2-Star Hotels in Zagreb

What began as a suspiciously underpriced, gorgeously designed, epicentrically located property with heart and smiles for days...turned into a psychotic, abusive nightmare, like something straight out of Rosemary’s Baby. Never in all my days, in all the hundreds of properties and thousands of nights in everything from backpacker hostels to five-star suites, have I been subjected not simply to bad service (fixable) but outright and unrepentant hostility, harassment and torment by the staff. Unbelievable. As the gentleman and professional many know me to be, I in good faith detailed the infractions, called for a GM meeting, recommended simple solutions, had multiple follow-up meetings, and presumed the offending micro-tyrants would be disciplined and neutralized. They weren’t. It only got worse. And worse still. Think, stalking, door slamming, man-handling my iPad (verboten), shorting guest change when paying by cash in the bar (witnessed multiple times), having aggressive security called for eating in an otherwise public area five minutes beyond a theretofore unknown “rule,” asking me repeated and pointedly “how long I would be staying...” you get the idea. So, in the end, I cancelled two weeks of reservations (which would have been expanded to 6+) and protested with my feet. I left. A day out and I STILL feel emotionally winded, unsure of what I just witnessed. All I know is that if my behavior to a client or guest even approached this, I’d be – and should be – terminated on the spot. This was not the decision of management. But maybe it’s me. Maybe this is Croatia’s version of adventure travel. Not enough to make me fall out of love with Zagreb...but close. Interesting world.

The best thing about this hostel is the price. Staff were nice and cooperative. Location (in terms of distance to attractions) is also good as it is a few minutes walk of the main square, While the location of the hostel itself to be reached is confusing as the hostel is located inside a closed compound-like building/blocks with the only entry/exit from the compound is far in front of the reception of the hostel with no signs in the main road/street or the exterior of the compound to show the direction to the hostel! Disliked: I stayed in a 4-bed room. My room had a 2 separate beds and 1 bunk bed. My bed was the upper bunk bed and unlike the rest of the beds, I didn't have my own power outlet near to my head and I had to use the one below the level of my bed. This was annoying and I couldn't use my mobile while charging it because the power slot was far. Men toilets were OK but the showers were not! There was no single wall hanger/hook to hang your towel and clothes while taking a shower and no shelf to keep your toiletries on while showering! Only one small split AC unit in the room which was not effective in that very hot weather of July 2022!

I'm not a frequent hostel-goer, but my stay here was less than impressive despite the high praise it often receives. The 11-person dorm felt cramped, featuring creaky wooden beds placed too closely together. The bedding and air quality left much to be desired. On the plus side, the facilities were decent and relatively clean, including a bar area that seemed underutilized both by guests and outsiders. Considering the £20 per night price tag, there are plenty of other options in Zagreb that offer a better value for the same cost

The hotel arrived at 11pm and the check-in was also very smooth. The handsome guy at the front desk explained carefully Everyone’s space is very private The location is very superior, 3 minutes from the light rail line 6 All attractions can be reached on foot It is very convenient whether it is from the bus station, train station or airport The handsome guy at the front desk who had problems also provided timely help and the suggestions given were also great Worth staying

I don’t understand why this hostel has 8.7 points. 1) Internet is atrocious it doesn’t working in almost all places, specially in the rooms. 2) common areas are small and not comfortable (kitchen, tv room, dinner table). 3) front of the hostel there are bars with loud music so it isn’t possible rest well. 4) Nobody respect rules about Covid situation. The Staff wears the mask near the neck. 5) AC doesn’t work 6) A little and dirty fridge 8) the mattresses are uncomfortable. ****** the following point was the most impressive thing I have seen in a hostel ******* 9) One guy kind of manager of the hostel is very aggressive, disrespectful and not friendly. I saw him almost hit a customer (old man 70 years old, motive problem: one cigarette) and he took him out of the hostel at 01:00 am. This guy attends to the customers almost all day stoned, you don’t know if you are safe in this place. He always is threatening you If he don’t agree with your opinion. I paid two days and Him cancelled me the booking. Also, he wrote in booking.com I didn’t stay in the hostel. Additionally, My experience with this guy was scared as I saw the problem with the customer night before, Next morning he got in my room and he took me out of the hostel. He threatened me saying: I would call friends and them would take you out from here. I don’t recommend this hostel and my tip for all of you try to avoid it for your own security. I really lived very bad experience when I was in Croatia and I think this kind of hostel won’t be appear in TripAdvisor, booking.com, etc.

I had a very nice stay at this hotel. The room was clean and comfortable- so was the bed- nothing luxurious, but very good considering it´s a hostel. I did not try breakfast nor visit any common rooms as I was just there for one night. The lady at reception was very kind and cheerful and greeted me really well. (could just smell a bit of smoke up in the room coming from the balcony nextdoors, but we closed the window and everything was fine.) The hostel is well connected by tram to the centre of Zagreb, a few minutes away.

The hostel is conveniently located with train station, bus station and the city center within walking distance. Although I arrived quite late in the evening, the hosts made sure there would still be someone there to welcome me. It is spotlessly clean. I had to share the bathroom with other guests, but never had to wait when I needed the bathroom. The nights were quiet. I talked to the host about the fact that the beds were sagging in the middle and was glad to hear that the mattresses are exchanged every year, so surely the issue will be resolved soon with the upcoming mattress change. There is no kitchen to prepare a meal, but there are tea and juices, plates, cutlery, a small fridge and oil, vinegar, pepper and salt.

We only stayed two days but I wished we stayed more ! The hostel was great, the room clean, the mood really nice and most importantly the staff was extremely friendly !! I needed a computer for an emergency and the lady at the reception kindly let me use hers 🤩🤩. The breakfast is free in the morning and generous (eggs, sausages etc) and there’s a bunch of events each night in the hostel’s common room (that is big & cozy). We arrived early in the morning (6am) and even if we couldn’t access our room until 3pm, the staff let us hang out in the common room and same thing after our check out at 11 am while waiting our train at 1am… I would highly recommend this hostel ! It is close to everything (Zagreb is a small city) and has everything you need (kitchen etc) Thanks again for the stay ! Bisous from France 🇫🇷

It was all great. The location even by Uber was not so expensive, and on my way back to the airport I could took without any problem public transportation. Crew was great, location great, there's a bar two mins from there. Also CBD bar was amazing. Only kitchen could get better:)

Great surprise for us and very good value for money! Staff was super nice and helpful, took 5 mins to go through the map and recommended places to go. Room is compact but is everything you need - it looks so new and clean assuming it has just been renovated. Shower temperature was good for summer but might not be warm enough in winter if don’t turn on the heater. Very big desk if that’s useful for you. 15 mins walk from the train station and nearest shopping mall, and another 15 mins walk to reach city centre. Free parking in front of the hotel.
