 25 RMB/hour for a crystal-clear pool 🌊 where you can swim while watching elephants (lunch costs about 80 RMB per person and is very filling) ⚠️Important reminder: 3:00 PM is the elephants’ return time, plan ahead~ Bring a sun hat + sunscreen, the Sri Lankan sun is very strong! (Tips: It’s recommended to wear comfortable sandals, as the riverbed has pebbles that can be uncomfortable~) Black Diamond Release

#RegisterAugustHotelTester2025 The cheapest hotel on our entire trip was a real surprise. There are two elephant orphanages in the world, one of which is in Sri Lanka. 🇱🇰 There's a hotel near the orphanage, where the elephants bathe twice a day in the stream. From the hotel's pool and balcony, you can enjoy this lovely view up close. The hotel's facilities are a bit basic and dated, but they're also very clean. You can stay for under NT$100 per person. Great value! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 A great stopover on the way from Colombo to central Taiwan. 🥰 Recommended: You can watch the elephants bathing without a ticket. There are a variety of room types, making it suitable for families. 💰 Average cost per person: NT$100-150 🗓️ Itinerary: Colombo ➡️ Elephant Orphanage ➡️ Sigiriya Rock #AffordableHotels #2025NewYearDestinations #Sri Lanka #FamilyDestinations #ElephantConservation #ElephantBayHotel
