Interesting Lodge. Well off the beaten path. Nice hiking trails and gardens that attracted hummingbirds. Feeders also attracted coati, agouti, and paca. Food was very good. Staff very willing to accommodate shifting dietary needs. Room was nice and comfortable.

We stayed several nights in this beautiful lodge during a birding photography tour. Bosque de Paz means Forest of Peace. It was our favorite lodge of the whole tour. It is in a beautiful location. The staff is personable and very helpful. The owners, Frederico and Vanessa, warmly welcomed us at dinner. The hummingbird feeders by the dining room attracts many many birds. We also enjoyed the many coatis, agoutis, and other animals we could see in the area across the river. If you like birdwatching, orchid gardens, taking pictures of wildlife and birds, going on jungle nature hikes through a cloud forest, and believe in conservation, than this is the perfect place for you!

This is a very rustic lodge. Even our room, the junior suite, was very basic. The king size bed was fine, and the bathroom was good, except for the fact that the toilet became clogged twice during our 2-night stay! There are limited options for meals, at breakfast and dinner, but the food was good. Wines by the glass were OK. The bird feeders, especially for hummingbirds, were very good. The location allowed for good day trips to nearby birding areas.

We loved our stay at Bosque de Paz - near Bajos del Toro and on a beautiful property with hiking/walking trails. Getting there does require some driving on windy mountain roads, including a gravel road directly into/and out of the lodge, but we managed with a regular small SUV (not a 4x4) without problems. The staff was very kind and welcoming, and the property felt secluded and private in a good way. The room was basic but comfortable. Meals are in a dining room with view of hummingbirds in the morning, as well as other wildlife like squirrels, other birds, an agouti, and pacas at night! It is a short drive to get to the local waterfall attractions around Bajos del Toro - one of our favorite experiences during our trip though was doing a waterfall hike on the property - with a private, stunning waterfall at the end, with no one else around! Would absolutely recommend for travelers, especially couples, looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway surrounded by nature!

Beautiful lodge in a beautiful location with excellent staff and food. My family (a total of 7 of us ranging in age from 10 to 69) stayed here for 4 nights. The weather was unusually rainy and windy for much of our stay (apparently, it is never windy and January is usually dry), but we still had a lovely stay. The trails were beautiful and plentiful and the hummingbirds, coatis, and paca that were commonly seen around the lodge were a treat. Fredrico (the owner) and his staff were absolutely wonderful. The waterfalls, blue river, and the towns of Zarcero and Sarchi were all beautiful, unique, and not too far too get to (but via crazy roads). It is only 90 minutes, but a whole world away from the airport. By staying here, you are helping to conserve the large tract of wilderness the property owns which provides a wildlife corridor between two national parks.

Dirty, dark, unsafe and insanely expensive, total waste of money and a terrible experience.

We stayed two nights at Hotel Bosque de Paz at the beginning of June with rain in the afternoons. The dining hall served excellent “home cooking” style meals and had the best coffee. We were in Costa Rica for almost a month, I swear this place really did have the best coffee. The lodge promotes the natural beauty of the forest to be the landscaping. The hummingbird feeders were great. So many hummingbirds. We saw a lot of birds and agouti at the fruit station adjacent to the dining hall. The property has undergone reforestation for the past 27 years and is now a biological reserve with a huge secondary cloud forest. Our host, Mario, led us on a guided birding tour on our first morning stay. There are well marked trails throughout the lodge grounds. We hiked a little later in the afternoon prior to the rain and again the next morning before breakfast.
