Hotel Chobo Sanso

This is a family-run mountain lodge with 6 rooms built on a steep hill. We stayed in a twin room on the 4th floor facing the sea. From the balcony of the room, you can see the sea directly ahead. On the right hand side, there are the Shinkansen and conventional train tracks, and the Shinkansen trains going up and down just happened to pass each other. This view will surely be a delight for people who love trains and children. At 18:30, we went down to the dining room on the 2nd floor and dinner began. The owner's son is a French chef, so dinner was a full course French meal. The husband and wife served the son's cooking. The first dish was an assortment of appetizers. Next was clam chowder wrapped in pie. The bread was also homemade. The fish was white fish (sea bass?) and pan-fried scallops. The doneness was exquisite, and the matcha salt and tomato sauce were delicious. The meat was Sagami beef brown stew. The taste was not as heavy as it looked, and it had a refined taste. After dinner, we relaxed in the room and headed to the "view bath" at 22:00, which we had reserved for private use. Apparently, monkeys sometimes appear in the morning, but they don't appear at night (scary). To get to the hot spring building, you have to go outside the accommodation building and climb up a steep outdoor staircase, but it was a particularly windy day when we stayed there in late January, so it was freezing cold. There is a washing area in the outdoor bath, but it's impossible to wash your body there in this season. The next morning...I woke up just after 6 o'clock and looked outside, and the horizon was starting to turn orange. The sun rose around 6:30, but we were able to see the sunrise rising from the sea. It was a fulfilling "short trip to Yugawara" where we were soothed by the sunrise rising from the sea and the hot springs, and enjoyed delicious French food.
